And the other one I've mentioned before, think it was a Monday night game, they kick off to Metcalf(Terry not Eric) and he takes it all the way back for a score. But there's a penalty flag, so they line up and kick it again and Terry returns THAT one for a TD too. I know it happened I watched it with my own eyes but I've never been able to find any source to confirm that I didn't imagine it?

I even read something in a paper once that says it's never happened in an NFL game(Player returns consecutive KO's for TD's due to first one called back by penalty) . I know I saw it maybe it was in a preseason game?
I seem to have the same recollection, thought it was consecutive TD's.

Could it be that on one of the run-backs Metcalf didn't quite make it all the way to the end zone but only close???

Yep I was blazing along the Delta(25mph is blazing in my boat) and off
went the hat. Looked back, thought that thing is ancient, dirty as hell, and
now soaking wet, so I just let it go and bought a new one later.
Somewhere along the coast of Mexico there is a kid sportin' a battered, filthy, smells of the sea, Cardinals cap! :koolaid:

That's the one I was going to mention. God that sucked.

Sitting at SDS vs. the Giants in '98, when it was sleeting and cold as all hell...they were serving hot chocolate in the stadium...HOT CHOCOLATE!!

I remember that game. The weather was rediculous.

2003 - MY TWO BIG BETS: With the Niners coming up and a 15 point spreak, I convinced my roomate who knew NOTHING about football to drive out to Vegas with me late on Satty night. I was putting my last unemployment check and every dime I had in my name against the Cards and I convinced him to put 400 against us as well. Just before kickoff, we went to the car to do something illegal and by the time we got back to the sportsbook, with 5 minutes left in the first, the Cards were already down 21-0, en route to a glorious 50-14 shellacking.

The next road game against Seattle, I convinced my OTHER roomate to drive out to Vegas and I let my earlier winnings ride, betting against us, with a 15 point spread. Immediately, the Hawks went up 21-0 in the first and it looked like happy days, but then Hasselcrap got injured, Holmgren went ULTRA-conservative and we actually pulled within 28-10 and we were DRIVING at the end of the game. We got down to around the 15 yard line but ended up getting cuaght in bounds with fifteen seconds left and the clock was gonna bleed out and my roomate and I let out HUGE sighs of relief and victory, BUT then a fan ran ont he field and that stopped the clock, giving the Cards ONE MORE meaningless play just to screw me. Thankfully, that didn't happen and I won again.

also, the greatest moment in Cardinals history came in my brother's house (not Ouchie) while watching the Dallas playoff game. My best friend and his father who we went to games with religiously since 1988 brought over a Cardinals Cake and when the score was 20-0 and we were sure the win was in the cards, everyone started yelling "Get the cake! Get the cake!" I immediately ran into the kitchen, grabbed the cake and just as I ran back into the room, the Cowboys immediately scoredand every one turned, SCREAMING: "PUT THE CAKE BACK! PUT THE CAKE BACK!!!" I literally moved in "rewind" mode, walking backwards to make sure I erased the moment of premature celebration for fear it would jinx us. We won the game and I slammed my face in the cake and then jumped in my brother's unheated pool in the middle of January.

Last year in Sun Devil Stadium. We scored a touchdown (can't even remember who we were playing) and half the flag-boys ran on the field and the other half started doing running cart-wheels and back-flips.

One flag-boy was back-flippin' like crazy, moving from right to left on your computer screen. The Zebra that works and makes calls from the defensive LB area was standing there looking down at something in his hand; probably considering what other bad call he could make to break our back, when our back-flippin' flag-boy back-flipped his foot right into the Zebra's head.

The Zebra folded-up like a wet tortillia and the NEZ crowd howled with glee.

The best part of being a Cardinal fan that season was coming on on Mondays and seeing your hysterical posts about how all we needed to get aboard the gravy train and bet the house against the Cards on the road. Mac lead the Cards to some 0-35 road record during his tenure here. And there were people on this board still sorry to see him leave.

Mark Arneson sacking Bob Griese on MNF back in '72. I was totally pumped, since I knew they would eventually be blown out, it was nice to see them do some damage to the dolphins. Even as a newb Card fan my expectations were low.

Craig Whelihan of the Chargers coverting a 4th and forever for a tying TD with about 15 seconds left in the game we needed for the wildcard berth. Of course we won it at the end of regulation, but if we hadn't this would have been a play that would have gone down as a top 3 horrific ending easily.

The Bears game at SDS in '98, with the Cards up 20-0, the bears blocked a punt in our territory, and I'm thinking "here we go again!", when Ron McKinnon grabs it in the backfield and runs for a first down.

I was 24, drunk and wearing a garbage bag I begged for from a vendor. On the verge of getting my ass kicked by 9 Giants fans in the row behind me until I stood up turned around and told them to shut the .... up or it was on, then proceeded to fall on my buddy and then onto the row in front of me. After that, they were laughing too hard to fight and I guess we called a truce. Seriously though, I hated the opposing fans at SDS, I hated getting ridiculed walking out of that place.

Watching one of the three AZ games I could before I could get Sunday ticket. Forget the year but they played the Steelers on SNF when it was still on TNT. The game went to OT and I believe PIT fumbled the kickoff and AZ won. My bro is a huge Steelers fan and I remember calling the fumble and remember I won the bet!!!!!

For me...

