Raiders | Hill's Deal Heavily Incentive Based - from www.KFFL.com
Sun, 10 Apr 2005 08:53:55 -0700

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports free agent CB Renaldo Hill (Cardinals), who is expected to join the Oakland Raiders, is set to receive a one-year, $565,000 deal that includes a $25,000 signing bonus. The deal is also heavily based on incentives, which would allow Hill to earn as much as $1.4 million.

WOW!!

Hill was a coach Mac man. Bottom line, we were losers and Green isn't going to make too many friends along the way of turning this franchise around.

I doubt it. Somebody like Hill who isnt a rock solid talent in this league. I would be willing to bet he took the most money. Maybe didnt have the length he wanted. But more money and the possability of even more with bonuses.

This does not surprise me at all. I had the feeling there was not a good relationship between Green and Hill. Green probably did not really want Hill. If we could not beat that offer then clearly Hill did not want to be a Card or Green did not want him to be a Cardinal.

Well the Cards were offering 3 yrs and $1-1.5 mil to Hill.

Hill was demanding $2-2.5 mil from the Cards.

Now Hill takes $1.4 mil from the Raiders for 1 year, and that 1.4 mil alot of incentives.

This is pretty much what MarTey did, except he signed for the vet min.

I doubt he will be able to reach the maximum value of such a contract.

Why do you doubt it? We have no clue what the incentive is. It could be 2 Ints and to play in a total of 10 games. Something very attainable.

Hill has always been a playmaker.

I think it's proburbly got incentives based around playing time that aren't going to be attainable (sp?).

Give your reasons for feeling that way. If its based on playing time they are most likely very attainable. Thus would be a reason for his decision for signing there?

I think the incentives are almost certainly attainable. That will allow the Raiders to push most of his deal onto next year's camp. It will allow Hill to make as much money this year as he would have with the Cards and, even more importantly to Hill, put him back into the free agent market next year.

Alot of contracts have incentives that inflate the maximum overall value.

Shuan Rogers deal this year has such an incentive where he has to play in a certain number of special teams plays. Except that it will be impossible for him to attain such incentives because he would have to play on kickoffs, extra points, field goals etc as well as starting a certain number of snaps at DT. Doing that would be impossible.

In regards to Hill, I don't think he will start.. Which is proburbly an example of one of the incentives involved. And if does, I think he will struggle because he won't have a pass rush to support him.

Sorry, I can't see the Raiders being dumb enough to make it possible for a nickel/dime CB to count 1.4 mil against the cap.

On the same token many contracts have very easliy attainable incentives. Like Fitzgerald last year only having to play in 4 games or so.

Like aj said an easily attainable incentive helps the Raiders sign him by making it an attractive offer and lets them push the money to the following years salary cap.

Fitzgerald also had some incentives that weren't possible. Which inflated the value of his deal. I remember how crazy it got around here when the numbers of his contract originally came out.

As I said, I can't see the Raiders being stupid enough to allow a nickel/dime DB to be able to count 1.4mil against the cap in a single year.

I guess time will tell. The detailsw ill eventually come out.

I would be willing to bet that the bonuses are very attainable. No real other reason to walk away from the stability of a 3 year deal.

Indeed. I wish the best of luck to Hill though. I was hoping he would stick around.

that's too bad - he was a good nickle back.

Come on Denny - get that Henry deal done and draft a CB with the 8th pick then go the rest of the draft taking CBs and we'll be somewhat set!

I dont think he cares about this year of the deal.

He could have had 1.5 mil here, but took the 1.4 mil in Oakland.

He wants a big payday next year.

No huge loss! Couldn't keep up w/ very many receivers... either burned deep or was taking the inopportune penalty. Nickel guy at best. We can find one of those elsewhere.

Depends what happens to Woodson and Buchanon, allegedly both are still available in trade. The only reason I haven't been posting we should trade for Buchanon is I'm not sure I want him he's too high risk he is a major playmaker but he gives up more big plays than he makes. If Solomon and Clancy could do for him what they did for Wilson last year he'd be an interesting acquisition since he's also a spectacular punt returner.

Don't really want Woodson, just convinced unless he moves to FS his best days are behind him and my understanding is the Raiders suggested that to him and he said no. Woodson was such a physical CB and the refs won't allow that anymore.

But I could clearly see a scenari where Hill plays a lot if those 2 are dealt.

I agree! He may not have been the best but he worked his butt off on the field when he was out there.

Best wishes Hill!
