Hello Rodger? (Goodell)
This is the NFLPA....Fine Thank you. And you?

Good good. Listen I just wanted to give you a jingle to clear something up. I had the impression that when the owner's opted out of the current CBA it was because salaries were out of control.

Well, I'm asking because obviously some teams have been throwing buckets of money for free agents. Teams like Chicago, New York, Miami....teams that i would describe as big markets seemed unfazed.

I see. Uh huh. Uh Huh. So you're saying in these economic times that most teams...oh, many teams....oh, a few teams are losing money?

Oh, not LOSING money, just not making enough millions.

Uh Huh.

So it's safe to say that there will be some teams that will still pay theses outrageous salaries but other that won't or can't, right?

Uh huh.....Uh huh....

SO the next obvious question, will the teams that don't spend drop their ticket prices?

Yes, I agree. That was a stupid question.

Are you worried that this may create an unlevel playing field?

Uh Huh....Uh Huh.....I suppose.

Well Rodger, I got to tell you. From an outsider looking in it appears the NFL should change the name to the MLF....Major League Football. Teams like The Jaguars will be much like the Kansas City Royals or Pittsburgh Piratess.

Uh huh...uh huh....So you're saying those teams will have to operate more efficiently in order to compete.

SO in reality competitive balance is not the most important thing but rather increasing the bottom line for teams even though some teams are doing well.

Uh huh.

I see, you are confident the owners will come up with a plan that will keep the competitive balance in place.

Uh Huh.

So there will be teams that will make more money without having to actually be a successful on the field.

Oh, I get it. So if fans don't support their teams, even though they become perrenial loser's, you can just move them to L.A.

Uh Huh.....I got to tell you again Rodger, it sounds like baseball to me.

I heard this actually works in the owners favor. The NFLPA was keeping an eye to see if salaries dropped (my guess is other than the ultra-rich ones we saw yesterday, they will for mid and low level free agents). They are then hoping for a ruling that would allow them to treat teams as separate entities and they can claim collusion on salaries.....

Yesterday wasnt nearly as big of a day as usual actually. It is the worst day in terms of total money on the first day of free agency during this current CBA and the last one.

Take today for example. Not a peep out of anyone in the NFL for the most part. In the past the FA splurge period went for a good 3 to 4 days. Today I think everyone took a nap.
