I saw that. Despite slowing them down on offense, they obviously had a good defensive game plan for the ducks. Maybe they watched some film on the Boise oregon game last year?

I guess the claim is several Cal coaches objected to the idea but they still obviously did it. What you hear is it was a defensive assistant who said they should do it regularly and Pendergast agreed(he's their DC) but obviously Tedford is the head coach so it falls on him regardless.

I'm not sure what to think, despite the stuff they cite in that video there is no actual rule against it, that's why Cal was never penalized. I think technically they could have called delay of game on Cal but it's tough to do because if the guy really is hurt the ref would catch hell over penalizing it.

I think it should be against the rules but isn't entirely because of my last point, too tough to prove someone is faking. I don't like it but it did work, Cal should have won that game.

This kinda thing falls under the "Golden Rule", IMO. How would Tedford and Pendergast feel if a team faked an injury against them? I would want to beat an opponent fairly without resorting to that kind of crap.

Faking injury may be legal, but it's definitely unethical. JMO.

I was talking about it with a friend yesterday he said the counter is that Oregon runs that hurry up to stop opposing teams from subbing in players and they have a specific "Call" so if a team tries to sub in players they can immediately snap the ball and get a penalty for too many men on the field. So some people feel Oregon is sort of asking for opponents to do what Cal did.

I don't buy it but I guess I can sort of see that side of it. Stanford did it some too, as did USC, just not as poorly acted as the kid from Cal did it.

More coming out on this, apparently there were 4 different nose tackles viewed doing this during the game. I dont have anything against Cal, but this is just classless imo. Is it illegal? No. But it is unethical and teaches these kids bad habits that cheating-and yes I believe it is cheating- is ok.

I didnt watch the game so I wont comment on who should have won, but this is kinda sorry if you ask me.

No offense to Spud St (ha) but this is not last years Oregon team. You may be able to beat them this year, but you'd have to put a 50 spot on them to do it.

I agree it's not last years oregon team. Thomas is a better thrower than Masoli. There offense has been outstanding this year. I think they can be slowed down as evidence by the cal game, and last year they scored plenty per game and Boise held them to 8 points last year and not many teams can say that.

Oregon presents and interesting matchup for opposing defenses. If auburn plays them it will have to be a score fest, because auburn has an average defense. I think Boise and TCU's defense are good enough with 4 weeks of prep time to have a good game plan.

Any of the four undefeated teams would be an interesting matchup this year.

Tedford is actually denying it, he said this stuff has always happened and the rule is simple, if an injured player knows he can't get off the field in time to avoid a penalty(because the offense is hurry up), he's taught to fall down so the refs will stop it. He claims that's what happened in this game. I don't buy it, but that's what he's saying.

I would also add I think Tedford is in a situation where that win would have been so huge for Cal and him that he probably lost his moral compass a bit and allowed it to further than it should have. Cal won't fire him, according to today's paper if they did they'd owe him 10 million, but his job is not nearly as secure as it once was and I think he probably saw beating Oregon as a way to get some mojo back.

I think it's pretty obvious they were faking it no matter what he says.
