Kirby Wilson was suppose to be the Steelers OC after Arians, but a serious fire accident put him out of contention.

Not exactly jumping for joy with these guys, seriously looks like he is doing a buddy thing with some of his former coaches. Hey, I do not know them and Horton for sure knows more about their potential than anyone but it does not bode well for me that his selections have had little experience at the position of hire as he has for a head coaching stint. Luv Horton but if true, I'm pulling for McCoy now.

More steelers...yeaaaaaa

Haha I knew that wouldn't take long.

Alright here are my thoughts:

First, this is just a report from Jurecki, so I don't take it as gospel, more like semi-educated speculation.

I find both of these candidates extremely underwhelming. I have a lot of respect for Kirby Wilson because of all that he's been through with the fire incident. However, this would give me zero confidence that we would see marked improvements from the offensive line, QB, and offense as a whole.

Also, both of these guys have spent the majority of their careers with the Steelers. I feel like that staff has been so picked over from us that we are (or would be) scraping the bottom of the barrel for coaching talent. If Bruce Ariens gets a head coaching job, as I expect he will, then the staff will be even more picked over.

I also struggle with the inexperience of this group. This would be a rookie HC, rookie OC, and rookie DC. I know this isn't unheard of, but that's a lot of unknowns.

All in all, I would be pretty disappointed if this was our staff next year.

I'd feel much more comfortable with leaving Horton at DC and bringing in either McCoy, Shanahan, or Gruden who all have offensive reputations, and specifically reputations for coaching QBs well. At least that would give me some hope for improvement.

I'm not worried about his choices on the defensive side of the ball as that is his forte, but I am surprised by his choice of OC. Perhaps he wasn't joking when he said he wanted to do the offense differently. I think the man wants to run the ball, and after watching Whiz here for the last 2 years who could blame him.

Mikey seemed to want answers and results at the QB position, or so he hinted. If Kirby's plan is to balance out the offense, and do it in a creative way, that's all I got right now. :D I'm a big fan of the run, and I don't have much data on this dude. It would make sense if Haley knew about this and it weighed in on his decision making. Those folks in here that often point out we don't know what's going on are often right.

If Horton is the head coach, then we need a proven offensive coordinator.

The timing of all this is peculiar, I thought Horton had his plans under wraps. I wonder if this is a "feeler" or a sample taste test for the fans to react to. It's like Mikey wants to pull the trigger on Horton, but doesn't want it to be shock city when the coaching line up is announced. This is gonna take a second for me to digest.

Those are some pretty uninspiring and CHEAP OC and DC's!

My thoughts exactly.

I admittedly don't know much about either of these guys, but I'm sick of trying to emulate the Steelers' offense. Our OTs can't hold their blocks long enough, and our QBs keep getting killed.

We need an OC that can straight up evaluate and speak QB hard core. Horton's line up hasn't tickle'd that fancy yet, I hope there is more to come.

Meh, get the talent and the offensive coaching will come in a couple years when these coaches get fired if they don't pan out. You might not get anyone better to come here with absolutely nothing to work with right now and being forced coach killer Kevin Klobs.

I like Kirby, but not as the OC for a D minded HC on a team that needs to totally rebuild an offense to complement a top ten D.

That's not remotely a good choice.

Ugh.

This is not encouraging.

'Course it is jurblechy, so it's probably wrong. 95 percent chance.

I think this leaked info doesn't go well for Horton, even if he talked Mikey into it. Keim was in on the whole meeting so that means (once again) Bob LaMonte could be releasing whatever info he wants to the media. That LaMonte dude has nothing better to do than paint pictures that pay him.

But all and all, if this is Horton's plan, he could have surrounded himself with people that were established or as hot as he is. Plus no QB guru in the mention, is that the way Drecky wants us to read it?

I'm starting to believe he (Drecky) is on the LaMonte pay roll. :p

Well if you run the ball you can leave it up to your defense. If you can run some play action, you can mix it up with some max protect disguised as run blocking, it would open us up IMO. I can see where Horton is going with this but I've never thought Kirby was the guy that can do that for us...

I would love to run the ball considering our defense, our QB, the QB draft, and our O-line. I think Larry would get 1,300 yards when done right. We got Beanie, Ryan, and Hyphen right? I think WiPo is on the loose.

Before the fire, Wilson was in line to become the Steelers OC, and was considered a bright candidate here in the 'Burgh. That's all I know about these guys.

I would not be happy if they hired horton they would take the cheap way out. UCLA doesn't even run a 3-4. I'm sick of the steelers crap.

Horton has been a good defensive coordinator. Although his unit was not dominating, it was a top 10 unit, and compared to the defensive struggles in many recent years, its safe to say he has done a good job by utilizing the talent.

Does that make him a good HC? Probably not, maybe yes. I'm not too excited about him as HC, i wish he could stay with his current position.

The best would be to fix what is not working. The offense. If Horton becomes HC, both the offense and the defense will get new playcallers and the defense may easely take some step back. Maybe more steps than the steps forward the offense will make. We may end up with even worse record next year.

Kirby Wilson was the RB coach here for the Cards under Denny Green. I don't recall anything special. We need someone that can be creative with our horrible qb situation. Not impressed with this choice.
