It's not in Goodells contract. Being available to the media is in player and coach contracts.

But they don't have a choice, it's not like Lynch could have negotiated that out of his contract, he has no choice, if he wants to play in the NFL he has to sign a contract that mandates that.

Has any player this week said anything that really matters?

Yeah, I just don't get why this is such a problem. If he doesn't want to talk in that format, big frigging' deal. The NFL has much bigger problems than players not wanting to give interviews.

Charles Woodson is talking about it right now on Mike and Mike saying leave him alone, if he doesn't want to talk there are 50 other guys who will so why force him to. Greenie is agreeing, Golic says you can't make a rule for one guy.

I'm fans of the guys on the field, I don't particularly care what someone says. Sometimes they're funny like Portis used to be, but for the most part I'm not all that interested in the interviews because they don't say anything but cliches.

How many times can I hear a guy gave 110% and thank god for letting his team win?

If he's truly suffering from SAD or something like that I have to believe all he'd have to do is provide medical evidence of it. There is no way the NFL would want to be the bad guy in that situation.

Steve

I wouldn't think the NFL wants to be in situations where they don't punish those convicted of abuse either, and yet it happens.

I honestly think the NFL loves controversy in any form as it drives up water cooler talk and media coverage.

I used to have no problem with Lynch not doing interviews. I could care less what he has to say about the game. What bothers me now is when he did the crotch grabbing and backwards sit down in the endzone against us. Then he did the crotch grab against GB. This is where I lost any respect for the guy. My hatred was just for Carroll and Sherman. Now Lynch is put in there too because of his punk moves. Can't stand that entire team

He's an interesting guy always has been. One of the great moments in Bay area football was him after a Cal game jumping on a golf cart and driving around the field. He was such a quiet guy nobody could believe he was doing something like that.

Came from a bad neighborhood but was one of those guys who had a mom who wasn't going to let him go bad and everyone around knew he was special so even the thugs weren't going to let him get involved in gangs or drugs etc.

He's been on the edge of going wrong a few times but always seems to survive.

The kid from UW Marcus Peters that was kicked off the team for reportedly choking one of the coaches, if you google you will almost immediately find quotes from anonymous people that his relationship with Lynch was a very bad thing and will hurt him on draft day. But if you dig a bit you will find a story from Bucky Brooks where he says actually if you talk to NFL people most of them will say the opposite, Lynch has been a positive for the kid(Peters is from Oakland too), he's trying to help the kid get out so to speak and people take it the wrong way because they don't like Lynch.

That's a great story though, he's far from perfect, but he's not a thug either he's a guy who came out of a very difficult situation and made it out the other end.

I heard on the Ross Tucker NFL podcast that there's a cadre of Seattle media that go out of their way to badger Lynch and make sure that he's forced to answer questions or get fined by the NFL. Seattle isn't exactly a bastion of media excellence; you just have a handful of reporters with an axe to grind who run to the League every week.

If he wants those fat paychecks...Yea he better start talking. It's the fans that pay his salary. Imagine if every NFL player started doing this...the NFL as we know it would drop in fan base.
I don't get these players who think the money is just some magical appearance. It's the fans that pay for everything. What is so hard about answering some questions? If I was leading the NFL I'd fine him for failure to comply. They have a brand to sell..that's no different than an employee of a company that refuses to work on a project...but does everything else. Sorry, but as part of a company you do everything required or your written up or fired.
Try dong that at your job.

I don't know why the media doesn't mess with him. If all he is saying is "You know why I'm here." As him questions like (If I'm a Patriots reporter) "I hear you hate Seattle, if so just say You know why I'm here."
"I hear you are going to donate your salary for the super bowl to the KKK if so say You know why I'm here."

Out think the fool

Utter balderdash. Name one player that you're a fan of or a team of which you are a fan because they give great interviews, much less interviews at all. People forget that Fitz had to be nudged multiple times to be more available to and friendly with the press in the first half of his career.

