Other good ones include
  • To the Manor Born
  • Young Ones
  • Fawlty Towers [of course]
  • Last of the Summer Wine [on PBS now, a little odd but it grows on you]
  • Waiting for God [on PBS now]
  • Only Fools and Horses
Will probably think of some more

Fawlty Towers is one of my favorites although when I was a kid I can remember watching (movies) George Formby who was an English singer and comedian. Movies cost .06 and they gave you a piece of candy. Oh Yes! Go Cards, charge the Rams or something like that.

blasphemy, burn the heretic. Not to metion you are comparing the a character to and actor. If you said Rowan Atkinson is very good I agree, Mr Bean is IMO moronic.

Benny Hill was funny when I first saw him 40 years ago at least for a few mins
but I was 10 at the time

What's wrong with Mr. Bean? Remind you too much of a smart Brummie?

First Benny Hill and now Mr. Bean. The US hasn't had a top rated comedian other than Rodney Dangerfield in the past 25 years.

Blackadder is the funniest show ever and very different from Mr Bean, eventhough both are played by Rowan Atkinson.

I think that few people expect the Cards to make the playoffs this year. I would have been happy with 8-8 with a rookie (almost) QB and new coaches. I now can hope for a 9-7 being the optimist that I am.

C'mon John. Quit confusing the issue. We are talking about English comedians here.:D

I don't think it's so much what they're teaching - I mean, it's the same DC and the schemes don't seem that much different. It's the fact they are holding these same players accountable and demanding more from them. Best thing Rod Graves ever did was let Leonard Davis walk.

DeAnna:

In other news, Leonard Davis is now the starting RG for the NFL's #1 offense. Maybe letting Davis walk wasn't Graves' finest moment, after all.

Know what? After several years using duct tape and glue to patch the StL Cardinals into a perennial playoff team, the wheels came off the wagon and GM Walt Jocketty resigned.

When things were going good, Jocketty could do no wrong. As soon as things fell apart, it took all of one week to be: "Seeya."

It's unclear whether Jocketty resigned or was "eased out", but my point is: If it can happen to Walt, it can happen to Rod. We're a fickle public.

Right now the Cardinals are doing relatively well, and Rod deserves some of the credit (both for bringing in good players and, also, I suspect, being influential in bringing Wiz, Russ and other coaches to the desert).

But let things go a little bit south, and fans and media will return to biting large chunks from his butt.

It's the way it is.

Why? Our offense has improved. Without paying out $12 million to one player to do it.

Talk about an assinine statement. This OL as it currently sits is playing better and more dominant than it ever has any year LD played on it.

Letting him walk was the single brightest decision this organization made in the off season.

Shane:

No disagreement that the OL looks much better this year. But what do you think Russ Grimm might've done with a former first-rounder, who's finally starting to look like one now that he's being allowed to play his natural position in the NFL? We'll never know.

And the next time you want to call someone else's statement "assinine," try spelling it correctly (asinine). Kinda undercuts your argument. ;)

Further, the Cowboys O line is ranked behind the Cardinals O line in pretty much every single way.

Redsz:

Thanks for the link. I really like Football Outsiders--their Pro Football Prospectus is my bible--and I hadn't realized they ranked the Cards' OL so high YTD. Think those #7 Run Blocking and #1 (!) Pass Protection rankings might help to explain Edge and Warner's increased effectiveness this year?

I still think that Leonard Davis was a talented guard prospect who was played out-of position and/or received horrible coaching during much of his tenure with the Cardinals. And I've gotta believe that if Russ Grimm was capable of turning his current group into one of the NFL's better OLs, that he could've made Davis something special. I wish he'd been given the chance.
