Sun Devils add tight end Jake Ray.

The Arizona State football program added a piece to its 2020 recruiting class on National Signing Day, landing tight end Jake Ray from national power St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Ray (6-foot-4, 240-pounders) visited Tempe last weekend. He also took a trip to UNLV in January and had originally committed to that school.

He had eight Division I offers. Among the others were Missouri, North Carolina State and Boston College.

Former Arizona State quarterback Jack Smith will return to the football team to give them more depth at the quarterback position.

When Jack Smith first played for Arizona State football in 2016, he was a wide receiver/athlete after starring as a quarterback at Phoenix Mountain Pointe High School.

But that was a season when ASU played all of its scholarship quarterbacks due to injury and even had to turn to Smith, who threw a 40-yard pass in a 37-32 loss to Washington State.

Smith left ASU after one season due to injury but now is healthy again. And with ASU's once-rich quarterback depth depleted, he is back to play that position and compete to be Jayden Daniels' backup.

The NCAA has awarded Arizona State lineman Cade Cote a sixth season of eligibility. He'll have a chance to start at center or at an interior position. At worst, he'll add depth. Cote has attended spring practice but he'll be back on the field nwhen ASU returns next week.

Another commitment for the Arizona State 2021 class, linebacker Jayden Williams.

The Arizona State football program has lured away another prospect from one of the sports hotbeds as outside linebacker Jayden Williams of South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas has committed to the Sun Devils.

Williams, a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals. He had 23 offers, including ones from notable football hotspots such as Texas and Oklahoma. He had three offers from SEC schools with the only other Pac-12 offer thus far coming from Colorado.

Arizona State gets another commitment for their 2021 class, defensive end Shawn Williams.

Arizona State picked up its fourth pledge of the 2021 class with strongside defensive end Shawn Williams of Philadelphia Imhotep Charter announcing his decision Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder is the second recruit for new defensive line coach Robert Rodriguez, who earlier landed a commitment from Michigan prep standout Caleb Banks.

I think this speaks to the current recruiting strengths this program has going right now. Even if this kid costs to go elsewhere, the fact that ASU is top 4 on his list with those other schools is a positive.

Sun Devils add JC running back Rachaad White

Junior college running back Rachaad White committed Thursday to Arizona State.

White, 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, is from Mt. San Antonio College (California), where he rushed for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019. He announced his commitment via social media.

White decommitted from UCLA before signing day in February. He also was considering Hawaii and Indiana according to 247 Sports, which rates him as a three-star prospect.

The Arizona State football program has landed its sixth commitment for the class of 2021 as Garrett Gillette of Mukwonago, Wisconsin announced on social media he plans on joining the Sun Devils.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end is a three-star prospect, ranked 62nd by position nationally and the No. 8 prospect out of his state by 247Sports.

To be honest, I don't mind most of the 3 star commitments because I feel star system is flawed. These kids of kids want to be developed unlike some of the 5 star kids who feel they can get by on their natural talent rather than coaching. Herm and his staff are a perfect fit to guide and develop these kids. Four star kids obviously are monitoring ASU but until ASU becomes a 9 - 10 win a year program we won't be seeing a lot of 5 stars/

Sun Devils get verbal commitment from three star wide receiver-tight end Kamron Beachem for their 2021 class.

The Arizona State football program continues to load up on offense with the latest verbal commitment coming from wide receiver-tight end Kamron Beachem of Oceanside, California, who announced his decision on social media this afternoon.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Beachem is the seventh known commitment for the 2021 class and the sixth prospect out of high school.