I think Lynch is a pain in the butt.

And guys like Sherman are willing to stand up for him. Which is one reason why the Seahawks win games. They rally together when this kind of stuff goes down. Pete Carroll 101. I've no doubt he punched Sherman in the shoulder and said, "Love the way you stuck up for Lynch, there, buddy!! Fight on!"

That being said..... go Patriots. The thought of the Seahawks celebrating on the field at UoP is bringing on a migraine.

I want it to end a scoreless tie after about 9 OT's the NFL just gives up.

Can't root for either coach.

This Super Bowl is f'in drama. Who cares whether or not Lynch gives an interview. Are you all really that put off? It's just hate.

OK. The Pats deflated footballs. Just enjoy the game and let the NFL deal with it. Did it ever hurt us? If the NFL doesn't get it right, AGAIN, who f'in cares but a bunch of Patriots haters?

Ever notice how Richard Sherman talks alot and everyone hates him? Yeah?

Ever notice him talk ish or mess with Cardinals players? PP21 and him have a friendly rivalry and that's it. Oh yeah, he's good.

Remember how much everyone hated Danny Ainge until he played for the Suns. Now he's a Valley favorite.

Agreed. I could care less what these guys say. It's usually just stock answers and platitudes. And if you're someone who loves when guys say stupid crap, they're going to say it anyway.

And... It seems like a lot of people here think Lynch should talk... But get annoyed when Sherman flaps his lips. Can't have it both ways.

You asked for one...here are two
Larry Fitzgerald

Peyton Manning

There's a reason these guys are the face of the NFL and class acts.

Amazing how you and everyone else will reply to every interview done by BA, PP, CC etc...

IT IS PART OF THE GAME!

Name one memorable Larry Fitzgerald interview. I dare you. Link to it and tell me why it was memorable--because of what he says, not what he's prompted to say.

And remember that Larry Fitzgerald had to be actively encourage to talk to the media starting when Whis game to town. Fitz flirted with getting fined for avoiding the media.

Peyton Manning is the exception that proves the rule--again, though, point to an interview (not commercial) where Manning says something interesting or memorable. The one that stands out for me is the "Idiot kicker getting liquored up and running his mouth" comment during the Pro Bowl.

Do you have proof of this?? Not saying you are wrong but I certainly don't recall any of that?? Links supporting it?

It's honestly kind of a hard subject to Google, but I found a couple things:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/18/sports/football/18cardinals.html

When someone asked about his son’s reluctance to talk to reporters, Larry Sr. said: “Blame it on me. I told him as a kid, When you win, you say little, and when you lose, you say less.”

It's one of those things that Urban has casually referred to over the years.

I dont care if he talks or not, I just think the quoted statement by sherman in the OP is a joke.

But I will say, talking to reporters is different than yelling at reporters, running your mouth non stop and having statements released about every topic of everything.

Sherman's job is to run the rock and win games. Sherman does this. Sherman was not signed to do the typical cliché interviews. You win and you do not care. Seattle does not care and I doubt highly Hawk fans care one bit!

I can remember Larry avoiding the after-game interviews. When I first became a Cards fan (2007) it surprised me. He'd run off the field as soon as the game was over, dress and leave the stadium. That changed in 2008 when the Cards started their Super Bowl run. (I think it was Kurt's influence as much as the FO.)

One memorable Larry interview: When he said that when he went shopping at the mall little old ladies reached out and touched his butt.

Sherman is arrogant, so his points usually have a irritating effect, but for the most part he is right when he talks and I do believe Lynch has been a victim for not wanting to play the stupid media hype game which Sherman ironically on the opposite end enjoys a lot :)

Sherman is just one more who doesn't get it.

It's simply Lynch's version of the Miley Cyrus 'F-you if you don't get it' self promotion and it's working.

Exactly. I couldn't care less about ANY player giving interviews. I'm a fan of what happens on the field.
