if they don't land LeBron and only get Amare and... I can't even imagine who else... I'm going to continue to enjoy DA's complete suckage and Amare just being shown to be a guy who cares only about money, going to one of the least successful franchises in sports.

5 year max is insane.

Not for New York. They're not going to get him with anything less than an overwhelming offer and it's one of the few franchises that can do it without too much concern for the bottom line.

You get the feeling that New York is outbidding themselves for Amare? I do.

Yeah, I do as well....because I think LBJ is going elsewhere or staying in Ohio. I doubt the Knicks getting Amare is going to be the clinching factor in getting James. And if the Knicks don't land one of the top 5 free agents, they will have much egg on their faces.

And I'd bet a nickel you're wrong. Amare wants to be a great player. He wants the respect and adoration that comes along with it and if/when NY turns on him he'll be devastated. I'm not saying the money doesn't matter to him but there is more to the guy than money, IMO. He's not Joe Johnson.

Steve

That's what he says. I'm not sure that is his long term goal.

I always believed it was strictly money for Amare....his ego won't let his brain think any other way. He always talked and believed he was much better than he is. Too bad his play never backed up his talk.

I don't think he has the right basketball upbringing and on court intelligence to achieve his goal but I do believe he wants to be great. I even believe he's willing to put in the effort to achieve this goal but he has no understanding of just what he needs to change. From what I can tell he received just as much quality coaching in college as he did in high school (IOW, zero).

If the Knicks don't get Lebron......eerily similar of New Jersey and Ron Mercer of years ago.

I'm sure most of the players in the league want to be great.

elsewhere, meaning Chicago, Miami or NJ should have clarified...my bad But I think it was a given seeing how those are the only other 'major' teams really in the LBJ sweepstakes who even have a shot.

This is where I thought he would go. I think it's ironic that Amare took shots at D'Antoni (regarding defense) on the way out yet is signing with NY. It's not surprising because D'Antoni put Amare up on this huge pedestal the entire time he coached here. Amare wants that back IMO along with the 5 years on a contract.

I think Amar'e realized D'Antoni was right, you don't need any defense! :D
