Haley compared him to Marion Barber.. I think that's a real good upside comparison..

Kid hits the hole fast and hard.. to me that's the most important thing as a back.. his speed may not carry out over 30-40 yards.. but he hits the hole as fast and hard as any player in this draft and to me, that is what you want from your RB..

Find the hole and hit the hole hard

I'm not going to bitch about it until I see him with my own eyes.

At worst, he's Shipp's replacement. At best, he can start for us.

Until I see how he runs, hits the hole and moves at the second level I can't even guess on him. Never heard of him before.

Did anyone know of Ahmad Bradshaw at this time last year?...or had him highly rated? He's got a ring and helped the Giants earn it in a pretty big way.

The could have given up everything they've taken so far on day two and helped the team more by moving up and taking Charles or Smith. This guys is a slightly stronger than Shipp, not any faster and not likely quite as good at breaking tackles. He is a decent receiver, but might become a fullback. A little more height would make him more attractive at that position. He may be cheaper, but he doesn't make the running back group better.

You should back off him a little until you see him play.

"I likened him a little bit to (Dallas running back) Marion Barber, who had some of the same issues," Haley said, when asked about Hightower's speed. "The thing we like about Tim is he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He's been kind of overlooked at each level, and he's proven himself.

"I think that time is over-rated a bit, especially at that position. He's physical, he's hard-running, he's 'get-yards-after-contact guy.' I didn't see a big issue with the time."

Besides, running backs coach Maurice Carthon liked Hightower. "Mo guaranteed our money back," if Hightower doesn't pan out, Haley joked.

Seriously, Haley thinks that chip can carry Hightower a long way.

Mitch, I don't know his forty time, but he looked pretty fast to me.

Garth: TSN had Bradshaw rated as the #25 RB last year and projected him as an UCFA. They simply said about him: "Productive MAC back with no standout traits."

Of course this is who I thought of when I first read who we drafted:

Interesting pick. Wonder what happens to Shipp now as Hightower is your typical bowling ball short yardage back. Different type of change of pace back than most were expecting.

Mitch, after watching the video on Hightower, I'm in full agreement. This guy looks like he might be something really good for us.

He might be the best RB we have ever had in my life. Maybe.

Thanks for the post but I don't think Shipp or Arrington are losing any sleep over this pick.
I think Shipp is. Lessee...small school, one cut and go back, goal-line promise, 10 years his younger...yeah, I see Shipp looking for a team in his near future (and then finding one and having a 1200 yard season, but that's just the Cardinal fan in me talking).

If the Cards like him enough to take him when they did, okay then. I have to think he'll likely make the team.

I suggest you google him and go to the richmondspiderstv.com link an watch the highlights on Hightower. I'll tell you what, when you do, you will see why the Cardinals are enamored with him. He hits the hole super hard, has very good vision and once he gets free he's like a runaway train. Even though he's listed as a 4.5-4.6 guy, he looks a lot faster on tape.

The Cardinal who would know Hightower is Ben Patrick...they played in the same league (A-10). In fact, Hightower scored the winning TD and ran for 120 yards in a thrilling 5 OT 61-58 win over Joe Flacco and Delaware this year.

The fact that the Cardinals took him so early...5th round...speaks volumes. They are really really high on Hightower. No question about it.

Maybe I am an idiot.... Can someone give me the link to his video please??

Great. Let's take a back in the 5th we could've drafted in the 7th, after passing on pretty much the entire body of a very deep RB draft class. Sweet. Reaching for need is so cool!

Do you really think if Mike Mayock has him rated in the "Best 5 Still Available" when we picked him he would've lasted two more rounds? Mayock isn't God (I think he's wrong on McFadden), but he's now the best in the biz.

my view

I'm no scout and just a fan. Obviously, the Cards saw something in Hightower and doubt our war room makes decisions without having an idea what other teams might think of a player as well. They pulled the trigger on Hightower because they researched him and liked what they saw and felt it a risk that they might lose him if they did not move on the pick. A lot of people have brought up Willie Parker as a player not many knew about, maybe a little more people called scouts knew somthing about Hightower and the Cardinals did not want to wait on the pick. Just a thought. I will trust Whis and company on this pick ;)

chances are he is no good, along with another 25 picks in this round.

i'll give anyone Whis picks a chance though.

JJ was an A+++++++ home run hitter when we pick him dont forget.

Well then that seals it. For me at least. If he was rated as one of the best available at that point, and our scouts loved him, and his tape is reflective of his talent, then it was a damn nice decision to snatch him up there.

I'm just happy we came out of this draft with A freaking runningback.

If you can call pretty much anyone a reach in the 5th round. Name players don't always work out either, especially if they're there in the 5th round. It's usually for some reasons.

We definately didn't do any reaching in the first three rounds. That might be kind of a record for us.

I would have traded up in the 3rd to select Jamaal Charles, it would have been a great draft w/ just DRC, Campbell & Charles, I could have handled the other 3 picks as long as we ended up with those 3 in Round 1-3.
