Any trade for Jimmy G would have to include a contract extension, IMO, for this very reason.
if we give up a first for jimmy....before doing that we need to trade down in the first and get another second or third round pick....I have always liked the kid... but three starts to get to IR is scary... he is not a sturdily built fella... or he has really crap luck

Can't see Keim trading up for any player, unless it's a can't miss prospect like Garret. But even then...he values his picks too much to give up the farm for one player.

someone is trying to build interest in Watson to ensure he goes top five.... it is quite possible he is still on the board at 13....of course, closer to the draft we will have a better idea of whom the earlier teams covet

The worst part of this report is the "They are willing to trade up to get him".

Listen....if he falls to #13 and we take him, fine. I wont be thrilled. But fine.

If we trade up for a 2nd round graded player, ill lose it. And yes, he is a 2nd round graded player. Matt Miller tweeted out that every single scout and team guy hes talked to have said that although Watson and several other QBs will be drafted in the 1st round, all the top QBs in this draft has a grade that puts them in the 2nd round talent wise.

While this used to be common in all sports agents have made this a thing of the past for the most part. From what I hear he's very confident about his abilities and knows his value would soar after a season as a good starter.

WHY? What has he proven? Remember Kevin Kolb? Somehow he was given a long-term contract, even though he had a year left on the current one he was acquired with, and look how that turned out.

If Jimmy G is the real deal, he's not going anywhere, NFW that Belichick lets him out of NE if he can play, especially with Brady already pushing 40. If they let him hit the market or trade him, some idiot team will grossly overpay, and probably live to regret it.
What has any rookie proven? Zero. Garrapollo has played well though it's a small sample size. Sure there's a chance he might not pan out but you have to hope your scouts & GM have done their homework. It's no different than drafting a QB in round 1 other than Jimmy being NFL ready because he's been in the league 3 years which I think is huge.

You guys crack me up. Almost everyone here wants a franchise QB & yet they bitch & moan about coughing up a #1 & more to draft one, then they bitch & moan about signing one in FA.

Please tell me, how & who do you want to QB this team in 2018? I'm dying to know.

Btw, Big Red has hit pay dirt in signing/trading for a big time QB in 2 of their last 4 big $$$ QB signings. Just saying:idea:

I agree. I like Kizer the most but all these guys are second round material for drafts gone by. I say this because this is going to be the status quo for QB talent every year judging how college football is played now. Since QB is the most important position, what used to be a second round grade has become a first lol

I would take Jimmy G, for one reason (and the same reason I would not be opposed to McCarron)... they do not make mistakes, talented game managers and for what we have, this offense is running through David Johnson and Jimmy does have a nice deep ball for play action in my opinion :)

Says a noninsider. I love Matt Miller but he is also a mouthpiece for the NFL annual smokescreen.

2nd round talent often means first round for a QB.

Everyone has their guys. In my opinion, Miller is the best scout analyst on social media.

And thats what I said regarding the grade. Hes a 2nd round guy, but will be taken in the 1st. Can you imagine us trading away multiple picks to move up and draft a guy at #8 that should be drafted at #40? Nightmare

Even though I'd love to see us get a major impact maker for one last run, if BASK think Watson is the QB of the future, I've got no problem with them grabbing jim

Garrapolo may or may it be a good NFL QB- but not for the Cards

He lacks the arm strength for BAs offense-- the deep out rainbows out there.

With Carson Palmer coming back there are zero chance we can trade fot garappolo
Garappolo will be in the last year of his rookie contract, if we trade for him we must sign with expensive multiyear contract
No room.for this

Not true, because it would be as extension. He would play under this years salary, the Cardinals would only be on the hook for 895k. Look at Wilson's extension. You are adding years onto the existing contract, not ripping up the existing contract.

But yes, we would pay him good money, starting next year. We don't have money this year, starting next we have a lot because most of our talent is an FA this year. 40% of last years snaps are free agents right now.

I only see one quarterback worth a first round pick this year and that's Mitch Trubisky. This to me is not a good QB class.

If you've been watching the NFL long enough you understand the draft grade and player evaluations are completely subjective.

Watson has many of the measureables of the athletic QB that teams covet today. I know you are of the (false) opinion that Watson and Boyd are the same player, but if you watched more than a game or two of Watson you would know that's a ridiculously false comparison. Boyd fell apart in big games whereas Watson took his game up a notch.

I'd be okay with Watson but still don't get people's rush to replace CP. The guy threw for 4200+ yards, 26 TD's and 14 ints while really only having 1 legit WR threat the entire season and having a revolving OL for much of the season.

Brown's sickle cell and Floyd flat out stinking up the joint were the main reasons for the slow start. Fitz returning, a healthy Brown(hopefully), Nelson's continued improvement, and a WR added during free agency will vault the Cards passing game right back near the top. Adding an OJ Howard in the draft would also help.

In fact, if the Cards were going to make a draft day trade up, I would prefer taking whoever they like at 13 and trading back into the first round to get Howard.

I'll add to that and say a healthy Jaron Brown will help the receiving core as well. John Brown getting healthy would be a bonus.

While I've changed my tune about rolling with Palmer next season, you're still ridiculously eager to whitewash all of Palmer's garbage play early on. No matter how much you crow 'main reasons' weren't his fault, Palmer looked lost and shell shocked early in the season He was NOT good early in the season. ONE reason was the WR corps, but another big reason was Palmer himself. Whether it was overconfidence leading to him not preparing well enough, or him being shell shocked from his performance in the playoffs, or what, he just wasn't himself. That's pretty clear.

What changed my tune on him was his excellent finish to the season. However bad he was early, he pulled himself out of it and showed he had become himself again.
