I don't post here a whole lot, but I'm here reading the board all the time. But I decided to throw in my two cents on our QB situation.

Knowing Green's track record with QB's, there is little doubt in my mind that there will be a different QB behind center next year. The question is who? Plus I think that this is our best bet to secure our QB of the future and top RB all in a two year plan.

Hear me out on this:

1. We sign Kurt Warner to a two year deal. Why? We have the receiving corps that will make any QB salivate.
2. We draft one of the RB studs this year.
3. This leaves us with the option of either drafting a top notch QB this year or next. Preferably next season when there is the possibility of a much deeper QB class.

Kurt starts for the next two years, which gives our QB of the future either one or two years on the bench soaking everything up.

I know that Kurt is not popular around here, but I believe that he can get us to the playoffs next year before any other QB that is going to be available.

Warner cant hang on to the football. He was fired by the Rams and fired by the Giants. Martz liked Warner and was so loyal to him he stuck with him long after he should have been benched. To make Martz bench him required Warner to really stink it up. The Giants thought they would be competitive and believed that a rookie would not lead them to the playoffs. They desperately wanted Warner to start all year. Even with that Warner still lost the job through not being able to take care of the ball. He is like a PEZ dispenser. One shot and that ball comes shooting out.

I have thought the very same thing. But the question is would Warner want to, he mentioned three other teams he'd prefer to sign with. With Warner, a top draft RB, our receivers, an improved OL, and the already improved defense, this team could be shaping up well for next year.

If both Brad Johnson and Warner are been kicked out of bad teams, that actualy we've won in this season, why would they be our solution???

Because Peyton Manning isn't available.

There isn't a slam dunk option at QB out there for us. I would not be thrilled with either Johnson or Warner.

Good point. Didn't Denny have 6 quarterbacks in 7 years in Minny? or something of that nature. I don't think he likes to evaluate things based on potential. I don't think Green is interested in giving away games based on trying to get a QB expierence. All that matters is results. If the offense isn't scoring consitently, your job is in jeopardy. Hell, he even benched McCown after a 2-game winning streak because the offense still stunk.

My money is on a different starter next year. Could be a FA, draft or even Navarre, but I'd be most suprised if it's McCown.

Josh is the man.

Get used to it.

And he will be just fine, given some decent offensive strategy and play calling.

McCown is not the man. A QB has to be able to consistently deliver the ball downfield. He proves he cant do that regardless of playcalling.

People thought Randall Cunningham was washed up, then looked how he performed under Green in 98, led the highest scoring team in NFL history. Why not give Warner a shot.

Regardless of whether McCown is the man or not, the Cards need another capable starting QB. No, Shaun King is NOT a capable starting QB.

:biglaugh:

I love how you can unequivocably say that. As if you actually think anyone believes that. 'Josh is the man' indeed. Unless you mean the man who throws for 90 yards in a game and it isn't that strange. Or that fumbles three times in a game and it's pretty normal. Etc, etc.

I'm not saying McCown won't someday develop---I don't think he will, and I don't think it looks like he will, but he may anyway---but I'm not so brash as to suggest, nay state without a doubt, that he is 'The Man'. Wow. Maybe he should win more than he loses before you try to claim that, eh?

Josh is the man, and Dennis Green is an idiot.

The fact that you subscribe to these beliefs so unequivocally is a real head scratcher....

Josh will be the man. Bring in some competition. He will still be the starter.

Mark my words. (unless Green doesn't even give him a chance....which I don't see happening).

I'm not saying don't bring in a vet QB to provide some competition and essentially be a decent backup.

I'd go along with Brad Johnson as much as anyone. I think he'd fit the situation well.

I don't really care if Stout, (as always) or anyone else agrees with my opinion or not.

I don't post my opinions based on whether ANYONE agrees with them or not, I have a brain of my own.

Like I said. Time will be the proof of the pudding.

"the proof is in the pudding"

Perhaps it's a sign of our increasingly fast-paced, short-attention-span society that even our old proverbs are being shortened and clipped down from the original full sayings. Word Detective and other etymology sites pointed out that the phrase originated as "the proof of the pudding is in the eating."

It means that the true value or quality of something can only be judged when it's put to use. The meaning is often summed up as "results are what count."

These days, some people shorten the phrase to simply "proof of the pudding." Iirritating purists who argue that the shortened versions don't mean anything on their own. Let's just hope it doesn't get further reduced any time soon. "Proofpudding" just doesn't cut it. :D

Roethlisberger is now 14-0 and in a conference championship game. As great as last year's draft was, this is gonna bug me for years.

Yeah, but he did not look very good today. It was really the first crack in his armor, the Steelers are very fortunate they advanced.

See, now this is a really good post. I don't agree with the opinion that Josh will turn out to be the man, but I like the direction you think we should go as far as bringing in a Vet to challenge him.

It's far different to say you think Josh is the man, or that it's your opinion he is. When you said he IS the man, which he clearly is NOT (at least not yet), then you opened up a can of worms. This post cleared that up. Good deal

Don't get too mad about it Vince. I wanted Ben, you wanted Ben, many wanted Ben. He is a product of that system though. Pittsburgh had the 28th rated passing offense in the NFL, while they had the 2nd ranked rushing offense. Stats

Josh would have looked much better on that team. Ben is very talented. At least we did draft a good player in Fitz.

I am with you...I hope Josh tears it up next year and make all the doubters eat crow...

I expect each one of you--who hate Josh--to personally apologize to him next year when he takes us to a division title and a couple playoff wins

Hey, I could dig it, and I would love for it to happen. I just doubt very seriously it will.

The stats are deceptive; despite the 28th ranking, they were near the top in yards per attempt and efficiency rating.
