Then you haven't been watching.

Please, argue how Brandon Flowers, a player who was cut by the Chiefs outright, has played better than Patrick Peterson.

Regarding Davis, did you see what Dez Bryant did last week vs the Colts? How about Odell Beckum going for 156? How about Antonio Brown going 10 catches for 133 and 2 TDs?

That is what I have been watching. Guys have stinkers some times, but I have seen Peterson shut down Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant. I haven't seen Davis shut down any top players this year if I recall correctly.

flowers is playing at a very high level.

Des Bryant is perhaps the most physically gifted WR in the NFL. He's arguably the best of the best. Just because a guy had a lot of catches in a game does not mean they were all on one particular player.

Brandon Browner was released outright and he's a more solid CB as well.

Browner is a name out of the hat? He's a fairly recent all pro CB.

Three years ago is not fairly recent.

That's not that long ago seeing as how he's still playing at a very high level.

The reason he was let go was a non football issue.

So by these standards, anyone who shuts down possibly the best of the best might be one of the best of the best at his position... yup, I agree Peterson is one of the best

He was on his way, but somewhere along the line he took a detour.

I like how some here think three seasons ago is the distant past. Especially when the guy is still playing at a high level.

This is the #1 paid CB in the National Football League that we're talking about:

It's tough to come to a conclusion that doesn't favor Sherman when watching this season's tape. The numbers themselves don't lie either. Sherman is Pro Football Focus' fourth-rated cornerback this season, while Peterson checks in 76th (out of 110). Quarterbacks have completed only 25 of 56 passes directed Sherman's way, for 347 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, good for a 48.7 quarterback rating. They're 51 of 88 for 717 yards, eight touchdowns and three picks when throwing at Peterson, who's allowed a 100.4 quarterback rating.

Cue the excuses that the Peterson has to adjust to the new rule (as opposed to everyone else in the league) and that he NEVER gets safety help and is always on an island (even though earlier in the thread, the excuse was made that half of his TDs against we're because of not getting help from the safety or being picked)... Or that Peterson is always lined up on the best player... Even though this year, he was pretty much stuck on one side with Cro manning the other.

I have said he isn't the best. I have said he needs to improve. Still one of the top 10 CBs in the NFL. He isn't the best.

That wasn't necessarily meant for you Chopper. It's just the litany of excuses some give the guy that I just can't buy.

Like what? Peterson gets more flack on this board than anyone on the team; some of it merited, some not.

No one is excusing his play as he can be much better.

Bottom line is Petersen has sucked at times. Completely been burned on the field and has committed pass interference on plays to stop from getting burned for 6 more than a few times.

He as of right now is OVERRATED and has played horrible this season. Is it a sign of things to come? Maybe or maybe not. I will reserve judgment for next season....well next season. As of right now? This guys needs to step up.

I think its funny that people try to defend Peterson's play by making excuses for him.

He's the HIGHEST paid CB in the NFL. He will be rightfully held to HIGHER STANDARDS THAN EVERY OTHER CB IN THE NFL.

With more money comes higher expectations and standards. Peterson should have known this otherwise he shouldn't have signed that contract.

Rubbish. That's not the conversation that is being had. People are saying that he is one of the top CBs in the league. You, and others, are saying that's not true. We're not talking about value for money right now.

This. I stay away from stats for this reason. SO MUCH is reliant on your teammates, that individual stats are tough unless they are for a QB or receiver, or maybe a running back, but even those are dependent on EVERYONE doing their job.

It has been pointed out, and acknowledged as a point by you that S help bodes well for a CB. Peterson needs to play better. We need a pass rush to help him out, and better help over the top.

Football is a team game. Reliance on hard stats doesnt give us the whole picture. Do we REALLY think PP is in the bottom third of CB's in the league? The ranking above says he is. I say Horse pucky.

Yes, because you would EVER enter a negotiation with the angle of "Well, I dont think IM worth THAT much. Knock that number down a bit, would you???"

Speaking of bordering on mental retardation...
