SteelDog - that's a drum kit for RB?
SWEET!
SWEET!
That press release says that all downloaded content will work with RB2, not that the RB1 on-disc content will work with RB2 like that other link speculates. That's a significant detail.I don't think it's going to be free for those that have not already purchased the content via Rock Band 1. I don't see that happening and Harmonix makes no such claim in their official press release. However, the official Press Release has some great news for us RB1 people who have already purchase content. Much of what was already stated appears to be official in regards to backwards compatibility with already purchased content and your old instruments.

Right, I'm not denying that the new disc + the DLC is a good deal (I'm looking forward to it even though I must say I'm a little disappointed by that leaked list), I was merely expressing my doubts that the RB1 on-disc material will be released for free like that other link says. Not really. With over 200+ songs available and with a rumored 80+ songs on disc, I am more then confident that most of the songs from RB1 will make it over. If not, it's still not a big deal if they are going to give me 80 new songs to play with. Either way it's a win win deal. With the new game I still get new game play, new modes and the opportunity to upgrade my instruments. If they don't include the stock songs from RB1 then I get a huge new set of stock songs.
Yeah, I missed that. Oops.I think he knew that. He asked "that's a drum kit for RB?". Not the drum kit. I made the same mistake when I read the post the first time. That is so sweet that we are going to get some 3rd party stuff. Especially from companies that specialized in instrument kits. This should open the door for some really cool stuff.

WOW. Rock Band has indeed managed to pull it off. The RB1 songs won't be a free download as reported, but you can somehow rip them onto your hard drive (360 & PS3 only, sorry Wii. Guess I'm gonna need a bigger 360 hard drive) for use in RB2. How much that matters when RB2 is more or less just a functional tweak is up for debate, but that is still really cool. And more importantly (IMO at least), RB2 will have a downloadable pack of 20 songs this fall that they didn't have time to put on this disc, for free. That's called making a statement. Activision is officially under notice.
Oh, and Guns n Roses has a track from Chinese Democracy on it.

Edit: according to the press release, "most" of the RB1 on-disc songs can be exported to RB2, rather than all. It will be interesting to see what that's about.

Per an article I read yesterday, Harmonix is having some licensing issues with 5 songs. That is the reason that they may not make it onto the RB2 download list.
Makes a bit of sense, after Aerosmith went exclusive with GH, the song "The Train Kept a Rollin" may not be available for RB 2 download pending what the agreements between Aerosmith / GH / RB are.
That's ok, that song is week anyway.
so the symbols look like the same notes as the drums....
Thats freaking awesome. So advanced. Pretty cool stuff.
