Instead of feeling bad about losing some stinkin job, get a better one, make it better. The best guy never gets fired.

No, No, No. Please tell me you don't believe what you just said. And the people were RIFFED, Laid OFF , not fired.

True Dat!

BTW - The point behind the pot thing, is I feel we should be able to make our own deicisions. Pot being illegeal is one of the dumbest things I have ever had to deal with. Plus if it was legal you could just grow it.

Laid off, is a nice way to say fired.
Laid off due to a slow economy, is an excuse for not doing a good enough job to keep jobs.

Life ain't easy. The guy that hires you, is usually the guy that has to fire you. That's no fun either, and if it happens too often, that guy gets fired too.

The best job security, is to make your employer so much dough, that he would never let you go.

Another thing how do you get around the whole felony thing when looking for a job? It kicks my butt out the door everytime.

Rugby, in Arizona we voted twice to allow doctors to proscribe medical marijuna to their patients in pain and twice the politicians changed that law and took the privlege away from the doctors. These politicians were Republicans and Democrats. Any time you try to group a bunch of people into one category, you are doing yourself and that group of people a great dis-service.

Voters tend to approve/allow the use of marijuana when given the opportunity.

True Dat! Nice quote buddy!

But my beef in this thread is not with pot. That is small potatoes!

I am more concerned with people finding jobs, and recieving the affordable medical attention they need.

I already know that both Demi's and Republicans are moron's when it comes to marijuana.

But what the heck do I know anyway!?! I don't know anymore than what I am told. I try hear everyone's opinions and get my own. Politics is mumbo jumbo anyway. What does a politician from a rich family that earns 100,000 plus a year know about "problems" anyway.

Rugby, in that regard, the biggest problem this country is facing now is the manufacturing has all gone overseas. Millions of jobs have been lost because of this. The idiot companies who do this and the idiot politicians who allow this have created a problem that will have lasting effects for the next 50 years. Our economy has had to switch gears and find new ways to create new jobs. We are just now starting to see what those efforts have produced. It won't be enough to make up for all the jobs lost, but it will help. This is a pet peeve of mine. How can companies be so stupid to not realize if your not hiring people where you are trying to sell your wares, no one will have the money to buy anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the ugly side of capitalism at work. Hell, one look at Wal*Mart is all you need to see. They wave our flag while buying massive amounts of goods from overseas. Since companies are in business to produce the biggest possible profit every quarter - executives risk their jobs if they look to long term solutions at the expense of short-term loss.

Good post CardFan...I can only add that Canada, Australia, China, Cuba, North Korea, and every other country regardless of ideological persuasion have upper, middle, and lower class incomes. In some countries the divide is not so noticable, or does not officially exist but it is there.

Lex, what's up with you? Working on a Macro Econ report at MCC? In the real world lay offs occur not due to performance but to lack of demand of services or products as well as cheaper labor across the border. Companies also dump older employees as they get close to retirement so they are not obligated to provide a pension or to 100% vest an employee who may be due big money. When an entire department is cut from a company due to "Reorganization" is it the employees fault that he got laid off or "fired" as you put it? It's obvious you haven't been working in the real world for very long, if at all. "The best job security is to make your employer dough." Naive statement, there are more service oriented jobs than sales jobs and sometimes even though you do everything you can to prove your worth by how much money you have saved a company, it doesn't matter. Look at nurses, therapists, teachers, policeman, fireman, purchasing agents, facility managers, social workers. These people provide no direct income to their employer but they add value to peoples lives. And those people have families to support such as I do. And they all can and have been laid off at some point in recent history somewhere in the US. Are they lazy? Non-productive? I don't think so, the economy plays a major role in who stays and who goes in major corporations. My first lay off was following 9/11 when the travel industry plummeted. I was employed by a company that provided travel services and my entire department was axed. Were we bad employees as you say? No, the salary expense did not equal the revenue generated so away we went. My most recent lay off, occuring this Friday, was due to my being hired in as an independent contractor, which is becoming more and more popular with major organizations. When the company had to lay off 40 of it's employees those of us that were contractors lost our jobs so that the company could keep as many regular employees as possible. Had nothing to do with performance or generating revenue. 'Tis the economy and the way many companies do business. I hope, Lex, that you never have to deal with lay offs or downsizing or reorganizations but if you go work for a Forbes 500 company, it is very likely to happen. I'm off my pulpit, sorry for being long winded.

One of my faults, is that I'm brutally honest. I call it the way I see it. For point of reference, I'm currently in my 4th "career," been fired once, from a ten grand a month job. The GM I was working for, got his own gig out of state, and as usual, the new GM had his own people to bring in. No big deal, that's life, I moved on.

I like my new 9-5 job MUCH better.

I understand everything you posted in your reply to me, that stuff happens all the time. But, individuals in this country have the ultimate choice in what they do for a living. I choose not to take jobs where I could end up being "downsized," my proactive choice.

