•*Assuming San Diego keeps Drew Brees and Houston picks up David Carr's option (as expected), that would leave Arizona's Josh McCown and Kurt Warner, Cincinnati's Jon Kitna and Detroit's Jeff Garcia as the best of a weak free agent group. None of those four is clearly better than Gus Frerotte, who's signed through 2006. Possible releases include Tampa Bay's Brian Griese, Oakland's Kerry Collins and New Orleans' Aaron Brooks.

This is from an East Coast paper.

john,

Griese will be let go. He has a huge salary number next year. Kerry Collins and Aaron Brooks.....I see them as gone as well. If you are McCown, what would you do? Tampa as an option is out with Simms the starter, Oakland likely to pick Vince Young if he's still available when they are on the clock. Opt for NO......if I'm McCown, I'd pass.

In my way of thinking, McCown, with another year as an understudy to Warner, will be starter material. Put a creative contract in front of him that rewards him as soon as he plays more games than Warner and I think we could get him to stay.

So you think with another year of "tutoring" he'll become more consistant?

There are several teams in need of a qb that Josh could go to:

Jets (if they don't get Leinart or Vince Young) Pennington has still not recovered from his shoulder surgery. Josh could start there.

Lions. Garcia is a free agent and Harrington is on his way out.

Miami. Ferrotte is old and nothing special

Cleveland. Don't know if they want to plan their future on Frye?

KC. Trent Green is 35 years old. No good backup.

Oakland. If they don't draft a top qb

Teams that need solid backups include: Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Denver.

I just think that teams out there are willing to pay more for Josh than the Cards.

:biglaugh:

When will we ever learn.....

History is doomed to repeat itself....Let him go

He has had numerous chances....If he is going to blossom it will be else where

If he grows a brain over the off season he might be a marginal starter in this league but even if he turns into Brett Favre, it would have never happened with this team.....

Let it go

Seriously...

all good deals for Josh, if any of those offers come through...

I would be pretty surprised to be honest...

Kitna might be worth it.

The others don't excite me.

I still think we need to draft a QB in round 1.

Please, no more washed up QB's...

Our best option is Warner with a QB on first day of draft.

If I am McCown I want to go somewhere that I have the best chance of starting. We have some other teams in need of a QB such as the Ravens. With so few available as mentioned in the article McCown may think he has a better shot as a starter with some other team. I do not think the Cards can afford to pay both him and Warner the money they can command. Hope I am wrong because even with Warner or McCown a team who wants to contend needs a backup who can come in and has some NFL experience. McCown could think that in a year or two he might be the starter for the Cards or sooner if Warner is injured but my bet is like any competitive guy he wants to start now.

I like that option if there is a QB worthy of a selection when our number is called.

Yeah as long as it's our first pick.
You won't find a QB better than Kitna in round 3....you would in round 1.

I really don't want a FA QB.

Warner is better than any of them but since he gets hurt all the time please give me a 1st round QB for the future.

Conclusion: We don't even know if we can take a Leak or not. :D

Chandler AZ.
None of those names strikes fear in me. Garcia? Collins? The others?
McCown is better than all of them.
He could start for, Miami, NYJ, and Cleveland.
Oakland will give Andrew his shot this year.
However, every team should draft a QB somewhere in their order.
I'm thinking, as a few others have mentioned, the Cards are trying to keep him. But, if it's a "KVB thing" and he wants guaranteed playing (which he should get with KW at the helm anyway) he's gone.
Too bad. Because they really do make a great one-two punch.

Chris Leak is staying one more year In Urban Legend's system. If he came out he would be a deep 2nd day pick.

Gus Frerotte ain't going anywhere. He is Miami's Kurt Warner. Miami quietly has won 8 games this year. Maybe 9. They will try to pick up a free agent QB or draft one and squeeze one more year out of Gus. Saban is happy with Gus for now. Gus had a decent year with mediocre receivers.

The only QB we'll have a shot at in the draft is Cutler.Leinart and Young,if he comes out, will both be long gone by time the Cards pick. I'm not sold on Cutler but i also really have never seen him play so i can't say one way or another.I still think we'll trade for Culpepper and ,possibly, keep Mccown as a stop gap until Culpepper is ready. The Culpepper trade just makes sense on too many fronts for it not to be considered.

First of all.

Go Sox!

I have an eye out for Charlie Whitehurst fom Clemson. Wait for the All Star games and his combine workouts. He has the ability to be a late 1st. If you saw the Clemson bowl game the other night , you saw Charlie at about 50 % of his abilty. He played the entire 2005 season with an injury and still was the best ACC qb.

Culpepper is 2 years away from playing. I look at the Vikings under Brad Johnson and compare that to Culpepper. The difference is wins. Culpepper when healthy is a huge talent. Question is whther he will ever be the runner he once was or a sitting duck, with a bum leg. He still makes some really bad throwing decisions after all these years.

Totally agree. Culpepper is going no where in 2006. Brad will be the Viking started while Duante is slowly worked back into the lineup. He will be the started for the Vikings in 2007.

I agree with jstadvl, McCown is a good QB and can start in this league but he keeps doing just enough to make me think that and just enough to make me think we need an upgrade.

If he gets his act together he will be good.
