McBride is going to demand a huge contract that probably makes him the best paid te in the league and given his performance and youth- he deserves it in my book.
If he continues to jump over people we might have to include another 2.5 million per year for that extra effort:)

If I’m Monti I’m making resigning our stars the top priority.

He failed with too many FA signings like Bilal, Justin Jones, Sean Murphy-Bunting…(Mack Wilson is amazing to his credit)

Another strong draft and it will take a ton of pressure off either way.
Imho both free agency and draft are real crap shoots if you get 50% on either you are pretty lucky and injuries are always a big factor

He can't be extended until March but it's not hard to imagine that being the case. The good news is that even if he resets the scale at the TE position (and I don't think he can or should), the cap impacts are a fraction of what a top WR or LT or Edge or corner would be.

I’d say it will probably be in the ballpark of 20 mil cap hit. To your point that’s a lot less than the premiere position top 5 contracts- but I’m hoping we also lay some money down on a legit edge rusher this off season

I don't think he's getting more than Travis Kelce, TJ Hockenson (who was a 2x Pro Bowler when he signed his extension) or George Kittle. The ceiling for TE contracts right now is a little over $17MM per year.

When we were mid the pending free agents list for us wasn't that appetizing or concerning. Today we have a lot of pending free agents who are looking forward to their final contract and the opportunity for life-changing money.

Kyzir White and Evan Brown are dudes who could be getting paid from somewhere.

He is likely to get the $20m range.
Top TEs hit like 17.5 a couple years back... guards hit 20 and WRs hit 30...no reason to think Trey won't get 5/$100m

if he stays healthy this year you pay the man
Agree. He is a complete TE and a Bona Fide star.
Kittle and Kelce are great and all...good starting points...but they are aging out. Trey is just arriving. He means every bit as much to this offense as kittle does to the niners...he has to be accounted for in every game.
The smart move is to make him feel wanted and appreciated while showing our youngsters we take care of our own.

You’re going to bust the market for a TE who has zero all pro or pro bowl nominations?

Okay. I guess.

Happens in the QB market no?
QB market is just different.

Justin Jefferson reset the WR market and all he had to do was make the Pro Bowl his first three seasons, win OPOY, and lead the league in receiving.

But Trey McBride, who has zero receiving TDs this season, should also reset the market at his position.

Just because it does happen doesn't mean it should. When the QB in GB is signing the richest contract in NFL history something is messed up. Just seems thats the way the league is headed in general. SADLY

Okay. So McBride with zero pro bowls and no receiving TDs should not be hthe highest paid TE. We agree.

I do agree 100% But if it did happen with what I've seen from Mcbride I'm not gonna cry about it.

Pro bowls and all pro nods have how much to do with what he is for this team?
Exactly ZERO.

And since when is a 12% increase after 2 years busting the market? The salary cap has increased way more than that since the last top TE signed a new deal.

They’re not going to lose him. He’s good and fun but he’s not irreplaceable. Cmon.

I beg to differ. How long has this team been looking for a really good TE? Your being pretty flippant for a VERY talented guy. Or are you negative nancy on him too?

He’s really good. But paying a really good player elite money because you drafted/acquired him is the ultimate Keim move.

The only two TEs "better" than him right now are 31 and 35. Hock is a comparable played, but he signed for 16.5 two seasons ago, and is older. I think 20 is a stretch but again, 17.5 or 18 fits the current contract market IMO.
