Good for you and neither do I, but that doesn't mean that other people don't. I just don't like calling an act inappropriate without knowing the facts. For starters how DT feels about it. Because if it is something she has no problem with than I think we could probably leave it at that. The employer dynamic obviously adds an extra wrinkle as there are many things that can be seen as innocent or playful that can be taken much more seriously when done by a person's boss.

again. the ass-slap hasn't happened in a vacuum. this is a guy who has legendarily been shown to be a total jerk to anyone he pleases in his organization... and I'm talking about everyone knowing he was a flaming ****** BEFORE the article came out also claiming him to be a racist and sexist.

This may be one of the most anachronistic posts I’ve ever seen on ASFN. It’s like words came from a different era.

DT wouldn't even need to be the one who files a complaint. Hell, I could file a complaint.

Some strong takes on the Sarver situation here:

that's a really good article about not putting the burden on Black people/athletes to solely defend racist allegations from people they know, especially if there are also white people in the same position.

Yeah, it is starting to seem like the defenses of Sarver are starting to be along the lines of "I can't be a racist or misogynist because I have black and female employees." That same old tired trope.

Stephen A. Smith weighs in on the subject.

Stephen A Smith is a tool but I agree with him. If the racist and sexist stuff happened he needs to go. However, there is going to have to be corroborated evidence or he isn't going anywhere.

I have lots of female friends. I wouldn’t slap them in the ass. And I’m not even their boss. Nor do I have all the other pantsings, goats, etc to color my character.
Oh for god's sake. I wouldn't either. But I can believe that it's sometimes a cultural thing.

For example, I have some female colleagues who basically can't have a conversation with me without putting their arms on my forearms or shoulders. Is it a violation of my space? Yes. Do I wish they wouldn't do it? Yes. Do I feel like it constitutes sexual harrassment? No. Do I feel like I can ask them not to do it? Hell no.

Back when I played pick-up basketball with other faculty and staff, there was a guy who used to slap other players' asses. He did it to me once. I thought it was odd, because I've never really been part of that culture. But, whatever, it was his way of communicating. Later, I learned he was gay. Did it change the way I thought about his ass-slapping? Not at all.

The dude slapped a woman’s ass, one of his own players, on the court two months ago. That ain’t the sign of a guy who’s cleaned up his act. That’s a sign of a guy who thinks he can do whatever he wants to whoever he wants. And this level of entitlement is on display in front of cameras. If you think his behavior gets better OFF camera, I think you’re being incredibly naive.

Guys who are still slapping woman on the ass without their consent, for ANY REASON are still living in a bygone era that deserves to be swept into the dust bin of history.
I wasn't aware of when that happened. I am just trying to process the disparity between what this article says and what Monty and Larry say. Has James Jones chimed in?

As far as the Taurasi slap, I doubt she even noticed it in the excitement of the moment. It doesn't make it ok at all, it just explains why it might not have seemed to bother her.

I bet it does bother her now.

Well. I guess I am not on the same page with you all regarding Monty. He seems to be a straightforward guy to me. I tend to believe people until proven wrong.

Although I give no credence to what Sarver says in this situation. Guilty people lie and innocent people deny. Can't tell the difference often.

That’s fair. Monty also probably isn’t involved day to day in the corporate part of the Suns. I’m guessing his view of Sarver and others within the larger framework of the entire franchise might be a little limited. James Jones probably has a more expansive view though.

I bet Larry is barely there enough to see the day to day though. Could be wrong there.

There is a paywall for the article but here is a snippet from a Robert Sarver interview.

Oh for gods sake 1982 wants it’s diatribe back. This is an owner - you know a boss - slapping a female on her ass. It doesn’t matter if it’s sports. IT DOES NOT MATTER. This is 2021. You said you didn’t like it. If you told HR it would stop immediately. If you told them it would stop immediately. I’m honestly shocked that some of you believe that to be acceptable behavior.

I didn't see any reference to those particular comments about Ayton in the ESPN article by Baxter Holmes on 11-4-2021.
