Good.

Buh-bye. Most overrated QB of all-time if you ask me. Modern day version of Drew Bledsoe.

Makes sense to retire. One good hit on his back and he would be out for the season again (or worse). IMO good qb but not great.

Underrated IMO.

How so?

Exactly. 32 fourth quarter comebacks and the third highest QB rating in NFL history. Dude got a bad rap because he played for the Cowboys. Injuries and poor personnel moves by the front office never helped him.

How many playoff games did he win ?

Guy choked like Neil Rackers any time the pressure was on.

Continually played behind good to great offensive lines, has had Terrell Owens, Dez Bryant, and Jason Witten to throw to.

Living on the West Coast, I have seen more than enough of Tony Romo, he is marginal at best. Anything else is just the east coast bias, and Cowboy hype driving him higher. Just my two cents.

Choking under real pressure helped too

There are some rumors he is using the retirement angle to get the Cowboys to release him.... a la Carson Palmer.

Speaking as someone with massive back problems, Romo
seems to have done the most sane thing in the situation. Nothing's worth being in lon-term back pain. It's debilitating physically and emotionally.

Good luck with your next career Romo.

Romo rarely had good defenses to lean back on. Think he's fairly underrated.

Was wondering how long it would take for this post to show up. Only had to scroll to the first reply.

Romo carried that clown show on his back. It's a shame that he never got to play for a stable organization and his "legacy" is going to take a huge hit because of it. Was hoping he'd get a shot in Denver or Houston, although I doubt his body would have been able to hold up.

I dunno, that is a lot of excuses for Romo, when he has had ample opportunities to make the playoffs and win in the playoffs with that Cowboys team throughout the years.

Amazing that without any experience he can instantly become NBC's #1 color man. There is an art to that craft. Hopefully he intuitively has it.

It is kind of like his reputation as a player, he is just given accolades because of where he played. If it is anything like the transition that Steve Young had at first, Romo will be HORRIBLE to start.

Hate the Cowboys; respect Romo. Never achieved greatness, but injuries derailed him.

These numbers surprised me:
Romo will finish his Cowboys career as the franchise leader in passing yards (34,183), touchdowns (248) and, most notably, winning drives. Romo's 30 game-winning drives is seven better than fellow Cowboys legend Roger Staubach and nine more than Troy Aikman.

I don't get the hate towards the guy outside of him playing for the cowboys.

Me either. He played on some pretty bad Cowboys teams and carried that team to 500 record most years when they had the talent of a 4 win team.

With people saying that he has only won two playoff games.... how many playoff games did Aeneas Williams win?

........and I HATE the Cowboys.

80-53 in the regular season and 2-4 in the playoffs. That's not a HOF career but better than most who play the position and more impressive that he did it as an undrafted free agent.

Which would make him a hall of fame player. Not his fault there was never a team around him.

That might be your opinion but I doubt enough people with a vote will agree with you. His win/loss record isn't the benchmark for induction and his lack of success in the post season will hurt him. His statistics overall are good enough to garner consideration.
