Ok, here's the ridiculous rumor of the year... taken from that bastion of accurate sports reporting, RealGM.

Suns and Bobcats are discussing a trade:

Boris Diaw
Tyrus Thomas
Nazr Mohammed

For

Vince Carter
Hakim Warrick
OUR 1st rounder

The Suns apparently are balking on Tyrus Thomas's contract. Of course, that's 3 of the Bobcats 4 big men, so unless Charlotte has something else going, it makes no sense for them.

Personally, I think the deal stinks. I've never been a TyThomas fan and Boris, well, I have a hard time believing he'd return to his previous Suns form. Mohammed and Diaw are expiring contracts.

Make that the Orlando pick to even consider it. I have to admit I have not watched much of Tyrus Thomas but he is young. I would prefer to work the rumored trade in some way that the Suns get the first round pick.

Thomas has 5 years left on his contract, which I think is almost exactly the same amount as Channing's.

If there's anything to this at all, my guess is that it's an offer Charlotte made that Phoenix instantly rejected. I can't see any reason whatsoever why this would appeal to the Suns.

I was just gonna post about this rumor here.

IMO, I kind of like it, with or without Thomas. I think it makes us a lot deeper and much better for our playoff push. Diaw, no matter, knows our system and can be a beast in it. People are saying give em the Orlando pick instead, but look at it as a whole, and the Suns pick will be near where the Orlando pick will be anyways with the increase in wins and playoff push.
The guy who mentioned the rumor on RealGM, also said that the Cats have a second deal in place that send Wallace going to an East team for a young PF and Center (no mention of team or players).

I think if this trade goes down, then the Suns would have to have another deal to send off a combo of 2 or more of Pietrus/Chill/Lopez/Nazr/Orl Pick like a 2-3 for 1 type deal, maybe for a young stud 2.

That deal is garbage, it makes no sense for the Suns. Taking back Thomas' 5 year deal and losing a pick? No thanks.

If it was something more along the lines of Carter & Warrick for Nazr & Boris+ filler, I'd do that. But I'm not sure why Charlotte would. I'd like Boris and Mohammed's expirings and I wouldn't be against Boris resigning here if it were for a reasonable amount.

Then Phoenix should get the pick. Do you have a link to his contract?

Diaw has had one good season in his career. The rest of his time he has been lazy, unfocused, disinterested, and a cancer. The Hawks saw nothing in him before giving him away in the Joe Johnson deal (remember that the rumor was that the Suns wanted Childress instead), the Suns were desperate to get rid of him by the time the Richardson trade materialized, Larry Brown got through to Diaw for about a month before giving up in frustration, and now the Bobcats are willing to give him up for an expiring contract.

Just Say No to Diaw.

Can someone tell me why WE have to give THEM a first rd pick?

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

If Sarver does this deal, his life will seriously be threatened....not by me of course :D

This trade is no bueno. We do need a back up point guard on the fly.

I don't really see it that way. Dragic is struggling this year but the bigger problem is the team doesn't have any high end talent after Nash. So unless the back up PG is Chris Paul I don't see them making a big difference.

I'd take just about anything reasonable for VC and Warrick. Both of these players have been inconsistent at best and are players everybody knows the Suns would like to get rid of.

Yes, but there's no point taking on players who are just as inconsistent, just as frustrating, and on longer contracts. Never mind giving up a draft pick for no reason.

This RealGM poster is not the "insider" over there so I wouldn't put much credence in the post.

I hate Doris, but he's only got one more year left on his contract so that's not horrible, if the Suns are never going to "start over." No way you send them a pick for the privilege of taking Boris off their hands though.

I almost never watch Thomas, and haven't been impressed when I have watched him, but I think he would be a worthwhile upgrade over Warrick. He can bring blocks, steals, and rebounds, which would be a good contrast to Frye at the PF spot (unlike Warrick).

Oddly enough, Boris would fit in fairly well with this team - we'd have a backup PF who could actually defend PF's and his playmaking would boost the second unit a fair bit. Compared to Warrick we wouldn't be giving up too much in the rebounding dept - about 2 rebs per 40 min. Of course, it would still be annoying to watch him performing below what he could do...

Tyrus Thomas is the only part of that trade that I like.

Taking back Diaw and his contract and giving up our pick makes me want to vomit especially when we give up the huge expiring we should be getting the Bobcats pick.

Why?

By the time he'd play a game for us, we'd probably be eliminated from playoff contention.

The knee surgery Thomas underwent late last month will keep him out of action until the end of March

Diaw is an expiring too.

I'm warning up to this trade speculation if Tyrus can play the PF position. This may be the Suns best chance of getting a young PF on a reasonable contract. The Suns need to have some protection if it is their pick and not Orlando's pick. I'm liking Diaw backing up Frye now. The Suns can then go BPA in the draft. This is what Lance Blanks is getting paid for, evaluating NBA talent.

I'm thinking this one through. Thomas is only 23 years old but is in his 5th season in the league. He is an incredible shot blocker, long, athletic. He is Warrick but a little more of everything.

Diaw is just not that interesting to me any more. I think I would do it if we could give them our two picks for their one pick.
