Palmer probably was our best player last year. Probably would have been our best this year too. But I still like the move. Palmer didn't want to be here, and he really had no future he. He didn't want to guide a bad team while it rebuilt, and he wouldn't be and good when we were rebuilt.

Just time to part ways. Glad it looks like its getting done in a professional way.

got to agree with you. I liked Palmer and wish we had the pieces to make his time here successful, but we didnt and we ended up 4-12. Hue screwed us with his "High stakes poker game". That contract was way out of hand for what we received and what we needed team wise for the rebuilding process. I wish Pryor was ready to lead the Raiders for the next 6-8 years, but I reckon the Oakland Raiders staff are better judges of where Pryor is at then anyone here at RFN. I welcome Flynn to the Raiders and I wish him much success. I also wish Reggie and Dennis best of luck being successful at filling holes on this team. May each and every one of our draft picks be spot on and may we find some late round diamonds. GO RAIDERS!!!
S&B Nation

Palmer will light it up this year and the Raiders will look like idiots... again. I hope they have another plan at QB because Matt Flynn is not the answer. I was actually joking when I said that we would be worse this year than last year but I think that might very well be true. Our Raiders might be dreadful to watch this year. The only positive I can think of is that we no longer have Greg Knapp.
Al 9000

Palmer was easily our best player last year. Nothing he does will impress those who actively dislike him, for whatever reason. Whether they're Pryor fans, disgruntled Campbell fans, or just can't get over the trade itself. If he's winning playoff games this year, according to many on these boards it won't be because of Palmer.
regret

Also some 'my team right or wrong types' blasting away at Palmer for wanting to leave.

Don't forget these are Raiders fans, so if they are saying nice things about him, they have to be true.

It's not easy being a Raiders fan right now when you can look across the Bay and see what is happening there-new stadium, playoff team and more.

meanwhile, my roommate who's a Raider fan will be laughing in my face till kingdom come. he hated Palmer, and after watching some games with him, I didn't blame him. he's got some upside, but the guy had so many bonehead plays in the clutch, while padding his stats in garbage time that I'm not nearly as over the moon as most of you.

that being said, he's better then anyone else on the roster.. i just think we're gonna see a lot of close, but soul crushing losses next year, as opposed to the just flat out boring ugly losses we saw this year.

Yeah, watching him pretty closely over the last couple years, he'll look brilliant, then make the dumbest mistakes at the most inopportune times.

Still, at least he gives us a glimmer of hope. I just wish if this were the route we were taking that we took a different approach to FA, as opposed to going into re-build mode.

Soul crushing losses = competitive football

I would be thrilled.

Soul Crushing losses beat games that are over by halftime, every time.

Sounds like Jake Plummer!!! :bang:

Ha, true. Totally different qb's, but same MO with awful turnovers at the worst times.

Regardless, Plummer provided plenty of excitement, and the though of Stanton all year was making me unhappy. At least Palmer will make it somewhat interesting.

I just looked at some of the Raiders close losses last season and didn't see any Palmer interceptions in the 4th Q. In fact he had a 4th Q TD pass in almost every one of those losses. Including one with .44 to go vs Atlanta to tie. Actually Oakland was outscoring teams in the 4th. They just got so far behind they couldn't catch up.

So where does this choke label come from? Prior years?

Could be...or I could just be an idiot. Or both. I guess that's why it's best to check this stuff.

in the atlanta game, he threw a pick six late in the fourth Q that necessitated that last second drive.

you pointed out that they outscored teams a lot in the 4th Q, but the problem is he was playing like crap early in games and that's where he was piling up garbage time stats which I referred to earlier.

I couldn't get past the fact that you willingly live with a Raiders fan. You must sleep with one eye open.

I saw the same things you did although his INT rate was much lower then some much more highly thought of guys including Kaep and Wilson I believe IIRC. Likely trying to Make Success Happen with little to work with?

I keep thinking back ot Carsons career and he was at his best (pre injury) but when he had competent wideouts like Housh and Ocho (at the time)

Maybe a vertical passing attack with Fitz, Floyd, and Roberts will be the elixir he needs? Also maybe 40% of those INTs are instrad catches by Fitzy then say Denarious Moore and Heyward-Bey?

Wishful thinking to a degree but one of the main reasons I am excited about Arians is because of his (hopefully) better handling of Quarterbacks. Im alreadyon baord with his philosophy on "one guy" going into TC as I do think that makes a big difference with a Quarterback and that position in particular.

I looked at that wrong. My fault. Have to be careful looking at that stuff while I'm working.

But that's not a heartbreaking pick. Palmer made the throw on 3rd and 11 to keep the tying drive going. But I also didn't see where he had a lot of turnovers all season long that put his team in a hole either. Only 2 games with more than 1 interception.

Uh Oh Double Deuce is gone.

Palmer sucks. He'll never come here. Forget anything positive I ever said about him. He needs to retire.

I watched Palmer a lot this season too (fantasy football interests), and it's right that he piled up all of his stats in garbage time... I'm not excited for him to come here. I'd actually rather give Stanton a shot. As for Stanton, I feel bad for the guy. He thought he was going to have a legit shot to compete for the job. And with Palmer at $8 million, that ain't happening.

Doesn't mean that. Hell Whiz had 12 million reasons not to bench Kolb but Skelton was still the opening day starter!

Why would you feel bad for Stanton? He signed for backup money because he's a backup level QB. Plus, he's getting paid milions and standing on the sideline.

Wanting to start him over Palmer is just wanting the Cards to lose.
