This is from azcardinals.com. Look at his stellar career.

"2007: With the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason, punted six times for 270 yards (45.0 yard average) and a 43.8 yard net average with a long of 51 before being released on 8/27 … claimed off waivers by Arizona on 8/28.

2006: Signed by Pittsburgh on 2/17 and was allocated to NFL Europa with the Frankfurt Galaxy where he averaged 37.8 yards per kick … was released on 9/2 during final cuts.

2005: Signed with the Steelers on 2/1 and was allocated to NFL Europe with Frankfurt where he averaged 38.9 yards per kick … attended training camp with Pittsburgh and was released on 9/3 during final cuts.

2004: Signed with Pittsburgh on 1/15 and was allocated to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe … punted 35 times for an average of 37.9 yards … was released by the Steelers on 9/3.

2003: After trying out with the Washington Redskins and New York Jets, spent the season out of football. "

They should add "2007: Released after a heartbreaking loss to San Francisco where he displayed the fact that he is a loser."

Maybe he just has trouble punting in English.

I feel bad for Rackers, and I feel really bad for his family. It sucks when anyone has to lose their job, but at this point I would take Mike Vanderjagt tomorrow. Or Tim Duncan. Or Jan Stenerud.

It is abundantly clear to me that the Cardinals will never be a playoff contender as long as Rackers is the place kicker.

Oh yeah, cut Barr too and bring back the single-bar!

Why not? Because there is nothing better on the street today.
Rackers has the second worst FG % in the NFL. He's not that good all the time and worse when it's important. We can pay a guy the league minimum for that caliber of performance.

Hey, you saw our friend Matt kick. He can hit a 32 yarder. He can hit a 49 yarder with no rush. He can hit a 32 yarder with an NFL rush 99 times out of 100.

And he's about the 200,000th best kicker on the street right now.

Sorry man...I was with you earlier but missing that kick from THAT distance is bullsh. No excuses.

I bet Jan Stenarud is still accurate from 40 yds and Danny White was a decent punter during his day. Bring'em in for a tryout Rod.

There you go. He's not even the worst kicker with a job.

Look, I'm not defending him. We need to look for someone else to kick. But not until there are more available kickers.

Donald, you're smarter than that. He can't make that kick 99% of the time.

...and, I'm not making excuses.

How nice would it be to be driving down field and get into FG range without worrying about the kicker choking? As long as Rackers is here, I'll worry until we punch it in for a TD.

Is everything
Line drives returned for 40 yards, kicks out of bounds, didn't snap the ball on the hold in OT on the first kick. Hasn't ever pinned one deep. Barr is 28 and has never made an NFL squad until this year. That should tell us everything we need to know.

Barr is horrible. Ever notice that on almost every kick the announcer says some variation of "short kick from Barr".

IMO, we can't do any worse at this point. I am OK with cutting RACKERS and Cutting Barr. They both suck.

Mike Barr should be gone. He should be cut to make a statement in the wake of yesterday's debacle, in which he played a significant part. There are punters on the street that can give the Cardinals a 40.4 average and a 32.2 net--both last in the league after 12 weeks--if that's all they want. Here's a few prospects from the 2007 class that were on NFL rosters last summer:

ERIC WILBUR, FLORIDA - F/A Houston
KYLE STRINGER, BOISE STATE - F/A Seattle
BRIAN MONROE, MIAMI - F/A San Diego
ALEX REYES, TEXAS TECH - F/A Minnesota
CHRIS JACKSON, LSU - F/A Buffalo

The Cards should also at least try out a couple of unemployed kickers to give Neil Rackers something to think about. His 65 percent completion rate is worse than all but one other full-time kicker after 11 games, and his reliability as a long-distance threat is a thing of the past (3-7 at 50+). To be fair, his 42.0 yard average attempt is the league's second-highest, behind only the Raiders' Sebastian Janikowski. But Janikowski's made 5 of his 9 attempts from over 50 (and missed only 1 of 15 from 49 or less), so his coaches' confidence in letting him continue to try the long ones makes somewhat more sense.

And for those who think the Cardinals coaches should've tried to get Rackers closer, on second down, for yesterday's final kick? An NFL kicker should be automatic from 32 yards, especially under almost ideal conditions. The top 10 kickers in the league have missed only 1 of 58 total attempts from 30-39 yards year-to-date (0.983). That's actually a higher completion rate than for the same kickers from 1-29 yards (0.952).

Rackers should have been kicking from the 27. But he should have made it from the 32.

From coach Whis today - on Urban's blog

"He reiterated faith in both kicker Neil Rackers and punter Mike Barr, saying in Rackers' case "we're not going to get into a game of musical kickers" and saying Barr is a young punter going through growing pains. But their rough day just added to a bad special teams outing -- Whisenhunt said six of the Cards' 10 penalties were on special teams."

Just like I said above. Those guys aren't going anywhere.

He also mentioned that if they find someone better than Barr, that they will keep their options open.
