From Realgm (again):

Theres a RUMOR on local sports station in Indianapolis that The Pacers and The Suns are talking trade. JO and Jeff Foster To the Sun for Marion and Barbosa.
from the same poster:

The Pacers will trade JO and Jeff Foster for Marion and Barbosa..
Here's the thread: http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=743838

now i hate to keep posting realgm rumors that in all odds aren't going to happen but like many of you suns fans i will take any bit of hope i can get. Personally, i like a healthy Jermaine. He puts amare back up to his natural position and gives us a defensive/rebounding presence down there to help amare out. The biggest loss for us is marion's defensive versatility. Without him, we can't hide nash against the spurs and such. Foster is also an excellent rebounding big man. So in essence we trade offense for defense/rebounding, and versatility and speed for traditional/fundamentally sound.

that would probably be the scenario we're looking at. you can swap tucker for pike if necessary.

I like this trade if O'Neal stays healthy.

i forgot to mention in my original post that this shakes up our depth at the guard spot....
hill could play sg for a few and banks or straw would have to start seeing a few minutes.

This trade stinks. PHX may need to get Amare some help, but they also need a shooter. Sending Barbosa doesn't make sense.

Indiana is looking to trade JO... wouldn't be a bad time in trying to fleece the Pacers.

Not a great idea for the Suns, Marion's role is huge for this team and even throwing in Barbosa for two slow big, sorry that wont work. If Kerr makes this trade he has to fire Coach D as well and change the sytem.

Amare+filler for JO would be a good deal though.

Maybe the Suns trade a 2nd round pick for Giricek if LB has to be moved.

Financial disaster for the Suns. O'Neal's contract is terrible, and he and Stoudemire have barely one heart between them. Pass.

I like the deal. I like any deal that screws up D'Antoni's "system," and makes us a real nba team instead of a video game.

so far marion has had a better year than o'neal so maybe you could "fleece" them in that sort of trade. other than that i don't know what you mean by that. they could probably do better than marion for him anyhow

can't he opt out next year anyway? i forget.
anyway i think o'neal was somewhat humbled by his last injury. he has been playing with a lot of effort this year, so i don't see that to be a problem. plus he is frustrated with his team and has been for years now so maybe here where he's surrounded with talent he will be more managable. Amare is another story. we can only hope that when he has O'neal hear to shoulder some of the work he will show some effort in games. It's either we bring amare help and hope he responds, trade him with his currently lower value, or let him continue his poor-playing ways.

Rumors are popping up all over the place right now because the Suns are reeling. Not exactly the best time to take advantage of another team unless they are also having problems.

That's the dilemma. If a player's game starts to slide everybody says , "Trade him!" But when his game is sliding nobody wants to give up anything to get him.

If a player is playing great you can get a better return in a trade but nobody wants to trade him.

Trick is knowing when to cut your losses and run. Seems like the Suns knew last summer that it was time to part ways with Amare but it just didn't work out.

They would still need another shooter. In my mind, we need someone to come in and extend the D.

As of now, there are 3 on the roster: Nash, Bell, & Barbosa (Piatkowski doesn't count). Another sharpshooter is needed, someone who can also play ball without getting killed on D.

Kyle Korver can flat out shoot. Mike Miller would offer more than just the 3 ball. Matt Carroll could be a suprise with this team. Luke Ridnour would be a nice backup PG. Tim Thomas obviously. Gordon Giricek can be had for cheap.

There are players out there who could thrive with Steve Nash. Steve Kerr needs to go out and pull a "Bryan Colangelo".

i like this trade. something needs to happen. shake the team up. move amare to PF. do that and this team has a solid chance. if we aren't going to make a trade though, skinner needs to start.

you mean like James Jones? We had one of those and the owner deemed him and a 1st round pick too expensive. So, now you think we're going to go out and give up even more to add back salary we already paid someone in draft picks to take? I don't see it and that's why we're screwed. This team doesn't just need a trade... it needs flat out additions to it, additions that apparently our payroll can't afford, even though we're amongst the most profitable franchises in the league.

James Jones (three point shooter), KT (very good low post defender) and 3 first round picks (youth and the future)... in other two of our big three needs and part of our future mortgaged for the bottom line. Ugh.

Sure, but James Jones struggled with the 3 WITH Steve Nash. That's why PHX moved him in favor of Grant Hill (which was the correct move, so far).

I liked JJ, because he played terrific D. Many people here hated him. Just browse back to last year's posts and view for yourself... I'm sure you were one of them.

Let's see what Steve Kerr has "authorization" to do before cashing in this season.

James Jones blew nuts here and you know that. It's obvious he's a player that can play well when there is no pressure to perform.

Just a reminder, James Jones last year with the suns:
18.1 min 2.1-5.8 .368 fg% 1.2-3.1 .378 3fg%
(and almost every shot was a WIDE OPEN one)

More power to him for playing well w/o the pressure in portland, but he had a million chances here and never got it done.

This is a horrible deal. The Suns can't get more than an athletically challenged Foster (rebounder/hustler) and "I'm one bad landing away from surgery" JO? I'd have to think that if they put two of their best 4 players, they could get a whole lot more. Maybe JO of five or six years ago and Danny Granger but, otherwise, no way. We must be starving for news.

they moved him in favor of money, not Grant Hill. The correct move from a basketball standpoint would have been to keep him and sign Grant Hill and try to win a title while still making a lot of money even though you're paying a little more of the tax.

I liked JJ, because he played terrific D. Many people here hated him. Just browse back to last year's posts and view for yourself... I'm sure you were one of them.

yeah, you'd be wrong about that. I thought he was inconsistent and that frustrated me, but there was no doubt that this team was at it's best in late December and January when he was actually productive as that 4th 3 point shooter off the bench, not to mention he was at least an active body on d. And the bottom line is that anyone who watches this team not drunk on kool aid recognizes what DA's "system" needs and knows that he isn't going to deviate from that, so even if Jr was inconsistent, if this team really wanted to do everything it could to win a title, it needed to go out and get another three point shooter... which it didn't do.
Let's see what Steve Kerr has "authorization" to do before cashing in this season.

I think we saw what he had authorization to do when he was ordered to get rid of 3 point shooters, competent big men and draft picks all in the name of money. Why you think there's going to be a 180 now is beyond me. I PRAY to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

They made the correct move from a basketball standpoint. The guy was horribly inconsistent here. The only time he could hit a 3 was when we were up by 20. He couldn't hit a big shot in at an arcade pop a shot contest. James Jones was not a big loss on this team.
