Lindley was also intelligent enough to know his rookie season could have submarined any chance he had to remain an Arizona Cardinal.

Yet he’s still here. The Cardinals had four quarterbacks on the roster by the time 2012 ended and Lindley is the only one left. Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Brian Hoyer were all released. Drew Stanton and Carson Palmer were added. And Lindley is trying to prove that he can be better than the six games of struggles – no touchdowns, seven interceptions – that were his rookie résumé.

“It’s on tape,” Lindley said. “It’s set in stone, what happened. But how I go out there every day can’t be dictated off what I did last year. I’m going to get better each day from yesterday’s practice, not from the Bears game or the Jets game – although there are a lot of things I could look at there.”
Can he really improve with the new coaching staff helping him? He looked so lost at game speed it's hard to envision him regaining any confidence he had.

I have no idea why he is still on the roster.

He looked worse than Max Hall, IMO.

His mental strength is up there with DRC.

It's going to be hard for him. He couldn't even complete 60% of his passes in college where many QBs are in the 65-70% range.

But he's cheap and probably will never need to play again so no big deal to keep him on the roster if they feel they must have 3 QBs.

He is on the roster because of the cheap rookie contract. Odds are we draft his replacment next year.

It wasn't really fair that he play at all last year.

Coming from a school like San Diego, he was, in no way, ready for NFL speed. Skelton was in a similar boat, but had a bit more time to be ready.

If you draft a small-school project, you have to give them the years it takes to develop. I have no idea if Lindley will/would have become something. But, I'll trust the coaches to develop him properly this time if they still see the potential.

Well, if they keep Lindley they still only have 2 QB's, and they really only have 52 roster spots, IMO.

The guy can't play in the NFL.

I agree except that Lindley played at San Diego State not San Diego. Big difference as the Mountain West has produced some quality teams. TCU won the Rose Bowl over Wisconsin in 2010-11 for instance.

Same situation though for almost every team in the NFL.

Lindley on the team because he super cheap but I would not be all that surprised if he got beat out by that UDFA kid because he cheaper.

Lindley's a family friend, so I root for the kid, but man, he just looked awful out there this year. I wish him all the best, but I don't think it's coming.

Yeah, I knew that, I just got lazy typing.

San Diego State is still very unlikely to develop an NFL ready QB. There are few schools/systems that can do so if you are talking about early round talent.

That said, I'm not sold on Lindley, but I'm willing to give the coaches a chance to develop him if they think there is something there and not judge him based only on last year.

I guess the question is if there's a better option for clipboard holder.

I actually thought that the money quote from the article was this one:

“When we looked at the ‘ups,’ we saw some of the things with his arm strength, potential accuracy, and some of the throws he made that were impressive,” Keim said. “He had the natural tools and the physical skillset to become a solid player. It’s just going to take time and coaching and we felt like having (QB coach) Freddie (Kitchens) and (coach) Bruce (Arians) and (offensive assistant) Tom Moore, where better could a guy like that develop? That was a major reason we felt comfortable moving forward with Ryan.”

Lindley is exactly the kind of guy that Keim got on the table for in the 2012 draft--late round pick from a lower-tier program. Lindley's got sponsorship inside the organization, which will take him for another year.

Oddly enough San Diego State was going to the Big East. Though with all the changes in the conferences I don't know if that's an upward move for them and they were probably smart to stay put.

But you are right while there are several starting QBs from mid major schools, Dalton from TCU, Kaepernick from Nevada, Flacco from Delaware, BenR from Miami Ohio, the majority come from the big programs.

you know its the offseason when the most active thread of the day is an article about our 3rd string QB that noone knows about but us.

Hey!

Peter King knows about him. He said last year that he could be the most impactful QB in his draft class after RG3 and Andrew Luck.

I'll bet a lot of fans know about his 0 TDs and 7 interceptions. Unfortunately.

Skelton, Lindley, and Hoyer: 3 TDs and 18 interceptions!!! Still seems like some kind of nightmare and I'm going to wake up one morning and discover the 2012 Cardinals football season never happened.

To be fair I meant only AZ knows about him.

I guess maybe fans of teams he threw picks to know of him too.

I don't even care about Lindley's stats his rookie year. You have to look at our rooks (include Skelton) through the lense of the Whisenhunt era. I love Whisenhunt, but that's what you have to do because QB was his biggest, most epic failure. We all realize how bad our QB play has been, but we should note that after Warner, Whisenhunt couldn't even get a QB to play average. Not great, not good, just average. Couldn't do it.

If you look at our QB's post Warner through the lense of suckitude there's literally no way to judge their value.

Passes get effected by the rush, feet placement, intelligence of the QB, arm strength, fundamental hip rotation, etc. Anything Lindley did wrong was a product of what he was taught to do and you have to look at it through that lense. And I disagree that you can't teach accuracy. You can if it's a result of bad fundamentals, you can't if it's a product of arm strength or stupidity.

I like his attitude. He's big, he's young, he's cheap. There's no reason to cut him now. Any 3rd string QB we'd pick up at this point will more than likely be around later in the season. I want to see what a coaching staff that knows how to develop talented QBs can pull out of the kid. Plus, Whiz seemed like he totally checked out by the time Lindley even hit the field. Requesting we let the Jets score on us is mind boggling. What were we going to do about it? Score back? lmao, yeah sure, our offense can march a kickoff down into a TD. They did that what? Like 3 times last year? And even if by some miracle they did, we wouldn't have gotten any closer

not to mention that Lindley didn't even get a real QB coach (our QB coach, forgot his name, was in his first year at the position. He was a WR coach previously. And ironically, our WR coach last year was a QB coach previously) to work with in the minute amount of time they gave him, a 6th round pick they KNEW wasn't ready, before throwing him to the wolves

And ironically our QB coach this year was the Tight Ends Coach last year and has never been a QB coach that I know of. But at least he played QB.

Of course just like Arians is in reality the OC and Goodwin really the OLine coach Arians and Moore are actually the QB coaches.

just for giggles, who is the last mediocre to average QB that was "coached up" by Arians/Moore/anyone else and become a success?
