By that reasoning, should we jettisoning KVB, Bell and Wakefield from our D-Line (those who consituted the single worst Dline in the league) and not bring in players like Blake and Emmitt (who consituted portions of poor offenses)?

I think McNeil would be a welcome addition to a wafer thin CB depth chart.

KVB, Bell and Wakefield are all YOUNG players, who , so far anyway,. have been kept on the team because they still possess some talents and skills that the team needs.
Blake hasn't shown any deterioration of skills.
Time will only show whether the Emmitt move was a good one, so far, most things point to it was a very good acquisition.

The fact that McNeil was cut, at this point of the pre-season, should run up red flags too. This is the time of some of the easier cuts, the though ones are those made at the end of preseason for the final roster cuts.

McNeil, is old and slow. For a CB that's not too cool.

I would like to see the Cards bring in another decent CB, but I think if they wait awhile longer, more and better options my very well present themselves.

We are thin, but not desperate.

Not to pick on you Tango, but did anyone actually see McNeil play last year? I haven't, but this guy was a Pro-Bowl CB just two seasons ago. I'm sure he can't be as bad as everyone is making him out to be. Depending on his salary demand, of course, I would sign him. I know he's not "the solution", but he's the best player available at a need position.

BTW. McNeil is entering his 11th year. He has always played at the corner position until this spring.

If he is hurt (FOOT) and was on the slow side we don't need him .. Saftey is not a position of need . CB is and it sounds like he is hurt and can't keep up even at saftey.

GBR

There will be others, check em, run em sign em or send em home.

Of course we should look at him! He played corner all his career, not safety. If he's better than some of our back-ups, why not?

I'm assuming his foot isn't healthy. I don't know the extent of his injury, but it can't be good. If they were serious about keeping him at safety then Kwamie made him expendable from a leadership perspective.

No harm in bringing him in for a physical.

Why do we want other people's trash? THere's a reason guys like Mcneill and Wilkinson are being cut and it's just not monetary. If Wilikinson played up to a pro bowl level then he'd still be with Washington.

Well put. I'm not "thrilled" about added him to the team, but he would be a good addition, IMO.

There was also a reason for blake being cut by several teams but you dont complain about getting him. I dont think you read that Mcneil two seasons ago was a pro bowler. So what exactly is your point, everyone is cut for a reason.

HUH?! Jeff Blake was not cut by several teams ... he just wasn't re-signed. He was only cut by the Saints after they thought Brooks was going to be their savior at QB (who was handed the job only due to Blake's injuries).

In today's afternoon show on KDUS, Mike Jurecki said that he had discussed Ryan McNeil with Cardinals management, and was told that they considered him to be "a little too old" to merit serious interest. Went on to say that the Cardinals will move aggressively on any player(s) of interest available after the August 26th cuts.

I got a question. Would anyone in their right mind exchange Lassiter for McNeil? Think about it. They got Lassiter to replace McNeil so they apparently thought more of Lassiter. If we got McNeil, all we'd be doing is exchanging players.

Bad move!!!!

Seems to me that not a fair comparision. He doesn't even have a full training camp at Safety.

Here is the question that should be asked whenever this type of thread comes up. Is Player A REALLY better than what we have right now?

So, is McNeil REALLY better than Barrett (who I presume he would replace)? As much as I worry about how Barrett will do (I have low confidence right now), I would rather have the young player who if he can produce this year will have a longer shelf life. Before Hill got dinged, could we even suggest McNeil is REALLY better than Hill based on the transformation this training camp? I would have to say the early returns say no.

It is only natural to see a vet player get released and there be a wave of "Let's sign him" stuff. But in this case I pass.

Is Tay Cody (who seems to be replacing McNeil) that much better than the 11th year vet who was a ProBowler?

I dont see where it could hurt to sign him to a 1-2 year deal... We have the cap space, and we NEED CB depth.

True, if the player performed at Pro bowl level, they wouldn't be cut, but it's naive to think that cap issues didn't have anything to do with this. It's a combination.

San Diego was only $1.05 million under, before he was cut. I can't find the exact cap number for McNeil, but he was entering his third year of a backloaded 5 year - $15.5M contract, so I'm guessing $3M - $4M.

So you have a team with cap problem (teams usually have a $2M cushion in case of injuries). You have a former Pro-bowler with declining production, who has a $3M cap number, playing at a new positon in a secondary with two young 1st rounders, two young 2nd rounders, one young 3rd rounder and a pretty solid veteran playing close to veterans minimum(Lassiter).

Hmm... Is it possible that part of the decision to cut McNeil was based on his cap number and his declining role in a young improving secondary??

Again, I'm not saying he's "the solution" at CB, but I just have a hard time believing that he wouldn't help our seceondary as the nickel- or dimeback.

Obviously, you've never read one of my posts concerning Blake. Two seasons ago is an eternity in the NFL.Didn't Boston have 1500+ yards 2 seasons ago? Salary is a factor, but if you can play to the level of your salary(or still have alot of potential),you won't be cut. They may try to re-structure the contract but they rarely just cut a player based on salary alone.