1. The previously mentioned Steve Bono 75 yard TD. I was at that game and watched in dismay as that play went down, it felt like it was in slow motion. The damn over-pursuit of the Buddy Ryan defense left NO ONE in the defensive backfield, and Bono (who runs about a 5.5 40) runs free for 75 yards. That hurt.

2. The McCown pass that beat the Vikes in the last game of the season. Mixed feelings, as I loved getting the win (and shutting up the annoying Vikes fan at the bar), but it cost us the #1 pick, IIRC.

3. Beating the Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs. I bet a Cowboys fan friend of mine on that game and he was tending bar while I watched the Cards win. That was the high point for me in my years rooting for the Cards.

"In my estimation, it's not unreasonable for this team to go 8-8."

--Rod Graves.

The product that this team put out on the field that season was criminal. Seriously. If Anquan Boldin hadn't turned out to be the steal of that draft, there would have been 5,000 people at SDS to end that season.

Ah! The memories. That season was horrible. That was the season I started my 21 point rule (which I have ditched ever since Leinart became the starter because I think he can come back from 21 points).

Also from that season, I love to reference the 41-6 pounding we took at Cleveland, which I think is the worst game a football an NFL team has ever produced.

As for Cardinal moments:
My all time favorite. Chuck Cecil hitting Washing TE Ron Middleton so hard that he knocked Middleton's helmet off. BUT even more impressive Middleton's helmet still had all four buttons on his helmet buttoned when he picked the helmet back off. That must have been one hard hit to bend the helmet in that way.

It was a great play and Ron Middleton called it a clean hit after he heard Cecil got fined for the hit.

There is a Burger King on the corner of Country Club & McKellips in Mesa, well the manager there was a big Cowboys fan & the sign out front would always disrespect the Cardinals (Used to get me so pissed). After we beat the Chargers to make the playoffs on the way home from the game I reworded his sign to "Cards make the playoffs yeah" Or something like that.

That was on a fg to win if I remember correctly Ct. Maybe 95 or 96. I called my boy who's also a Steelers fanatic in NM, and he was despondent.

This has been one of my favorite Cardinal stories. Helps make up for all the misery of the past 30 years.

K9, wasn't it during free agency in the spring of 2003 when the Cards were trying to decide between Jeff Blake and Kordell Stewart to replace Plummer at QB? Shaun King was the headliner for the 2004 season. :bang:

How in the world did we ever luck into Leinart?

THE GOOD
Watching the Cardinals beat Philly for the national championhship in the snow on a black & white TV - Angsmann scored on 2 long runs.

Rookie receiver Charley Johnson connects with Ulmo (Sonny) Randall on 16 straight passes (over Dick Lynch) vs. the Giants.

Butthead's bankshot in OT nips the Cowboys (aka Team Felon). My only visit to the Valley to watch a Cardinal game. I didn't bother to change clothes on the red-eye home (after all, who'd see me?) only to to be awakened 7am at the Detroit layover by a bunch of auto industry ad execs who were no doubt surprised to see this homeless-looking guy snoring in a seat dressed in sweat-soaked Cardinal tee-shirt, cargo shorts and a Buddy Ryan Cardinal plantation hat. (It didn't matter - after all, we won!!!)

THE BAD
Cards tie the Giants 20 - 20 in the rain on Monday Night Football. Neil O Donaghue (not Al Del Greco - sorry) misses a gazillion chip shot FG's. Some consider this game to be the most boring ever played. (I liked to think of it as a "defensive struggle").

Cards up by one point against the Bears right before halftime. Bears are forced to punt. Billy Cross (a) fields the punt on the half-yard line, (b) trips and (c) falls back into the end zone for a safety. Cards down by 1.

"You can crown their ass, but we knew who they were. And we left them off the hook..."

THE UGLY
Back in the day, a friend of mine traded his press credentials and press box seat for my two end-zone seats in Giant Stadium. I had lockerroom privileges and was looking forward to meeting all the guys for the first time after the game. I even ran into Mr. B and introduced myself (with Mr B looking at me up and down and choosing not to say anything). Cards had built up a lead well into the 4th quarter (& I inadvertently violated "press neutrality" protocol in the press box several times by uttering "Yesss!!!" when we did something good).

I think we were up by 19 with 6 minutes to go. I was still very nervous - and for good reason. Jeff Hostetler teamed up with kicker Matt Bahr (and the building maintenance guys who manipulated the "wind tunnel" doors at the north end of the stadium) to beat us once again. I opted to skip the visit to the lockerroom choosing instead to repeatedly bang my head against the seat rest of my automobile on the way home).

That was Neil O'Donaghue. And it was a terrible game to watch as a Cardinal fan especially.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
When the Cards first moved to Phoenix (or maybe it was the 2nd year), went with my dad to see them play against the 9ers. Last second field goal, we win by one, in the end zone where the field goal was kicked.

They had these white cups for drinks - seemed like everyone threw them up in the air at the same time, cups were raining down all over the place...

The Carolina Panthers game where Pat Tillman laid two guys out going over the middle. They didn't throw to the middle of the field again all day, I think he had an interception in that game as well.

Driving 5 hours to watch the Cards play Dallas in the first round of the playoffs...listening to Cowboy radio. They were laughing the whole time. Rolling up into the stadium with my Cards gear on...being laughed at and pointed at the whole way in.

Walking out of the stadium...nobody was laughing.
