Although I like Lecky a lot.

I watched Kalil today. Dude looks like a stud. I would not cry if we drafted him.

Doubt if he will last to our pick in the 2nd round. However if he does it would be a no-brainer to take him.

Right on, Beerz. You should have seen Kalil in the one-on-one blocking drills at the Senior Bowl practices...super tough and flawlessly fundamental.

That says a ton to me when, I am very high on how good Lecky is & will become. But I still love the idea how much better I think Kalil is.

IMO
Lecky works well with Matt and has really come on within the system.I think our picks are better geared elswhere.

Getting a solid back up at center or one who will push him is a great idea and might be filled in FA or in later rounds.

Last night on the NFL Network, they showed Kalil going against at DT from South Carolina or NC St. Kalil ended up pinning the guy.

Kalil's dad played for the Wranglers and Outlaws.

I think there is a very good chance he will be there but I am not sure that is a no brainer...

Hoping a few other guys slip out of late rd 1 to us as well...but Kalil is in that mix. We have to come out of day 1 with two starters, IMO.

If they'd target Kalil in the 2nd , I think we'd have to move ahead of Clevland who'll be looking for someone to replace Bentley, or at least insurance there.

I've been pimping this guy for some time now, the question is whether Staley will be there in the second and who Whiz and co. like more. They also might like Samson Satele, who maybe be available into the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Kalil is a stud. I would also be surprised if he is there for our 2nd round pick. I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns took him with Bentleys career threatning injury. The Browns may also consider drafting a TE in round 2 with Winslow out for at least next year

I was pimping Ryan on the other board since last August....and got flamed for it. Not only is Ryan technically sound, but he's tough and is a very, very smart player.

You can call me a homer (and you are probably right) but Ryan was a big part of the "Big Uglies" o-line that was so successful at USC....he, Matt and Deuce were a tight group and they had total trust in each other.....if you look at the biggest plays made while these guys were in college, Ryan was a huge part of those plays.

I have read that chemistry is an important factor in the success of an o-line.....and here we have an opportunity to draft one more member of argueably one of the greatest offenses in college football history.

I like Kalil, but I think so does everybody else around the NFL. No way is he there for our pick in rd #2.

Great post. man. I didn't flame you on it...in fact, I would be tempted to trade the #5 to the Pats for their 2 1st rounders (#24, #28) so that we could take CB Dameion Hughes and C Ryan Kalil and then tab T Tony Ugoh at #39. This is about the only way we will be able to take Kalil...he'll be gone by pick #37 (the Browns picking right in front of us).

Thanks Mitch....validation of one's opinions - particularly for a woman discussing football - is flattering from an informed and intelligent member of this MB. The scenario you present above would be too good to be true...but who knows, we had a few surprises on draft day last year, maybe we will be just as fortunate this year.

Where would you guys say Kahli is at this point in comparison to Nick Mangold last year?

In all truthfulness, from what I've seen of him, I think he's capable of not only being a good player, but I can honestly see him being one of the top C in football. He seems to have excellent footwork, a nasty streak that cannot be denied and a fire under his ass to succeed. Can't hurt to have a few like that on our line eh?

Scouts Inc. (ESPN) - Mangold 92 overall - Kalil 93 overall (both mid-low 1st)
War Room (Sporting News) - Mangold 8.0 (mid-low 1st) - Kalil 7.5 (High 2nd)

The War Room see him as a good prospect, but thinks he's too finesse and simply lacks too much lower body strength to become an "elite" C in the NFL.
