Folk has made one 50+ yarder not 2.

I'm talking about how the Bills called a timeout on the first make and then he made it again.

I was hoping that Gibbs had called a timeout, but of course, he had to be a classy SOB.

Oh, don't pollute this thread with facts.
what pollution? I'm still waiting for a game winning kick with the Cards behind. Nobody has seemed able to come up with one.But you're right, the guy is clutch .

I think Tim Duncan has as many game-winning kicks as Rackers, and Bill Grammatica has more. They both came much cheaper than Rackers too.

Grammatica was a joker. I wouldn't want him on my team. Perhaps Rackers spoiled us with that 2005 season and now our expectations are too high. But so far he has rarely delivered on clutch.

You said

he's at 0% when the games on the line.

The Seattle game was on the line.

I wouldn't be at all pissed to see us replace Rackers but to throw this loss on him when Warner was directly involved a 17 point swing is funny.

How many 55 yard field goals did Grammatica kick?

How much money does Rackers make? That kick against Chicago was under 50 yards.

Like Russ said, Rackers makes the big bucks because he has a strong leg. If he can't make the long, clutch kicks then why is he on the team taking up so much cap space?

if he missed, the game goes OT. To me, that's not game on the line. I compare that to golf when your partner is in for a tie and,on your putt, you have free run and make it. That's alot different than having to make it to win/tie the hole.

The last play was riding on his leg, that's why it's magnified. Sure, there was plenty of blame to spread around for this loss. But it's Rackers' play that will conclude every highlight reel.

How long was Chris Jacke's FG to put the Cards into the playoffs? He didn't have nearly the leg Rackers has. I think it was over 50 yards. That's a clutch kick.

It was 53 IIRC. But, you can't count that one by your standards, we were TIED! :D

The Bears FG was just 40 yards i believe. Its obvious he is not a big time "clutch" kicker. You never see Vinieteri missing them.

Anyway, I cant believe this subject is getting so many posts. I guess everyone is feeling like me tonight.

That's semantics because that kick DID win the game.

Its not semantics because there's less pressure on the kicker in a tie game because a miss doesn't guarantee you lose.

Folk has made one 50+ yarder not 2.

The league average for 50+ yard kicks is 45% this year.
55+ yards it goes down to 25%(thats from last year, not sure what it is this year)

Rackers has had to kick more 50+ yarders then any other kicker by a full 3 kicks. He is currently at 50%.

And that stat is skewed because a lot of coaches won't even ATTEMPT a kcik from that far because their kicker hasn't got the leg.

The argument that a minimum paid vet can do the same is like saying to put Rattay in because he can throw 2 picks for a lower salary than Warern. Silly.

You wanna blame? The 2 point conversion call, Dockett's penalty, the special team's coverage, Levi Brown allowing the sack are all just as culpable, maybe more. because had none of those things happen it is doubtful we would have put our kicker in a spot where 3/4 times you'd fail.

Rackers has been doing very well this season. He already won a game for us vs. the Seahawks. It was a 55-yarder. There are very few that can make the kick like he can and it just went wide the last second. If it was a 52-yarder it would have went it. I wouldn't call him a choker for missing it by the length of a football. He had a bad season last year sure, but he's been great so far.

NFL.com doesn't have all the data for the splits but 06, when ahead Neil made 89% 16/18, when tied or behind, he made 12/19 or 63%.

This year 0-1 ahead, 2-2 tied, 8-12 behind.

Again the data is incomplete but it sure looks like a guy who isn't as good on the kicks with the most consequences if you miss.

10-15 isn't very impressive, especially considering how much we're paying him.

Russ made mention of Jim Bakken earlier. Now that was a guy that just NEVER missed when the game was on the line. The Cardiac Cardinals of 1974 & 1975 were WINNERS because Bakken always made the kick at the end of the game, regardless of whether it was 35, 40, 45 & even 50 yds. God only knows what our season may have been last year if Rackers hadn't choked away a few wins. I know he has a great leg, but that's NOT enough. I was at the Cards / Ravens game & I just knew that Stover was not going to miss that 50 yarder, no way in hell. I was there today & felt the exact opposite. I don't care if it was a 55 yarder. Had it been 48, he still would have missed. I'll tell you what - Whisenhunt wants to win RIGHT FRIGGIN NOW - & he won't tolerate us taking games down to the wire & losing because our kicker chokes under pressure. I have a good friend of mine, who's a diehard Bengals fan. A couple of years ago, I asked him why the hell would Cincy send this guy packing? My buddy said that Rackers was unreliable with the game on the line & that NO ONE in Cincy regretted him leaving. I'm sorry, but this guy has caused me enough anguish. DUMP HIM NOW & send a message. There are hundreds of guys who can kick a football. It's time to send Neil Rackers packing.

Why do people keep mentioning how much he is getting paid. There are 16 other kickers making more then him right now. So I am not exactly sure what this has to with the discussion.

screw you Joe! ;)

I didn't realize he was 16th. I guess that means we can turn our attention to Graves, right? You get what you paid for! :)
