Give McCown some time. Why is it every other QB is allowed to have time for growing pains and not Josh? Josh had his first full year at QB in a new system everyone was learning also. Josh has a great arm, heart, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. Sure I've seen the games on TV,and don't think I didn't get POed a couple of times.

I think most people want to give Josh time but they want a veteran to be brought in to compete with him.And a real competition,not a Shaun King type competition.

It is funny how any post about a FA QB always has to lead back to McCown apologists bringing him up. It is like we live in an age where nobody is held responsible for their bad performances anymore. It is insanity. I am talking abouting politics, business , etc too. There is always some kind of excuse of how it is somebody elses fault or this is all going according to plan. I cant wait for the next training camp so that terrible QB can finally be sent packing and I will not have to hear about how great McCown is.

This talk of Mccown as the QB of the future reminds me of the saying: "Dont pee down my leg and tell me it is raining".

I think most people want to give Josh time but they want a veteran to be brought in to compete with him.And a real competition,not a Shaun King type competition.

I would take Gannon over B Johnson. I think he still has a little left in the tank.

I wouldn't call it being an apologist or making excuses, what I see is a young QB with only 18 starts that I believe is going to be a great QB. Why don't we let him develop over the off-season some more and give him another shot next year...it is this type of impatience that will keep the QB revolving door spinning the way it has over the past 15+ years.

I do not excuse the poor throws and bad decisions Josh made during the season, but he has showed flashes of being a very good QB and it is those flashes--I believe--are a true prelude for what is to come next season.

My friend is on the team and he truely believes in Josh and I would take his word over anybody on this message board--or even my own--as it pertains to McCown.

Come on now you can't name drop like that without actually using the name.

But its Obafemi Ayanbadejo, we have been friends since high school...I've been a Cards fan since I was a little kid, I even transfered to Santa Cruz High School in CA because the school mascot was the Cardinals...

I am sure Femi knows that Josh misses reads and Wide open recivers, and sometimes holds the ball too long...All young QB's do that, but sometimes WR's run wrong/bad routes, sometimes RB's and TE's miss a block, sometimes DE's over persue, sometimes the Head Coach cuts the wrong players...

My point is, everyone learns from their mistakes and sometimes it takes a player a time to develop. If you look at Femi's career you will see that he took some time to develop as well (undrafted FA, cut by Vikings, Played for London Monarchs, Cut by Vikings again, but signed to practice squad, the activated for final 4 games of season, then made team follwing year. He was then cut by DG during season and signed with Balt, the next year Femi beat out Sam Gash to be starting FB...) But he always showed signs as a young FB of being a very solid one in this league.

So,--I am sure--That Fem and many of his teammates see what Josh will become...Last season, Josh was still going through growing pains, but they understand his heart, grit, determination, and hard work ethic...he is a team guy with a big arm and a lot of talent.

If they have faith in him, so do I...I just hope DG does, because it is ultimately his decision.

I'm from Cupertino so I'm well aware of Santa Cruz, ex Card RB Johnny Johnson was the most famous alum, they seem have had a run of good basketball players there of late too.

Glad to hear that guys on the team believe in Josh, at times last year that didn't appear to be the case, I am fairly sure he'll be back(starter or not) and it's important the guys on the team believe in him.

1975 was the glory year for me, Warriors win NBA title behind Rick Barry, Keith Wilkes and Phil Smith, Cards make playoffs, and UCLA won the last NCAA title under Wooden. Had to wait until 95 for UCLA to win another one.

Johnny was a strange cat, kicked off San Jose State, always renegotiating his contract, then he has that mysterious back injury when he was a 49er and never played. Too bad he had real talent but you knew his career would be short he simply took too many big hits because he ran so upright.

Now off topic. If a QB has not shown something after 18 starts it is not likely he will. Lomax, the last good QB, showed he could play the first year he was named the starter over Hart. This team has not had a good QB in almost 15 years. I dont want to waste another year on a QB who has shown nothing on a consistent basis. Any NFL QB after 18 starts can at times look good. He has to consistently show that potential and not regress like he did in the last game where he had a deer in the headlights look. By the way the rest of the year he was not that good either. 18 starts and he still was not getting it. You want to risk another year of abysmal QB play. I dont think Green will risk another year. He knows he only has a few years to win or he is gone. Green benched him once and only put him back in because he had no other option other than pulling someone out of the stands to play.

Regarding Gannon or anyone else coming in as QB coach, I wonder how Denny evaluates Kruscak and his development of McCown this past year. (Without having any inside info, I'm guessing that things didn't progress as rapidly as hoped).

With this in mind, bringing in someone like Gannon to be QB Coach - while a huge reach - is intriguing. Bringing in someone else known for developing QB's is not so big a reach and equally intriguing. But like I said earlier, I'm just speculating.

Because, if Gannon is brought in it has a direct affect on McCown's possible future as starting QB, so anytime you bring up the possibility of bringing in competetion at any positon it is natural to talk about the incumbent...

Jeff, SJS has had some good players before, I meant Santa Cruz Highschool. SJS had Jay Taylor, Ken thomas(great college CB and sprinter once held the NCAA record for INT's returned for TD's and return yardage in a career). WR's Mervyn Fernandez, of course Jeff garcia at QB. Dead program now in danger of dropping football, Bill Walsh(alum) is helping try to resurrect it.

No way on Gannon. I'm tired of the McCown arguing I can't wait till the Cards sign there Vet QB and we have this cleared up. I would love to see the Cards go after Brooks or McNair!!

Green wont hitch his wagon to Mccown. Guaranteed there will be a FA in camp. Taking away Mccown's job will be easier than taking candy from a baby. When the FA is able to see and hit a WR on the fly 40 yards down the field while Mccown misses seeing open receivers and then throws underthrown jump balls. I am not confident of alot of things in theis crazy world. This however is guaranteed as far as I am concerned.

Lol Okay. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. Though I don't see Josh becoming a successful NFL starting QB, maybe he pulls a Drew Brees and comes back with a nice season. Who knows? What I DO know is that we haven't seen flashes of 'great'ness. What makes you think he'll be a 'great' QB? I mean, tangible plays you saw on the field? I'm not going to count consultation phone calls with Miss Cleo either.

I myself have seen him make many poor, awful, and sometimes idiotic mistakes that players in their THIRD SEASON, NOT their ROOKIE season, should not be making. For every decent or good play (er, how many great plays have we seen?) we've seen probably 30 or so bad ones. I'm just baffled as to what people see that lead them to believe he'll be a solid starting QB, let alone a 'great' QB.
