So, RG is playing the smoke-and-mirrors game before the draft, and I like what he says here. He may be telling the truth, which he can afford to do on this subject, and it may make other GMs panic more if the guy they want is on the board. He may be making it up, which could have the same effect. There's no way it hurts us, and can only potentially help us. Me likee.

With it being a lock that Peterson will be there when the Cards pick, I can imagine a ton of interest in that pick.

They have to trade the pick though before they get to the podium. You can't trade players, only draft picks.

I'm pretty sure he means that a lot of people will be interested in trading for the 5th pick if Peterson is available at that time.

If say, Miller and Gabbert are off the board, I wouldn't be oppossed to a trade with Dallas who has expressed an interest in Peterson. There will still be a "stud" available at #9, and the extra pick would be nice.

The only thing I think is a lock right now is that nothing is a lock. Well, I personally have the Cards not picking a QB at #5 overall as my lock of the draft, but anything can happen.

I hope Gabbert is available at #5, because we'll get a nice haul of picks if he is, IMO. I think San Fran, Tennessee, Minnesota and Washington will all want to move up. If memory serves, Washington doesn't have the picks to move up, but that leaves three other teams.

I've always thought that if a trade down would happen, it would involve Blaine Gabbert and most likely to the Tennessee Titans. Gabbert to the Titans just seems to fit. New coaching staff in Tennessee and Gabbert is the kind of no nonsense, gym rat that helps to erase the bad taste of the Vince Young era.

Moving to #8 would be risky if the Cardinals are eyeballing Peterson or Quinn. I can see a scenerio where Gabbert goes #5 to the Titans, Quinn to the Browns at #6, and Peterson to the 49er's at pick #7. The Cardinals then are looking at rolling the dice on a guy they really don't need like Nick Fairley or maybe a safer choice like Prince A.

It's a tempting proposition if Tennesee offers a sweet deal.

Hence, why I said "the pick" over "the player"

Not a single person has Peterson going in the top 4. Outside of that it seems anything could happen.

And when he reaches and drafts the LT from USC, he will say the guy is the PBA and that the offers weren't good enough to justify the Cards trading down.

Cleveland at 6 will, according to Schefter who's pretty reliable, be looking at WR. Any team looking for a elite prospect at WR (only Green and Jones qualify, and Cincinnati might go WR at 4) will need to jump ahead of the Browns. More trade partners for us.

Right now he's attempting to recreate the magic of the Bryant Johnson / Calvin Pace combo.

This is where the magic happens, right here.

This is how it's done, Rod works in mysterious ways, you can't know the reason why just know that our team is in good hands, he's building something special.

New England has a ton of picks. If someone was going to move up for Peterson or a big time WR, I would think it would be them.

I think we will have a ton of options.

Dallas, Philly, and Houston for PP
Washington, TN, Minny, or a surprise for Gabbert
St. Louis for Green or Jones.

The big play here is if Dallas and Washington get into a bidding war for the pick. We could pick up a kings ransom and still have a very good shot at Quinn.

I'm going to laugh my ass off at all you guys wanting a trade down when the human snail blows this pick if he does indeed trade down. I still remember how pissed I was the days we passed on AD & Suggs. IMO passing on sure fire studs in PP7 & Green at #5 isn't very smart.

Give me quality over quantity anyday!!!

Philly's #1 and Kolb for the Cards 1st and 3rd. I'd do it. Can a trade like that even be done with no CBA? I think it can.

I agree with Chris. Depending on who's available at #5, New England would be the best bet to get a ton from in return. They have an ungodly amount of picks as well as 2 great TE's. A 1st, a 5th and one of their TE's

Trading down was bad only because of who we picked. If we drafted Troy Polamalu and Anquan Boldin for example, we would have been geniuses.

Maybe this is the year that NE actually trades up in the 1st rd of a draft. They have not done this since Billicheck has been there. It appears they believe in quantity over perceived quality.

I still hope that Gabbert is the pick but if not then trading down and acquiring extra picks would be a good option.

They traded up to get Mayo in 08.

Boldin, maybe, but Troy Polamalu would still be sitting behind Adrian Wilson or be so exposed in coverage by the seven-second pass rush that we'd have that it wouldn't matter.

Plus, Polamalu would have been off the board (went 16th overall). And we had to staunch the self-inflicted wounds that we'd inflicted on ourselves by letting our best players leave for no reason earlier that offseason.

Say what?

I've heard at least a couple of people on NFL Net and ESPN say they rate Peterson #1 in the entire draft & safest pick in the Top 5.
