Coveted free agent Michael Redd agreed Thursday to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks, choosing to stay with the only NBA team he's played for over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"He's going to get a max deal in Milwaukee for $90 to $96 million, depending on what the cap is, over six years," Redd's agent, Kevin Poston, told The Associated Press early Thursday afternoon. "Michael started his career in Milwaukee and hopes to end it there, too.

"It was a tough decision between the Bucks and the Cavaliers, but Michael's heart is in Milwaukee and he's excited about his future there," Poston added.

Redd, who was the top remaining free agent available, met with James and Cavs officials in Cleveland on Wednesday, one day after meeting with the Bucks.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard averaged a career-high 23 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season. He has averaged 17.7 points while making 39.4 percent of his 3-point shots since Milwaukee drafted him in second round, with the 43rd overall pick, in the 2000 NBA draft.

Poston said Redd, who turns 26 in August, is excited about playing with former Utah center Andrew Bogut, the No. 1 pick overall in last month's draft, and for the Bucks' next coach.

"Michael had Andrew have spoken at great length and are really looking forward to starting something special in Milwaukee," said Poston, an agent based in suburban Detroit. "We also know who the Bucks are focused in on to be their next coach, and Michael is very comfortable with him."

The Bucks signed Bogut to a multiyear contract last week and have been searching for a new coach since firing Terry Porter last month. ESPN.com's Andy Katz reported Thursday that the Bucks are expected to hire Warriors assistant Terry Stotts.

Will the cavs pursue jj now?

At this point I can see the cavs throwing the max at JJ. After offering it to Redd, I can't see JJ being of less value. I think they will call the Suns bluff very soon.

Looking at cap space and need, it could be argued that the Cavs have the space and a greater need for JJ.

If nothing else comes out of this, JJ will get his offer sheet and we will match it, and all of the speculation will come to an end.

Wow - the Cavs struck out on both Redd and Allen - I can see a MAX contract going JJ's way to call our bluff now. Hindsight's 20/20 - and I didn't think it was that bad NOT to extend JJ at the price he wanted last suymmer, but holy cow, it's looking like that decision is going to take a significant chunk out of Sarver's pocketbook.

I agree. The Cavs will likely offer JJ a max contract. They have nothing to lose and JJ to gain, so why wouldn't they? Anybody wanna play devil's advocate?

Of course, if they decide that Bobby Simmons or Larry Hughes might be better (and cheaper) options, they may not want to wait another month to get them signed.

If the Suns do match when the time is used up, other SGs might be gone, then they'd be really screwed.

It's all about the money, I love how all the agents say their players heart is in the town they're playing in...If the roles were reversed and Cleveland was the one with the upper hand when it came to signing I bet he would be a Cavalier right now...

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"Next on the Cavaliers' list might be Wizards guard Larry Hughes, but a Wizards source said they intend to trump any offer he gets. That leaves Kings shooting guard Cuttino Mobley and Clippers swingman Bobby Simmons next in line. Mobley was third in the NBA in 3-point shooting this year (150-of-342 for 43.9 percent) and then opted out of a $6.4 million contract for 2005-06. Is he worth more than that?" Willoughby News-Herald

For what it's worth...from Hoopshype. According to them, JJ is at least 6th in line

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]1. Allen
2. Redd
3 Hughes
4. Mobley
5. Simmons
6. JJ??

I dont think the Cavs want to tie up their free agent dollars and the only reason they made the offer to Redd is because he was unrestricted if he would have been restricted like JJ I dont think they would have offered up the money. I really dont think JJ is going to get alot of interest because they know the Suns will match any offer made and they more than likely will punish any team making the offer by waiting till the last minute to match. JJ will sign with the Suns shortly for a fair deal but less than he would get if he were an unrestricted free agent.

Good point. I thought we were going to get screwed by the Clippers last year when we signed Q to that contract... but then I realized they were the Clippers.

Exactly! Both Simmons and Hughes are unrestricted and likely to be cheaper too, not to mention the Cavs know for sure that we'd match no matter what. If our first offer to JJ was 10mil a year, it'd be reasonable to assume that we'd settle with at least 11mil per for 6, the total amount is already the same like the 13mil per year 5-year max contract from the Cavs. So, if they match they "overpay" only a little, but if they don't, they don't have the service at all. Any stupid GM would figure out the economics and know for sure that Suns would match. If so, why bother to tie up your cap for 2 more weeks or so?

Actually, if JJ's camp threats to sign an offer sheet from others, the Suns would call their bluff and say "show me that and you know we'll do". Who is in better bargaining position?

Don't panick. We aint gonna lose Joe, at most overpaying him a couple of millions.
