Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants earlier this week. The Giants own the No. 3 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, which doesn't guarantee them an opportunity to select top quarterback prospects Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. They pivoted to Wilson as insurance, who is currently expected to start despite the team also adding Jameis Winston via free agency.

Wilson's contract was initially reported as a one-year agreement worth $21 million. The intricate details of the deal have since been released and are far more complicated than first reported. The Giants would have to go a perfect 17-0 for Wilson to earn the full $21 million.

For QB Russell Wilson to get his full $21 million in 2025, the Giants will have to go 17-0. (If the Giants go 17-0, I'll get John Mara's face tattooed on my arm.) https://t.co/A4oGgHp29r

The Giants guaranteed Wilson just $10.5 million, per Ian Rapoport, making him the lowest-paid starting QB in the league who isn't on a rookie contract. An additional $10.5 million is available to Wilson via a complicated incentive package that pays up to $7.5 million based on snap count, performance incentives, and postseason success. Another $3 million can be earned at $176,500 per game based on victories and snap count. The math indicates Wilson can't reach the full $21 million unless the Giants go 17-0, per Mike Florio.

That certainly won't prevent the Giants from drafting Ward or Sanders if they have the opportunity at No. 3 overall.
