He was in Dallas in the very beginning of his career. Thats where I moved from. Thats how I am familiar with him. He can play. I hope he proves it to Cardinal fans. He could have been a 4 year starter at SMU had he not been drafted by the Reds organization in baseball and decided to try it for a year or two. He started at SMU as a Freshman. He has a cannon for an arm and from what I learned of him in Dallas he is of good moral character

Wow who made you an expert on qb talent? How do you know he doesn't read defenses well? I really want to know? He is better than what you had. I would give him a chance. He beat you in Washington. Kurt Warner came out of no where.

Thanks for the input, Ricky B.

I want to see Somers ask this question and repeat it until Whisenhunt answers it:

"Did you consider what might happen when you cut our projected #1 QB the week before the season began?"

Why is it OK to nail DA to the wall, but its not acceptable to ask the coach any of the tough questions?

He would likely say ML was not our projected #1 QB

Right. Just another in a long line of first round mistakes dating back to the early 90's and beyond by the Bidwills and their minions.

Steve Psarkiewicz. Kelly Stouffer. Matt Leinart.

The NFL Cardinals brought to you by Barnum & Bailey. What a circus this franchise has been.

I scout players, it's what I've done for a few years now. Albeit I am not a pro, I do it more for leisure, since my job keeps me on the road for 300 days out of the year, I gotta find something to do. I've sat in on actual game film cut from the media departments in many colleges across the nation...including Tarleton State University. Sure, his ability to read a defense may have improved some, but if he's a backup in the UFL, and not starting, and has bounced around from Dallas, to Cleveland to Jacksonville and now to Washington, and hasn't stuck on anyone's roster, it's pretty safe to assume that he's not exactly NFL starting caliber...even on our team.

Of course nobody really knows for sure until he actually gets into a game. I'm not the type to look at him bouncing around from team to team and consider him a bum.

People obviously see "something" in him. Bartel keeps getting roster spots in the NFL over the past few years while 40-50 other quarterbacks of equal stature are selling insurance or waiting at home for the phone to ring.

In truth, he came very close to starting while playing for the Browns in 08. Ken Dorsey got hurt after DA and Quinn were already on the IR. At the time, the only QB left on the roster was Bartel and there was one game left in the season. But the Browns braintrust signed Bruce Gradkowski off the street to fill in for the finale on short notice.