There is some risk involved in my being proactive, I have NO guarantees, NO retirement plan, NO paycheck unless I produce. If I can produce enough income for my employer, I earn enough for myself, and guarantee my own job. Motivation is no problem in this system.

It's my opinion, backed by 25 years working, that employers dangle those benefit carrots out there to keep employees motivated, while NEVER intending on actually PAYING those benefits.

Sorry, but to be brutally honest ... I think you could help yourself by forgetting about all these big picture problems you perceive to be unfair, and focus on what YOU can do to make YOUR life better.

Or, call me an ass, and move on. At any rate, good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

OK, you're an ass, but an honest one!! :D

I always thought of myself as the most negative realist but shall pass that crown to you!! :notworthy

I am sure something will come along but we all make different choices for our lives, some are called to sales type jobs, others to human services type jobs. Without diversity, the world would be boring.

Peace!

The best job I ever had was when I was a male escort hired out to visiting business women. Talk about a great job!!!!! The only problem was trying to figure out how to live on $25.00 a month.

Right on Lex! (No offense NFL FAN)

This is a huge point. The have not's spend so much time hating the wealthy and despising the 'system'. The 'system' is the 'system'...spend that energy focused on how you can get yours and make yourself more money, rather than focused on who has it and why that sucks.

Your here because of the system. There's the television. It's all right there. look,.. listen,.. kneel,.. pray,.. commercials! Were not productive anymore. We don't make things anymore. It's all automated. What are we for then? Were consumers. You buy alot of stuff, your a good citizen. But, if you don't buy alot of stuff, if you don't, what are you then I ask, what? Mentally Ill. Fact Jim, fact!

~Jeffrey Goines

Ok, that really doesn't have anything to do with anything, but I like the movie.

Sorry. Back to the discussion....

None taken. I actually come from a well to do family as does my wife. I don't despise the system, it is as we have let it become. Change will only take place if the silent majority get off their butts and do something about it but I don't think they realize they have the power to make changes. The ACLU generally represents small fanatical groups and end up with results that affect huge numbers of people and those people complain rather than vote or write letters to Congress. How long before "In God We Trust" is removed from coins and paper money because it infers mixing religion with politics. Most of the buildings in Washington DC and your various states capital buildings will be spending some serious tax payer dollars to take any reference of religion down, yet this country was founded under the belief in God and many other freedoms. I doubt our founding fathers would be pleased with the way the constitution is being twisted to destroy so much that they originally fought for. OK, I'm waaaay to deep here and must be on some kind of last day at work high. Thanks for those mushrooms on my salad, 11!! Somebody slap me.

The ACLU gets a bum rap from conservatives and "social engineers" who want to tinker with the liberties that our founding fathers were trying to protect.

The American Civil Liberties Union is a non-profit, nationwide membership organization dedicated to the defense of individual rights and liberties. The essential goals of the ACLU are embodied in the U.S. Bill of Rights which, in summary, provide for:

Freedom of speech and press
Freedom of religion and separation of church and state
Due process of law
Privacy
Equal protection under the law
Freedom from cruel and unusual punishment

Does this sound like twisting the constitution to you??

Amazing, simply amazing.

While the ACLU has done some great things toward civil liberties, they also have been backing questionable causes. Lets look at a what the ACLU lets us now do:

We can burn our American Flag that so many Americans have died for.

We can place large banners in our front yards threatening and abusing any religion, sexual orientation, race that we feel needs to be put down.

We can march a group of Nazi's through a neighborhood of haulocaust survivors.

We can march a group of KKK members through a predominately black town in Alabama.

Cults mascarading as religions can sacrifice live animals at their ceremonies.

We can own assault rifles whose only purpose is to kill people.

We can, in the privacy of our own homes watch all the porn you can handle. And isn't it great that porn has become so mainstream, young girls, maybe like your daughter, are headed to Hollywood to make it big as a porn star, wouldn't you be proud!

We will eventually lose religion of any sort in any government facility which will require quite a few taxpayers dollars as the bible is quoted in just about every government building and monument in America. This country was founded on religious freedom, the freedom to worship God, the creator of heaven and earth, as one saw fit. They did not foresee the huge changes that would take place in this country regarding morals, religion, ethics, promiscuity, hatred, so many looking the other way rather than speaking their minds. Jefferson would never have agreed to most of the amendments that have been added in the 20th century.

I think if George, Thomas, Benjamin and the others were to visit us today and see all the wonderful improvements to life that have been made thanks to those who manipulate the constitution for personal gain they would be appauled.

One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Land of the free, home of the brave. Not anymore, I am afraid.

Land of the coward behind a computer screen, home of those who won't find the time to stand up for what they believe in thinking someone else will do so. I am as guilty as anyone.

Allrighty then.......society is what society is and I can only teach my children what I feel is right and true. Don't judge anyone by appearance, never hate your fellow man, help those who are in need, work hard and lead an honest life, respect yourself and others, respect all life, stand up for what you believe in and most important..take care of your Dad when he gets old :p

Anyway, we all have different opinions and will never see eye to eye and that is what makes this such a great country, that we are all allowed to speak our minds without fear of being exiled.

