In Urban's blog, when asked if he thought Wiz has soured on Rackers, Urban merely replied:

"I think missing key kicks do not help a kicker."

This is a case of Occam's Razor folks. Sometimes thing are just what they seem.

Cheese it is obvious to me that Urban is merely playing his part as team mouthpiece and that he is softening the blow for when Rackers takes a big money deal somewhere else and the Cardinals are too cheap to match it.

Here's why Rackers is not going to be re-signed period.

Before the playoff game, Wiz took Rackers at his word that he we good to go for the game because a) he wanted to be the hero and b) he saw Nugent was starting to creep up on his shiny new contract c) he wanted to play in the playoffs.

The Cards took him at his word, cut Nugent, and then gave the job back to Neil based on this.

Then Rackers blew the chip shot that almost cost the Cardinals the game. In fact it should have. After that many (likely including Rackers) pointed to the inactivity and groin as reasons why he wasn't sharp to make the kick.

That doesn't cut it with Wiz. Trust is a must between him and the players and missing playoff winning chip shots loses guys jobs and changes legacies.

Rackers is not irreplacable. And the staff doesn't buy in anymore about the onside kicks and tackles being enough to overcome ego, choking, and self before team.

Bottom line: Expect Feely or Nugent to be kicking for us next year.

maybe so...but I feel Nugent is a spare & if the Redbirds sign him instead of Rackers it will be a mistake & we will addressing this issue again before the season ends. I could live with Feely, but Nugent please!!!

Rackers is paid like an elite kicker.

Elite kickers have to be elite or they get cut, that is if your HC is doing his job, and Whiz does, and if he cuts Rackers he will only further cement my opinion of him as an elite HC.

You cant cut someone who isnt a memeber of the team Conrad. They are still trying to negotiate a contract but not at an elite level like you stated.

Even better.

They don't have to cut him just don't pay him.

Feely will be 34 in May, and had a good season for the outdoor New York Jets in 2009, making 30 of 36 field goals (and all 32 extra points). He was 12 of 15 from 40 yards or longer.
From Urban's blog.

Does anyone know if he was good in clutch situations?

I think I asked in another thread and can't remember. :D

he went through a rocky year with the G-Men, having a couple of AWFUL games against the Seahawks and someone else. Then was up and down in the NFC Title game against the Packers, missing a Game winner with no time left but then hitting a game-winner to send the team to the Super Bowl.

since then, dude's been pretty money.

30 of 36 and 12 of 15 from 40 yards is pretty on the money? If he signs with the Cards, I'll betcha people are clamoring for his head by the time the 6th game rolls around.

If he misses a couple of game winners you betcha we will. Those numbers are respectable for Giants stadium I would think. At one point he made 24 FGs in a row from 2008 to 2009, thats darned good...he also holds the Giants career FG % record. I haven't followed him enough so I have no idea how he is in the waning moments of a game, he can't be worse than Rackers.

Not you though. If the Cards sign him you'll be talking about how he's the greatest kicker of all time. :D

83% and 80% is better in both cases then Rackers whose career average is 77%. It is an improvement on Rackers and if he can be had for less money then we gave Rackers last year id go with Feely.

Off topic but your signature picture makes me cringe every time I see it. I've separated my left-shoulder a few times and I always picture myself landing like Hightower is about to and know that my shoulder would just be gone.

Rackers!

:grabs: I may be one of the few but, I like him. He is fearless on kickoffs and a has a very strong leg. He does get a little rattled on FG's under clutch chances, but I think it is a "No Brainer" to re-sign him. Best of what's left in FA.

Rackers has never been that good and is easily replaced. He's out looking to be wined and dined and be a big shot free agent. To heck with him. Don't let the door hit you in the rear on your way out Neil.
