RIP: Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011)

http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=636902&GT1=28101

Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor, the violet-eyed film goddess whose sultry screen life was often upstaged by her stormy personal life, died Wednesday at age 79.

She died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks, publicist Sally Morrison said.

"All her children were with her," Morrison said.

Taylor had extraordinary grace, fame and wealth, and won three Oscars, including a special one for her humanitarian work. But she was tortured by ill health, failed romances and personal tragedy.

One of my favorite people in the business. Maybe on the planet.

The world just got a whole lot duller.

(Thanks for all the devotion to HIV/AIDS Elizabeth. God bless you for that.)

The Republic just had a photo of her and one of her husbands (maybe her first). He died in a plane crash and it was the anniversary of his death. She was young and so beautiful.

Sad day. I liked her. RIP.

Yeah, I always remember a Princess Leia quote about that death. She said something along the lines of "Her husband died in a plane crash and my father comforted her with his penis". I'm not sure she meant that in a good way.

Mom and Dad were great friends with Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Mike Todd. Mike died in a plane crash in 1958, when I was two, and my dad flew to Elizabeth's side, making his way slowly to her front.
He first dried her eyes with his handkerchief, then he consoled her with flowers, and he ultimately consoled her by sleeping with her.
This made marriage to my mother awkward, so he was gone within the week. If Mom and Dad were Jennifer and Brad, then Elizabeth Taylor was Angelina Jolie. I saw more of Dad on television than in real life.
He later wrote his autobiography, Been There, Done That - well, he called it an autobiography, but I thought of it more as a novel. I like to call it Been There, Done Them, because it really was just about the women he'd slept with and how the sex was and what their bodies were like (so it is a feelgood read).
But after I read it, I wanted to get my DNA fumigated.

She was a fantastic actress, a sultry sex symbol, and a Hollywood icon. Her Kate in Taming of the Shrew was marvelous, and I wanted to jump into the scene with her :) She will certainly be missed.

I prefer the quote I had heard so I went in search of it. I found this on IMDB: "I don't know if they were culturally significant, but they were very popular. My mother and my father were America's sweethearts. They literally received that tag. Even my parents sort of went along with the assumption that they were a good couple, but they probably weren't a very good couple. Anyway, my father was best friends with a man named Mike Todd. Mike Todd was married to Elizabeth Taylor. Mike Todd died in a plane crash, and my father consoled Elizabeth Taylor with his penis".
