If dave mcginnis takes a job in the NFL as a LB coach or DC for the 2004 season - do the cardinals owe him his salary for the last year of his contract?

I heard on KDUS today: hope guys like Joe greene and Kuhlman (all of the coaches we do not retain) get jobs for next season so it will lighten the financial load for the Cardinals (we would obviously rather spend it on players). It is probably at least $3 million (mcginnis is $800,000 or $900,000 of it - and there are quite a few coaches - but they are obviously make less than mcginnis)...

If these guys get jobs elswhere - do we still have to pay them? I hope they all get jobs soon....

For some reason if they get college jobs....I think they can keep the cardinals $$ for next year - just not if they have NFL coaching jobs...

I think you are right only NFL jobs count that is why ESPN money dosen't count.

I would expect that JS gets a job no question maybe with us but I kind of doubt it although I would like that.

Johnny Roland I know of somewhat personally since his son and I are friends and he might retire other than that I would say Joe G dosen't get a job right away and the rest have a good shot.

conrad: I talked to Johnny at training camp a time or two...shot the breeze about Mizzou (although he was before my time - way before)...he was a great guy. He does appear that his knees (or something) are in really bad shape...I could see him retiring - but he seems to really love the game.

I went to Mizzou with his son and roomed with him. I have a funny story about that actually. His son never played sports for reasons I won't go into but I was playing raquetball with him at Brewer field house and after he picked up the game, he had never played before, he was impossible to get the ball bye.

He wasn't very coordinated because he hadn't played before but I made shot after shot that was normally just a kill shot and he always got to it.

So after we got done I challenged him to a race along one side of the gym. I think it would be about 40 to 50 yards couldn't say for sure my memory is bad but anyway, I was in shape and 18 and ran track in High School for points on our track team I wasn't the fastest guy but about the second fastest 100 meter guy, I was also a discuss thrower.

Anyway I was fast enough and after I said go he blew by me and beat me by at least 12 yards.

I pleaded with him to walk on to the Mizzou team as a WR heck a punt return gunner anything but he wouldn't have any of it. He had to be in the 4.3 4.4 40 range.

Later I met his dad and he is a truly nice guy and so is his son my wife and his wife are friends from high school and that is how I met her..

Johnny Roland is THE man....I talked with him a lot when I used to work the Cardinals training camp in Flagstaff back when I was in college. I love that guy to death...he's one stand up cat. He's the only guy I was sad to see leave. Not because he was a super coach, but because he really was a super person.

:(

I did not know his son was at mizzou...great story...

Brewer fieldhouse..let me see...5 years in columbia...I guess I went over there conservatively...100 times a year (seriously - I went to school year-round)...at least 2 -3 basketball games per visit...so 200 + games a year for five years...I probably played over 1,000 pickup basketball games at brewer fieldhouse. On sundays we would go to the hearnes center and play...on the big court and on the upstairs practice court...doubt you can do that anymore.

The strangest thing is...when I moved to Los Angeles..every year I would be somewhere (walking on the street, sports event (raiders, lakers or dodgers) sports bar or whatever) and I would always recognize people...and then I would realize - I played basketball against that guy in college....it was always a different guy. I have actually ran into 2 or 3 people in AZ who I recognized from Brewer...but now I am too old and quit playing a few years (and about 50 pounds ago) due to broken ankles...so the recognition days are over..

Yeah I played quite a few myself when I was there .

That thing is a fixture for sure my dorm was Wolpers hall I don't even know if that is still there but it was right next to Brewer.

I just remember the first time I was on campus looking at all the girls thinking... yes this is heaven and I'm dead and I don't care...
