Florio just stated that the talk from the combine is that the ravens will use the NON-exclusive franchise tag that runs at about 15 mil this year. They cant afford the exclusive tag which is about 20 mil for the year. This could be very interesting.

I was told by someone here I was crazy because there was no way the ravens dont use the exclusive tag but it sounds more and more like that wont happen. Is he worth 2 1st's and a HUGE contract I think so but I know some here dont.

I would do it. Cutler style trade for a player coming into his prime with a Super Bowl MVP under his belt.

But in all reality...... It will never happen.

I would do it also. But that's a dream.

The cards dont have the cap space plain and simple but the browns could offer a $35 signing bonus and then whatever they want per year the ravens could never match because they dont have enough money to

Ravens have agreed to a new contract with QB Joe Flacco. He will sign it on Monday

Looks like it is irrelevant now.

Reports are he will be the highest paid QB in NFL History

What an awful scenario for the Ravens. There's at LEAST 10 other guys I'd rather have than him, but there's nowhere for the team to go given how he just roared through the playoffs and won them a Super Bowl, and the poor QB draft/FA class.

Good luck to them, I suppose. I foresee that team suffering over the next few years because of the fading talent of that defense and the offense that is soon to be very overpaid.

While you're somewhat right, Flacco is very underrated by you, others, including Ravens fans. He's not flashy, but he wins & performs at a high level. We as Cardinal fans would kill for a QB like Joe Flacco. ;)

I'll tell you what, if we DID want to do it, I'd trade down in the 1st round a couple of times before having him sign the contract.

There's no rule (that I know of) that says it has to be your ORIGINAL 1st round pick. Doesn't matter if it's a steal for another team. Do it for a 3rd or 4th. Then do it again for the same or a 5th. Either way picking up a couple mid round picks would make it more worth it.

Might as well trade down to around #30 or thereabouts and give them THAT pick.

But yeah, getting Flacco won't happen.

Name 'em. When you get to Tony Romo, Andrew Luck, or RG3, I'll know you're lying.

That "highest paid" player stuff is simply a moment of timing. Flacco had the fortune (literally, now) of becoming a free agent a month after being named Super Bowl MVP. Usually the "highest paid" player at the position is the latest top-shelf player to hit free agency.

Karlos Dansby was the highest paid LB in NFL history for about two weeks.

Making Flacco the highest paid QB in NFL history is absolutely ridiculous. Absurd beyond belief.

Yeah I'm sure you would call the Cards idiots if they were trading for him in a few weeks & signing him to the same deal.:mulli: As K9 said its only a matter of time before he's a bargain compared to a few others.

Instead we gave Kolb $60mil for 4yrs :D

Trading for him? Maybe not. Giving him that much cash? Yes.

Flacco sure does get a lot of... well... for lack of a better term... flak... for being a QB who's gone to three Conference Championship Games and winning a Super Bowl in his first five season in the league.

Flacco just wins games: regular season games, playoff games, SB. And he's still young. His passes to Boldin in the playoffs and SB were things of beauty and the bomb to Jones against Denver is the stuff of legend. He's young and by the 3rd year of his contract, with another SB under his belt, he won't seem over paid at all.

Flacco turned a corner during this season's playoffs. He went from marginal to irreplaceable in a matter of months.

While there are about 8 +/- QBs I'd take over him, I look forward to his improvement in the regular season in 2013.

By the way - the biggest winner in this deal is not Flacco; it's Aaron Rodgers, whose contract gets renegotiated next offseason. Just imagine what that contract will look like.

Flacco reminds me of Troy Aikman when he played, he might not light you up but he would make crucial throws and not turn the ball over. That is a good quarterback, we need such a QB :)

If any QB helps drive the cards to a SB victory you will be calling for a statue along with contracts and the rest.
