Watson would give Fitz the impression that a post Palmer team would NOT be a full rebuild.

While I've changed my tune about rolling with Palmer next season, you're still ridiculously eager to whitewash all of Palmer's garbage play early on. No matter how much you crow 'main reasons' weren't his fault, Palmer looked lost and shell shocked early in the season He was NOT good early in the season. ONE reason was the WR corps, but another big reason was Palmer himself. Whether it was overconfidence leading to him not preparing well enough, or him being shell shocked from his performance in the playoffs, or what, he just wasn't himself. That's pretty clear.

What changed my tune on him was his excellent finish to the season. However bad he was early, he pulled himself out of it and showed he had become himself again.

Perfectly said, imo.

What I'm reading from some of you is that (a) 2nd round talent will be drafted in the 1st round, (b) the Cards should go after one and (c) we should trade up to get him.

There's a big difference between drafting a QB somewhere in the 1st round and trading up (probably within the top 10) to get him.

Also - it's still unclear to me what the skill sets and upsides of various FA and draft-eligible QB's actually are. (So far no one is knocking my socks off). More time and research is still needed (& we shouldn't be afraid to stand pat - or at least limit our search to late round or UDFA steals - if we don't love anyone else out there).

I agree CP wasn't all that great early on and I remember mentioning that he didn't look like himself. However, it seemed like Floyd had a key drop very early in a few games that set a bad tone. I think John Brown not being himself was huge too. He WAS the main deep threat to stretch the defense. That element being taken away really hurt this offense.

I'm not giving CP a free pass but it's not like he was in an ideal situation with limited weapons.

I personally think CP was dealing a shoulder injury early in the year. His delivery seemed to be different until about week 6 or 7, and then he regain his old zip. His ball seemed to float, but at the end of the year he was throwing darts.

Pretty common local media speculation as well

That's fair.

Deshaun Watson at #13: Lots there to make me hopeful, but also lots there to make me worry.

He is the only QB I would be excited about us drafting this draft. He is an exciting player and if we have to bring a QB along and teach him the pro game, then who better to bet on. I wouldn't move up from our 13th pick for him though. Even if he drops to us, I would still try to move back up to 10 spots and pick him there. If he made it to 13, he should make it to KC at 24 I think. That's if no one moves up to grab him between 13-24. That being said, if we want him I suppose we should just take him at 13 and still have our 2nd and 3rd picks to get our CB and ILB if that's still our greatest need.

All things said and considered, I would still rather pick Peterman later in draft and try to develop him. If he can't cut it, then he hasn't cost you a starting ILB or CB.

What I truly wish is that things lined up that we could get Rivers for the remainder of his few years. It gives you so much more hope when you have an experienced starting QB, than watching your team get old as you shuffle a bunch of stiffs in at QB year after year for a decade.

It's hard to quantify but Watson seems to have the "it" factor while guys like Trubisky are more robotic, cookie cutter type QB's. I know it's hard to say that without actually knowing the player, but guys seem to really like to play for Watson and look to him. I've never been a huge Russell Wilson fan but he has "it" while Jay Cutler has more natural talent but guys don't seem to want to play for him. Kurt Warner had it. Matt Leinart didn't.

LOL Was he even on your radar before the Senior Bowl? Is he just the later-round QB de jour? I don't want to waste any pick on Peterman.

This agreement game is boring me...

Agreed :D

That seems like a big part of it -- various reports are that the Clemson team was ready run through a wall for the guy.

Add this: in both the semi and the final, the announcers talked about how Watson was so good with his decision making that the Coaches have simply let him run much of what happens on the field. College coaches are control freaks - and to turn over that kind of authority to a player says a great deal.

The thing that concerns me: he has bouts of shaky mechanics where the throw is really inaccurate. Tends to correspond with having to go second read + pressure. That situation is what separates really good QBs from the rest.
