He'll be out of the league long before he sees a second contract. He's high right now.

If he's there at 24, I would absolutely take him.

BTW - fantastic find on the scouting video Clif.

I thought it was one of the most informative draft videos I've ever seen.

Yep, that's why he fell in the draft. College kids smoke pot. It shouldn't be a huge red flag. The stupidity of doing it come combine time is the red flag.

Also, didn't the NFL alter the drug policy and raise the threshold for a positive test as it relates to marijuana?

If Gregory is there, I'm taking him.

To me it comes down to Harold or Gregory at #24, because Dupree ain't going to be there.

Harold is the the safer pick IMO as he has been very productive in his 3 years at UVA and has more of an NFL ready body and has impeccable character (like Lorenzo Mauldin has inspirational back story).

Gregory has pass rushing potential but at 235 he will be taking on larger NFL players who might neutralize him. He has the length BASK said they look for in an OLB at 6'5 but as many have alluded to he has questionable character which this regime seems to frown upon. HB was an exception IMO as Peterson vouched for him and management felt Peterson could look after him and HB hasn't let them down.

And an impactful mid 3rd Rd. pick. Big difference using a 1st Rd. pick on someone. You have a myriad of choices there. With no character issues. Only positives.

Oh, I fully agree. Harold would be my choice but I'm sure people are thinking if Gregory is there ARZ should pull the trigger. A CB would be a good pick as well but I think ARZ can still get a good one like Williams in Round 2 (DUI aside, a steal at that point) and fill 2 of the biggest needs on defense (NT can be added later).

And I have to agree, that was a phenomenal breakdown tape. Loved the way he addressed the different types of snap reads and why, with the percentage of time RG has been in tackle reads.

I would draft Gregory if I thought he was a pass rushing stud even with a pot problem because our current solution is plugging in old guys past their prime who stay on one year of two year deals... about as long a Gregory would then stick anyways but playing at a superior level :)

this morning, Wolf was on and they were talking about Gregory

gist of the talk was that he was super talented, but a giant risk. In the era where off field stuff has grown in importance, he is a tough choice.

said he knows of at least two teams that have taken him completely off their board.

this to me sounds like Gregory is off the Cards board (with Pitt being the other)

Yeah...I don't get the reasoning for not taking a guy who is argued as the best pass rusher in the draft. Von Miller has missed time. Aldon Smith. Brian Orakpo. JPP. Pretty much all of the top pass rush guys have missed time, so it would not be uncommon for him to do so as long as the production is there when is he playing. Not the perfect prospect, but those don't fall to #24.

Yeah, I was going to post that. Wolf said he is hearing multiple teams are concerned he has a serious problem and he could very easily fall all the way out of the first round. Thinking he won't be the Cards pick even if he's there.

Believe this. He is there they are running up to the podium to get him. May even trade up to late teens if they think he has special talent.

The visit and Hannibal Lecter comments are all a set up for this being the potential pick.

Im all down for the gamble. People say DWash is the bad end of the spectrum. I mean obviously last season without him sucked but he is one of the 5 best LBs in football when he was playing and i think he played almost all of the last 4 years other then suspensions.

Id take that again and again. Draft him, insulate him, and put him on a plan. Have a zero tolerence policy. A few bad mofos in your front 7 is the worst thing in the world.

There’s also plenty of talk around the league that the 235-pound Gregory simply isn’t big and strong enough to handle NFL offensive linemen and will get pushed around in the pros. Jon Gruden said on ESPN that when he watches tape of Gregory, he sees far too many plays when Gregory fails to stop the run.

“When I watch him stop the run, when I watch him for 75 plays a game, there’s too many plays I don’t like,” Gruden said. “It really bothers me when you’re taking a guy in the Top 10 or the first round who gets stuck on blocks and oftentimes gets pancaked. You’ve got to stop the run so you can rush the passer.”

Gruden said that if he were still coaching, he’d call plays designed to run right at Gregory. Gruden wouldn’t pick Gregory in the first round.
“Until he gets on tape and shows me more as a run defender, and more as a physical run defender, you can’t have this in the first round,” Gruden said.

You never know but there are several teams who aren't going to draft him anywhere near the top rounds. This he just smoked pot stuff is the real smokescreen here, there are much bigger concerns about his ability to handle the stress of the NFL.

If it was just pot, I think he would be worth it. With the other stuff, Gregory is a no.

No to Gregory. There are drug issues, both recreational and performance enhancing, mental issues, and a couple other things. He'll be a wasted draft pick for whoever takes him.

Maybe make him Mr. Irrelevant.

I don't think there's a chance he's on the Cards board in the first 2 rds...maybe 3.

It would be profoundly stupid to pass on Gregory at #24 because of a possible drug concern. It's always the known pot guys that outperform their draft status. Sometimes college kids just have too much time on their hands.
