I am excited because Ivory is a guy I really like and think he could be a very good player. It is Jurecki and we will see what happens, but potentially some good news.

What kind of pick to we have to give?

It depends on what the Saints put on him.

For a Restricted Free Agent, the team can guarantee him a certain one year salary which corresponds to draft pick compensation. The higher the salary the team guarantees, the the higher the compensation pick if someone signs him. Also, the team can match offers.

For example, I believe we guarantee Stevens-Howling $2 last year, and the compensation if a team wanted to sign him was a second rounder.

Ivory is one guy I would love to go after, but I don't think I want to give more than a 4th for him.

High tender is $2.879M (1st-Rd comp)
Next is $2.023M (2nd-Rd comp)
Then $1.323M (original draft round)
Then $1.323M (Right of first Refusal).

Now if Ivory is tendered on the bottom 2 then we don't have to give up a pick since he was an undrafted player.

I'm not sold on the idea of acquiring Ivory, since I think that system makes backs look way more dynamic than they are, but I know it will please some people here.

The system didn't help Reggie Bush all that much. His best season came when he left NO. The Saints are loaded at RB with each having a different skillet. Ivory is simply part of the log jam and will be the odd man out. Every game I've seen him in he's shown burst and the ability to bust through defenders. In addition, he's averaged 5.1 YPC. IMO, if I'm the Saints, I'd get rid of Mark Ingram and keep Ivory since he's demonstrated more burst and physicality.

Reggie Bush was, and still is, nothing more than a utility back, unfortunately. I know he's had some really strong performances with Miami over the past two years, but nothing near what everyone thought his talent level was at USC. There's a reason he lost carries to Thomas.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I'd love to see a comparison of Bush's numbers to Ivory's. I'm concerned that Ivory is an illusion - he was close to being cut by the Saints about three times last season, if I recall.

If the Saints tender Ivory at all, the Cards should pass. Why would they pay more than $1.5M for a guy who's going to compete in your backfield and hasn't appeared in more than 6 games in a season in three years?

While I like his skill set and when he has been on the field he has produced I am also very leary of this guy.

3 years in the league and most of that time he has either been on IR, started the season on the PUP, or a injury scratch on game day. Dude is very injury prone.

To be fair to the OP and Chopper, if there's draft pick compensation for Ivory, it's a no-go. But if he's tendered at the original-round level or right-of-first refusal, you don't have to provide a draft pick, because he's an undrafted free agent.

If he's tendered at all, I don't want him, because we'd have to pay him some $2M this year to make it worth his while to leave.
