Absolutely GREAT show. It was virtually a Pink Floyd concert because Waters only played 1 or 2 songs from his solo catalogue. Between the 2 sets, there was a great variety of Floyd classics. I don't have a total recollection of all the songs played but I'll try my best here.
In no particular order -
Set 1:
In The Flesh?
Mother
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V)
Have A Cigar
Wish You Were Here
Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
Vera
Bring The Boys Back Home
Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert
The Fletcher Memorial Home
Set 2:
The entire Dark Side Of The Moon album
Sheep
Leaving Beirut
Encore:
Another Brick In The Wall (Pt. 2)
Comfortably Numb
I know I'm missing a couple songs here and there (the encore was 3 songs), but that is the bulk of the show there. This was my favorite concert ever. Waters's cynical narrative style translated beautifully in a live environment. The sound was phenomenal and you had all the stereo effects that you hear on the album. The pig made an appearance and he was graffitied up with anti-Iraq War messages capped with "Impeach Bush Now" scribbled on his butt. Towards the end of the song "Sheep", the pig was cut from his tethers and ascended into the sky.
Waters would never be accused of having a classically good singing voice. As a matter of fact, his voice would probably best be described as sometimes atonal, bitter and sour and sometimes neurotic. But, you know what? It fits PERFECTLY with the themes of his masterful lyrics. Waters really is Captain Crap-out, but as a songwriter and lyricist, he is unrivalled. The vibe of his voice conjures an uneasiness, uncertainty and desperation. Basically, his voice was spot on last night.
The tour musicians really did well. There were a couple of times where the one of the lead guitarists actually nailed David Gilmour's signature tone. Gilmour is the kind of guitarist who can do more with one note than any other guitarist can do with an entire fretboard. His is definitely not an easy act to follow, but the guys last night did fairly well. The 3 gospel singer girl supporting vocalists were awesome and the rendition of "The Great Gig In The Sky" by one of the girls was nearly orgasmic.
If you didn't go to this show, you certainly missed a great one. If Waters ever comes through Phoenix again, make it a point to go next time. Same goes for Gilmour....
