Peter Vecsey has stated that Portland is shopping Theo

Here is a possible mid December deal we could put together

TE - 3.7M
Jackson - 2.7M
Grant - 1.7M
Burke -.7M
= 75%

for

Ratliff - 11.6M

Portland gets expiring contracts and cap space.

And the Suns get ... a guy who can't play and makes $12 million a year FOR THE NEXT THREE SEASONS.

This is probably the worst idea I've ever seen.

And on top of that, it doesn't work under the CBA. The one thing everyone on this board can agree on is that you can't combine a TE with players and then use the 25% fudge factor.

Colorado is nothing if not persistent.

At this point, it is pointless to worry about any of the big contract guys. The Suns simply don't have any big contracts to match up. The same issue would come up with Antonio Davis. HE can actually play, but is not worth anything close to what he's getting paid.

I would love to have Ratliff but there is no way that we can put together a reasonable trade for Ratliff.

We have already established--through extended discussion and even direct questions to Larry Coon--that the TE CANNOT be combined with players to trade for player of higher salaries. The TE can be split up for lesser players, but it cannot be combined with other players or another trade exception.

So, the gist of it is that we cannot trade for Ratliff unless Shawn Marion, Nash, or Kurt Thomas is involved, and that's NOT going to happen.

In fact, for trade speculation purposes, we are not going to be able to swing any trades for ANYONE who makes more than our trade exception. Here is why:

1. The trade exception cannot be combined with players in a trade.
2. The only salaries that we have available to trade that are substantial are Shawn Marion, Steve Nash, and Kurt Thomas.
3. We are not going to trade Nash or Marion.
4. Kurt's age and contract do not make him a likely candidate for a trade, and there are few players available that would give us a more substantial inside presence than Kurt Thomas.
5. Our ENTIRE roster, outside of the 3 players mentioned (plus Amare) only makes 12 million.

Injuries have taken a toll on Ratliff.

If the Knicks release Davis, then the suns or anyone could sign him to the minimum like Grant.
He would probably go back to Chicago if they release him though, unless he would want to play for a team that has a chance to win it all like the suns, after Amare comes back.

The reason to trade for someone like Wilcox, is because he makes less than the trade exception. I am sure it would take a draft pick, and then they would have to re-sign him next year, but that would be fine with me.

Wilcox could help right now with an inside game.

Sorry about the mistake, I never got to read the final verdict from Larry Coon. If that is the case, I will permanently scratch Ratliff off my wish list because there is no way that we sacrafice Marion, Nash or Thomas.

Wilcox has great abilities, and more likely than not could start for a number of NBA teams, but his biggest flaw is his confidence. When he's cold, he tends to go on three or four game dips where he doesn't do much because of his confidence being down.
