Lots of chatter out there that Gregory could fall to the bottom third of the draft -- thinking is that with ?s on him, plus plenty of other guys who might not be as talented, but are "clean" --- it wont take much to get him tumbling

interesting also that the Cards had him in for a visit -- which suggests they think he might be available

like Todd Gurley --- a top 10 talent that slides due to a big ?. This one about his pot usage and the fact that he likely begins his career in the NFL drug program --

only this is a top 10 talent at a position that is both hard to find, and the Cards biggest single hole in the defense

do you take the risk? I say no --- but its intriguing

Remember how pissed BASK was when DWeed messed up? For that reason I say it will never happen, but Keim was joking about teams still drafting Hannibal Lector just yesterday when talking about troubled players

I would bet my house we do not draft him. Oh wait with my luck I would lose and then be homeless. :D

I hope we get him. I don't know if he is worth the risk, but if BASK says so, then it's good enough for me.

The obvious problem is the gigantic red flag that is the positive drug test at the combine. If it was still in his system after he stopped smoking in December that means he was a huge pothead smoking every day.

Do people change ? Sure. But it is a huge risk.

The next problem is that he is only 235lbs at 6'5". That is a very light player to put at OLBer and not expect him to be blasted off his feet consistently. Furthermore, I don't think his frame could handle another 10 or 15 lbs.

Finally he is a raw player, his technique is not there.

Why is he a 1st round pick you ask? Because he is an amazing athlete with great natural skill.

He is a huge risk, but a good pass rusher so there is a bit of a conundrum on what to do.

In the zillion or so draft simulations I did, if he was there, it was few, if ever, that I passed on him. Pass rushers are hard to find.

I would rather have Bud Dupree, or Shane Ray, or Fowler but we will see what AZ does.

We currently have DWashout on the team and "reformed" pothead Honey Badger. Do we really roll the dice on another player who likes pot a too much?

My hope is that another team before we pick takes the risk so hopefully a good pass rusher slips to us.

This has nothing to do with the legality of pot. It only has to do with what seems like an addiction. He has used pot since the early days of high school and simply can not control himself even to the point of testing positive at the COMBINE the place he said he went to "to follow my dream". This guy is bad news and is to be avoided at all costs. Just when you come to depend on him he will let you down ala Washington.

It all depends on who is available and whether or not we can move down for more draft picks. He is only worth it IMO if guys like Gurley, Gordon, Ray, Dupree and the like are gone.

Why would they even bother bringing him in, if they wouldn't even consider drafting him?

No stone unturned more than anything. Plus they use these visits for when players become available in FA and refer back to their notes.

We are freaking drafting 24... if Gurley is there or Gregory is there, you pull the trigger, if not just trade out and draft in the second because late 1st round is like top dollar second round lol

Absolutely!!! If he slides to the 2nd which he won't, I'd take my chances...otherwise pass in the 1st. No doubt the kids addicted from what we've heard.

Consideringbthese are the same folks willing to pull the trigger on the Tyrran Mathieu that would be a risky bet....

Randy Gregory is bonafide. Talent and Idiot.

No idea which is stronger though. It's a tough turndown, and we've had Dwash and Tyrann to show both sides of the coin to the team.

Would be really interesting to have him there when we are on the clock.

Didn't know that Justin Houston also had failed a combine drug test

Yep, that's why he fell in the draft. College kids smoke pot. It shouldn't be a huge red flag. The stupidity of doing it come combine time is the red flag.

Also, didn't the NFL alter the drug policy and raise the threshold for a positive test as it relates to marijuana?

If Gregory is there, I'm taking him.

Sometimes you bring in a player to dissuade another team from moving up and grabbing your real guy. I don't believe the round 3 talk. I think it's far more likely he's gone before the Cards pick. The Cards need a rusher, but history says they'd pass on Gregory.

Yeah I think they know they got lucky with HB so far. Why push your luck?

The problem with Gregory is he's starting out his career in "The Program". So he's subject to random testing for drugs of abuse at any time, where everybody else is tested once per season between 4/20 and 8/9. That includes alcohol (for guys in the program). So at any time, a guy can show up at your door and test you for alcohol.

Okay, I just read that he's entering in Stage 1 of The Program, which if you're clean for 90 days, you're out of The Program. Which shouldn't be so hard. But if he tests positive again, then he's in for 2 years. At that point, he would be toast I think. But that makes me wonder what happened with HB? Shouldn't he be out of the program by now? Even if he entered the league in Stage 2, he should be done now. Is HB out of The Program now?
