"Alonzo Mourning, who sought a $14 million buyout from the Nets on the $17.7 mil he's owed for the final three years of his contract, is close to an agreement with the Raptors, several sources maintained. Mourning, traded to Toronto as part of the Vince Carter blockbuster, could get $9-$10 million, one source said." New York Post

An Alonzo/Mailman combo off the bench would be pretty nice even if it's just for 10 minutes a game.

Zo could become the most expensive towel boy in the NBA...

For the veteran minimum, he would be an inexpensive towel boy. :D

In the last few weeks he has lost time due to non-kidney injuries. I'm not sure how much has left and he probably can't run with the Suns. In any case, I think he's going back to Miami.

Zo could be a good mentor for Amare and the young Suns. And we could maybe lure Malone in here to teach Amare to flop Joe Mama ;)

At this point in his career I do not feel Mourning is a better player than Hunter.
Mourning could give good leadership off the bench and if we have to go to the half court game in the playoffs, he would be excellent addition. I would only sign him to the league minimum. He could stay on the injured list until he is ready to contribute

I read in the AZ Republic this morning that they released Zo. Not sure if Suns are interested, but I thought I would just give an FYI.

I could see Mourning also consider the Nuggets. They have 1.6M injury exemption that they had to use by Dec. 22. It would reunite Mourning and Martin. This may also lead to the Nuggets trading for Jason Kidd.

Kiki made a pitch to Mourning and was the first guy on the doorstep, flying down to visit Alonzo on the day he became a free agent a couple of year back. There has always been talk of the Nuggets interest in Kidd. Vince may not be enough to keep Kidd in NJ, being reunited with Martin and Mourning in Denver could be intriging for him.

Andre Miller
Skita
Voshon Leonard

for

Jason Kidd

works on realgm.com

I just hope that they consider this and then consider the Elson for Jacobsen deal after.

If I were Miami I would spend my money on Malone vs. Mourning.

I heard he is interested in pay phones. Maybe if you sold him one, he'd come to Phoenix.

Zo might help the team in some situations but I'm against acquiring him. The scenario I'm worried about is him taking Hunter's place and Steven's minutes drop to, effectively, zero. Then after some months Zo can't play so we're in worse shape because of all the development time Hunter lost. If Mourning can't beat Hunter out of his playing time there isn't much point in getting him at all - it's not likely that D'Antoni is suddenly going to start playing a conventional lineup major minutes.

Personally, I think Hunter is extremely good for his role as Amare's backup on this team already and that he will get better as the season progresses. His game meshes well enough with Amare's so the two could play together quite well if that's needed. I'd rather not have any trade or acquisition that interferred with his continuing to play. Heck, I'm not even concerned with Lampe's PT at the present - last year I thought it was dumb not to play him as much time as he could handle because he was the most promising 'big' we had and it was a lost season anyway. We seem to have gotten lucky with Hunter so bringing him along is the most important thing for this year and probably for next year as well - we're going to have to decide how much he's worth next summer so it's good to know what he can contribute.
