Most Field Goals, Season

40 Neil Rackers, Arizona, 2005

Yet another dubious record for the Cardinals. Goes along with Martay Jenkins record for most kickoff returns in one season. :D

The 2005 and 2006 teams simply could not get the ball in the end zone. Rackers attempted a league leading 37 more FGs in 2006 but only made 28.

The Cards scored 23 TDs in 2005 (only 2 rushing) and 29 in 2006. The next three years they score 41,43 and 45!

If he leaves let us see who signs him and for how much. If he signs with a contender that will give a good indication of what other teams think of him. I just do not think he would leave to go to a non contender.

why do people say "he's leaving" as if it's his choice. We didn't franchise him and we're looking at other kickers. He's not wanted guys.

He was wanted. Just not at the price he feels he's worth. Big difference.

...but if the contract is right he could still be the kicker here and be effective.
This.

All the discussion about whether Rackers can or can't nail the clutch kick (imo, he can't); yet the bottom line seems to be not Rackers abilities, but rather his price tag.

It's simple, if Racker's is overvaluing himself then he will be replaced. On the other hand if he agrees to what the Cardinals have deemed his services (the good and the bad) to be worth he will be re-signed.

you have no evidence of this whatsoever and even if he was wanted for peanuts, I think that speaks for how much they wanted him. I don't know what you're basing the above on Shane, but you keep telling yourself that this team really wanted Rackers back and that his unreasonable contract demands while garnering zero interest from anyone else in the league is what's keeping him from coming back.

Occam's Razor folks.

An article/blog on AZCardinals website stated that they were talking about contract negotiations....

urban outright stated in his blog that the team was in negotiations with rackers. Stated that through a quote of graves. Approx a week later this came out. So obviously they are too far apart to reach a deal. Not my problem if you don't read Urbans blog.

if you believe everything the Cards say, I don't know what to tell you. Every FA they bring in or talk to is spun to suit their purposes. And you know what? Maybe you're right, maybe they wanted him back at a bargain basement price, but if that were the case, it speaks volumes as to how MUCH they wanted him.

I just think it's this easy... they see him as a guy that misses big kicks, thus he doesn't deserve big dollars... and so far everyone else in the league agrees.

And if we did offer a decent contract and Rackers didn't take it after a year where a) he was injured b) his coach lost faith in him kicking anything over 45 yards and c) he choked the biggest kick of his life in embarassing fashion then he's a flipping moron/head case that I in no way want on our field.

let me ask you this Shane. We were also in negotiations with Foote but YOU said that since we didn't sign him, we obviously really didn't want him. Same thing can't be said about negotiations with Rackers? That they really didn't want him?

I don't really diagree with any of that. I just don't simply buy that they didn't want him. They did. Why negotiate with him otherwise? Just let him walk and be done with it. No need for Graves to publicly state they are in negotiations with his agent. None whatsoever.

are you kidding me? What reason is there? They have a fan base who is completely split on this guy, as this board indicates. By doing what they've done in the press, they're pretty much satisfying EVERYONE of them. How do you not see that?

Umm the overwhelming majority on this board just want him gone. So if that is what you are basing the % of the fan base off of than it would seem to me the Cards would be better served to just say nothing and let him walk.

I think your reaching cheese. Honestly I do. The team eNter him at a cheaper rate due to his issues in the clutch. Rackers doesn't want the paycut. Marriage over. Doesn't get much simpler than that.

I'm reaching? We have a FG kicker who can't kick in the clutch, who's got no other offers and we didn't really do much to pursUe... and I'm reaching in saying we really didn't want him. OK. That makes sense.

When you offer someone a contract you KNOW they won't take, it speaks volumes as to how serious you are about wanting them Shane.

But tell yourself whatever you need to cling to the idea of how valuable Rackers was despite his ability to choke harder than a 2 dollar tijuana ***** at a donkey show. :)

All i know is as a Cards fan it is a very empty feeling to see Rackers trot out on to the field at the end of a game in a big situation. You already know what's going to happen and you're just hoping to be surprised. I had more confidence in Billy Gramatica back in the day.

I don't buy this at all. Just in this thread alone, there's 14 posters who want him gone, 14 who either want him to stay or give evidence of support for him and 3 who could go either way.

The above is a GROSS exaggeration, otherwise there wouldn't constantly be 8-12 page threads about a freaking Kicker shane.

To be honest...I could care less if Rackers stays, or goes.

I like what Ron Wolfley says about kickers and punters: "They don't deserve uniforms numbers. Just give them a "K" or a "P"."

In all seriousness, if you're gonna be 'round and want to get a beer, let me know.

How many people would be backing Rackers if the defense hadn't bailed him out of the Packer game?
