Emmy-winning character actor Harry Morgan, whose portrayal of the fatherly Col. Potter on television's "M*A*S*H" highlighted a show business career that included nine other TV series, 50 films and the Broadway stage, died Wednesday. He was 96.

His daughter-in-law, Beth Morgan, told The Associated Press the actor died at his home in Brentwood after having pneumonia.

That's a long life to live.

RIP, Mr. Morgan.

He enjoyed what he did for a living. It's amazing how something like that can add years to the average lifespan. Everybody should watch Support Your Local Sheriff this weekend in honor of Harry. One of my favorite all time movies. RIP.

Steve

Rest in Peace.

Never appeared on a talk show because he didn't want to come on and talk about himself. Felt it would take away from his tv show/play/movie.

Usually when a prominent character leaves a popular TV show, his or her replacement doesn't seem to be able to fill their shoes. However, when McLean Stevenson made one of the worst career decisions of all time(Hello Larry anyone?) which led to the death of Henry Blake, Morgan came in as Col. Potter and the show never missed a beat. He was my favorite character on that show who let you know who was in charge yet didn't rule with an iron fist. A far cry from his guest appearance earlier in the series as a bigoted nut ball of a general. But Potter commanded respect and he got it. So much so that when the series came to a close, resident goofballs Hawkeye and BJ actually saluted him with a genuine standing at attention salute and Harry Morgan brought that character that respect. He not only replaces the popular Stevenson. He made us basically forget the LTC. Blake character. RIP Harry. You were one of a kind.

Harry Morgan was the man.

RIP Col. Potter. Here's to another ten gun salute.

Love that guy..... His contributions will live on forever.

A lot of people don't know that he actually was on M*A*S*H before he joined the cast as Col. Potter.

R.I.P. This news made my day sadder.

I really believe back handed slaps at people who have passed really ruins the point of a memorial thread.

It wasn't back-handed. It was front-handed. Sorry I have no tolerance for men that beat their wives.

I loved M*A*S*H, and I loved Harry Morgan's contribution to the show. Does not change who he was as a human. I am not trying to illicit any kind of a response, fwiw, nor am I trying to diminish anyone else's sadness at his passing. Simply stating my opinion of the man.

I hope he Rests in Peace. I hope his wife now Lives in Peace.

Trash & ban as you see fit, if needed.
