Here in Pa. there are probably more than we realize. For example the Dad of one of the girls I coach is a Cardinal fan. I also ran across one at Costco. In such a big Steeler/Eagle area to randomly meet 2 others I think says a lot.
Actually I have a funny story about this. I was at Christmas Mass with my fiancee and her family this past December and tiny tiny Annville Pennsylvania (Small town about 15 miles west of Hershey and 75 miles west of Philly) and I am wearing my Cardinals gloves (which I had purchased 2 days earlier) becsuse of the extreme cold.
Anyway after the service, middle aged lady and mother of 4 comes up to me and says " I noticed your Gloves. Thats my favorite football team as well and I am wearing a Cardinal pin on my sweater because of them"
Made my night. Christmas miracle
As for me living here in Florida, I see very little Cardinals gear buts thats understandable because a) people are pretty apathetic about sports here in general and b) those who aren't support the Dolphins or Jets.
I had this idea to buy like 100 Cardinal shirts and give them out to the homeless out here (there are tons in Fort Lauderdale) to give them clothes they would wear and build up the brand recognition for the team among South Floridians.
But then I thought of one of them holding up a store or something and realized the team doesn't need any bad pub.
It will get there though. I know the Super Bowl did wonders for the national recognition and if we continue to contend, slowly and surely it will build.
If Matt ever makes it happen, we will undoubtedly become L.A's adopted team. That would be a nice influx of fans IMHO.
