Reports surfaced in March that Los Angeles Rams starting right tackle had offseason shoulder surgery to clean up lingering affects of the 2024 season. Head coach Sean McVay said the procedures would be beneficial for him but wouldn't go into details about how it would impact his ability to practice ahead of the season.
Now, we have Havenstein's words on the subject.
The veteran recently confirmed the work done on his shoulders and added that while he will be limited during the team's organized team activities, which began on Monday, he expects to be ready for training camp later this summer.
Havenstein missed the Rams' final two games of the 2024 regular season after injuring his shoulder in practice before Week 17. However, he returned for the playoffs and started both games.
Havenstein has been a mainstay on the Rams offensive line since he was taken in the second round in 2015. He's started all 141 of the games he has been active for during his 10 years in the league.
This is a critical season for Havenstein, however. He enters the final year of his contract and will turn 33 in May. While Havenstein should start again this year, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Rams take a tackle early in the 2025 NFL Draft that can play on the right side and eventually takeover for Havenstein if he gets injured again.
The shoulder clean-up is just further proof of his fragility and the Rams need a healthy and available offensive line throughout the year if they want to compete for a Super Bowl this year.

RT Rob Havenstein confirmed he got both shoulders cleaned out this offseason but that nothing required an actual repair. He’ll be limited in OTAs but expects to be OK for training camp.
