Credit where credit is due, he had a great game, I felt they should have left him in to try for the cycle. But what we're seeing right now is a hot streak, not his normal production.

He is a career sub .250 hitter who does not draw walks and has sporadic power, who also has hit poorly with runners on. He does not provide protection in the slightest, as was evident when the Pirates gleefully attacked him with men on 2nd and 3rd in a tie game and one out.

Trade him while he is hot, its a no brainer IMO. Unless the Dbacks think the NL is getting the DH soon then Trumbo's use is very limited.
But my point was there is no one on the D-backs who can influence the pitcher to pitch to Goldy like Trumbo.

If we get rid of Trumbo, we get rid of part of Goldy. Unless and until we can improve his protection.

I don't think Trumbo being after Goldy even remotely influences how teams approach Goldy. Like I said, the Pirates made it very clear they were thrilled to attack Trumbo in a situation where almost anyone would draw an intentional walk.

The fact that Trumbo almost never draws walks, despite having guys hit sub .200 behind him, shows he provides no protection. Teams want to pitch to him. He does not aid Goldschmidt in slightest.

And even as I typed this, Goldy came up with a man in scoring position and 1st base open, the Rockies, showing no fear of Trumbo, pitched around Paul so they could attack Trumbo. And this is while Trumbo is in a hot streak.

He does not provide any protection.

If we had a DH I'd be okay with keeping him, but you can't justify streaky and mediocre offense with absolutely abysmal defense.

Tomas has played better than I expected of late.

And woooah! Jordan Pacheco, a 3 run bomb!

Can we play the Rockies more often?

After Bradley getting knocked out early and using 5 relievers last night, JC has really stepped up nicely. 8 innings, zero ER's. What's not to like about him?

Another stellar performance by our pitcher. Maybe, they are starting to come around a little? This next series against the Dodgers should be fun to watch. Hopefully, we can play well and come away with a win or two.

Was at the game last night. Not sure what the announced attendance was - I'd peg it at roughly 20k.
Man, it is a BLAST being there when this team is putting up runs and getting a pitching performance like that!!
Great to see Trumbo, Tomas and Peralta getting their bats going! Takes SOOO much pressure off Goldy!

Yes it does.

And Collmenter took the pressure off of the Bullpen.

You're talking about teams pitching to Trumbo and how many walks he draws.

My post was about Trumbo's role in teams pitching or not pitching to Goldy.

Trumbo doesn't draw walks because that is not his game. Or his value.

As of today, Thursday, season averages for Goldy and Trumbo are as follows.

PLAYER........BAVG........SLG%........OPS

Goldy.......... .338........ .584........ 1.030

Trumbo....... .319........ .542.......... .880

If we didn't have Trumbo, Goldy's season's stats would not be what they are.

Until we can replace him with someone better (perhaps someday Peralta or Tomas), we'd be foolish to get rid of Trumbo. Especially now that he is healthy again.

Agreed - too many holes to fill without Trumbo - teams may still pitch around him, but he is the #2 RBI guy on the team, so he is contributing more than most.

Ditto... For us at this moment in time, he's the best shirt in a closet of smelly, ugly shirts. Ultimately, I really don't see Trumbo as a long-term solution for this team. Just hope we can somehow locate a viable, everyday replacement...

Can't disagree with that.

He is perfect for the AL.

Best case - he has a good season, we ship him to the AL at trade deadline :)

Definitely... OR, if the rumors are true about the potential for the NL to one day adopt the DH, we keep him... maybe... :)