Peace to all!!

That was a great post.

The only place I don't agree is being against the support of freedom of choice.

Yes, I HATE racism, flag burning, KKK and all those terrible hate filled stuff.

BUT that is what freedom is. Those people are NOT infringing on others rights so they have the right to say and believe in what they want. The minute they infringe on somebodies rights THEN there is cause for justice.

And don't give me this "WELL I DON'T WANT THAT STUFF IN MY TOW" BS. You dont like it then move, then change the station, change the challenge, don't smoke the pot, don't drink the drink.

You don't want you kids or the people you love doing something than TALK TO THEM, TEACH THEM, PUT THE TIME IN TO RAISE AND EDUCATE THE ONES YOU LOVE.

Instead of this blame everyone else but yourself Bullpoop. I am not one to look the other way. I speak my mind, and thus labeled a "disturber of the peace", or an atheist heathen. Standing up for your beliefs is great and all untill your thrown in jail and labeled a felon.

As for the system......I think it is OK in theory. The problem is that the people have lost their voice. How can a poor guy who needs to work EVERYDAY take out 4 hours from 9-5 to go vote. Election day SHOULD BE a non-work holiday to give people the whole day to go vote. Politics, AND LAW should be taught in school to educate the people on what is going on.

Now for the big one. FELONIES. A felon can NOT vote ever! So you get arrest, tried, and sentence when you are nice and young and don't know any better. You say to yourself. This is f'd up. But what can you do. Your voice is taken away since you can't vote and now you can't do anything. And since nobopdy cares until it happens to them. It insures that things will NEVER CHANGE.

And politicians and company big wigs will NEVER let it change. We can't legalize drugs! It makes to much money! People get caught doing non-violent things. Labeled felons cause of manditory minimum sentencing (which also has the courts backed up since plea bargins went from 95% before manditory min. sentencing to about 2% where it stands today). Then the felons can't find a job because it is hard enough to get one in the first place. Plus companies now OWN privately owned prisions where they use the prisoners like slaves which cuts down on more jobs. Forcing the people to commit more crimes, and turning more of them into slaves, and taking more jobs away from people. Thus creating more crime, and more felons. This will go on until felons can vote or until felon out number the general population and civil war breaks out.

But hey politicians are rich, and so are company owners so what do they care?

And we can't do anything about it cause WE CAN'T VOTE! It is a shame too cause who would no better about how f'd up the legal system is than people who have to deal with it.

whew!

BUT to agree this country is great. Not for its leaders, cause they are idiots. The US citizen. Joe Schmoe. The American people in a whole are what make this country great. Unfortunately we have become slave to the system. As said before we have great ideas, and visions of peace and harmony. But as I said who wants to speak their mind, or stand by their beliefs if they are going to get arrested for it ?

And NFL_FAN said it right. It starts by people/parents TALKING and TEACHING the ones they love to do what you think is right.

Cause if you let some yahoo religious freak, some crack head, or even worse the TV talk to them, raise them, or teach themthen who knows what will happen ? They could end up fighting against the infidels or sitting on the corner smoking their life away or so worried about "looking pretty", "getting material goods", and following the TV propaganda that they become a walking dollar bill.

I would like to get off my soapbox now while saying please change laws to let felons vote, maybe after a period of time after the conviction.

And now I would like to end this by saying.......I think McCown my be a good enough QB that would could do something else with our #3 pick

:D

BTW - Great Thread!

Sorry, but to be brutally honest ... I think you could help yourself by forgetting about all these big picture problems you perceive to be unfair, and focus on what YOU can do to make YOUR life better.

Or, call me an ass, and move on. At any rate, good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

A job where hard work pays off? Wher you get out what you put in?

What is pro-active? Some of us youngings would like to know!

Talking to a guy who loves 12 hour work days, or 9-5 Mon-Fri. As hard as you can go for those 8 hours!

Ah! To have a job where I don't get done in 3 hours, and have to sit a stare for the final 3 !

Non-simulation is the WORST!

No one has mentioned that we, as members of a capitalist country, have the opportunity to be entrepreneurs, and thats BIG. The implications are far-reaching.

Well said. It seems to me that the individuals and groups who denigrate the activities of the ACLU are the ones who are being outed for their misdeeds or seem to be losing their "competitive edge" for their skewed agenda. One would hope that the activities of the ACLU as a watchdog for freedom, weren't necessarry, but sad to say the Bill of Rights has become a convenient doormat for the politically warped. Support the ACLU, as you might need its services some day. Hopefully it won't follow the path of the dinosaurs. :(

P.S. I have omitted my sig so as not to upset individuals who have requested the omission of " SoFlo " in my post or sig. Maybe the ACLU will defend my right to using " SoFlo ". I'd rather use my "ACLU coupon for a bigger fight".
