If that's the case then I don't want Horton as HC. I'm tired of this team being filled with Steeler throw aways.

Really..... What more could we expect? A first time coach will not be able to attract a coordinator with much experience. UNLESS you overpay.

Have we know the Bidwells to overpay for coordinators?

Don't know about the Bidwells, but, the Bidwill's were paying in excess of $1-million to Grimm. (Lol)

Haha I knew that wouldn't take long.

Alright here are my thoughts:

First, this is just a report from Jurecki, so I don't take it as gospel, more like semi-educated speculation.

I find both of these candidates extremely underwhelming. I have a lot of respect for Kirby Wilson because of all that he's been through with the fire incident. However, this would give me zero confidence that we would see marked improvements from the offensive line, QB, and offense as a whole.

Also, both of these guys have spent the majority of their careers with the Steelers. I feel like that staff has been so picked over from us that we are (or would be) scraping the bottom of the barrel for coaching talent. If Bruce Ariens gets a head coaching job, as I expect he will, then the staff will be even more picked over.

I also struggle with the inexperience of this group. This would be a rookie HC, rookie OC, and rookie DC. I know this isn't unheard of, but that's a lot of unknowns.

All in all, I would be pretty disappointed if this was our staff next year.

I'd feel much more comfortable with leaving Horton at DC and bringing in either McCoy, Shanahan, or Gruden who all have offensive reputations, and specifically reputations for coaching QBs well. At least that would give me some hope for improvement.

We obviously have a lot of guys with a lot more knowledge than me about potential coaches, GM's, etc. I watch football religiously and only a couple of coaches in my lifetime really seemed to standout from the others. I would not go so far as to recommend anyone as what do most of us really know about these guys. People who are in the business of reporting football at least can talk the coaches and players which puts them miles ahead of most of us as to might make a good fit for our team. It is fun to express our opinions but for most of us it is opinions based on not very much real knowledge. The best and only opinion that will count is named Bidwill. If he does his homework I can only assume he has made the best choice though many of us will disagree. IMHO the best coach we ever had we fired and he is in the Hall of Fame. There are leaders out there that will make you want to run through a brick wall and others that will make you run away from a brick wall. You find them in football, business, and all sorts of endeavors.

I find it interesting that Jurecki throws these names out there yet no one else, either locally or nationally, jumps on the story.

Makes one wonder.

Or maybe, it is Cardinal related and the therefore the rest of the nation does not care. It could also mean something, which some fans here seem hard to accept, maybe the rest of the league is not so hot about Horton as a head coach as we are LOL

I like Kirby, but not as the OC for a D minded HC on a team that needs to totally rebuild an offense to complement a top ten D.

That's not remotely a good choice.

Ugh.

This is not encouraging.

'Course it is jurblechy, so it's probably wrong. 95 percent chance.
I don't put much credence into that guy either. But, the thing that makes me think it may be legit is that these are two relatively unknown guys. If Jurecki wanted to make headlines, like normal, I think he would have thrown out names like Turner or Shurmur for the OC and maybe a guy like Butler for DC. Kirby and Spanos are such remote candidates, it seems like it would be hard to make that up.

These are the "experts" Horton wants to bring in? Nice. I get staffs have to start from somewhere, and that there are limited options around, but I have to laugh at this. This is why the Cardinals half-assed methodology of trying to use half measures to solve real problems rarely works. You can't be scared to wipe the slate clean. The plan was to bring in Whis, give him control, and it failed. Don't try to hold onto the wasting remnants of that plan to try and salvage something that you think is special just because, unlike most franchises, we have never experienced for. You can't be afraid to give up a little now to win in the end.

There is doing the due diligence, and there being indecisive. The plan is not complex. Hire a GM. Hire the best coach. Let that man put his staff together (or bring it in if he is a college or long time NFL coach) and get started evaluating the roster. While this is happening, the front office can start prepping the free agent field, gauging what players are available for trade, and readying for the draft. The coaches identify needs, explain what they need out of players, and we start putting this train wreck back together.

Ugh.

Kirby Wilson - Steelers RB coach

Lou Spanos - UCLA Defensive Coordinator (former Steelers quality control coach)

Per Jurecki on Fox Sports Tonight

I'll withhold my comments to get your opinions.

I think the Cards would already have hired Horton if they were going to.
