Kerry Rhodes

There are your safeties currently on the roster. Justin Bethel is a ST guy looking for a position.

The team is looking to re-sign Rashad Johnson whom improved last year, yet he has yet to be a full time starting safety. Johnson showed he can play last year, but is he good enough to be a starter ?

Where does this leave the Cardinals.

I can see Chris Clemons in our future. Todd Bowles guy from the Dolphins who is a free agent. The Dolphins are trying to re-sign him, but nothing has been heard yet.

We will see.

With Wilson being cut I believe they are close to resigning Rashad Johnson and he will be the starter this year.

There will be quite a few good safeties hitting the free agent market, which really starts tomorrow. Perhaps, they are planning to go after an unrestricted free agent safety pretty quickly?

Safety was a need before we even cut Wilson.

With Adrian Wilson's release, Cardinals in talks with Rashad Johnson. Would surprise if they let him get to FA. He'll be coveted if they do

I would expect that they will draft a safety somewhere in the draft as well.

This is essentially what we drafted Rashard Johnson to be, but I find it kind of weird after his mediocre performances until last year that he's our great big hope at the spot. I hope he continues to improve.

AW was barely good his first few years and there were fans calling him a wasted pick.

Guilty.

I wanted him gone in the worst way after his 3rd year.

Yet, in my defense even Wilson himself said that he needed a reality check after his 3rd year.

Yet from his 4th year on he became the man-beast we all know him as.

Sidenote: As it was stated on another thread, kinda hard watching this organization cut Wilson with Kolb still on the roster.

According to Evan Silva, here are your top FA safeties:

@evansilva: Top FA safeties: 1) Dashon Goldson 2) Ed Reed 3) William Moore 4) Lou Delmas 5) Glover Quin 6) Kenny Phillips 7) LaRon Landry 8) Pat Chung

Yes...this was posted after AW was cut. Kenny Phillips would be a nice addition as long as he doesn't ask for too much and rashad isn't re-signed.

A Small Dose of Polly-Anna...

If the Cards felt they would be strapped at safety, it wouldn't have made sense to cut A-Dub in first place.

It's the Cardinal way: one step forward, two steps back. They should of at least re-signed Johnson prior to cutting AW. With no other safeties on the roster, they lose all the leverage in any negotiation. Like always, we end up looking desparate and will probably end up overpaying a mediocre player because of need.

I'd be really interested in LaRon Landry. I think his brother got released today as well. Wouldn't mind bringing them both in.

For all we know, a deal could already be in place and they're finalizing the parameters. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.

That's true (I did think about that), but it seems like every year the Cardinals create more holes prior to the draft than they do filling the holes through re-signing or free agency.

Take it for what it is worth, but Urban tweeted today that Kolb will not be on the roster under his current deal.

Using logic and reasoning in Cardinal personell affiars....that's dangerous Gollin.

Seems strange the broom is being applied to the defense which was the team's strong point. BA was brought in to sort out the offense. All we've seen so far is cutting defense players while the incompetent offense guys are still around. Doesn't look very promising to me.

We don't know the state of negotiations with Johnson or anyone else.

Dangerous Gollin would be yours truly in charge of the entire roster and personnel budget. You have no idea (Yoo-Hah-Hah-Hah)!

AW was barely good his first few years and there were fans calling him a wasted pick.

Only fans who are idiots and still mourning the departure of overrated Pat Tillman. ADub was a premier athlete who needed to learn the nuances of the safety position while being saddled with one of the worst coaching staffs in NFL history.

ADub made highlight plays in those first few years, but would also consistently make mind-bogglingly bad decisions.

This is essentially what we drafted Rashard Johnson to be, but I find it kind of weird after his mediocre performances until last year that he's our great big hope at the spot. I hope he continues to improve.

We actually drafted Rashard Johnson to play free safety and replace Antrel Rolle, but Johnson was so terrible as a rookie that we had to use the pick we got for Anquan Boldin to trade for a much more highly paid player in Kerry Rhodes.

Johnson continued to be a non-entity until his (wait for it) contract year, when he suddenly showed a pulse and suggested, in limited action in rotation with another veteran, that he could, eventually, develop into a mediocre starting free safety who never makes plays.

The difference between Rashard Johnson and ADub is that when ADub was drafted he had elite physical ability but very little skill. The report on Johnson was that his enormous skill set made up for his more modest physical skills.

Those diagnostic and reaction abilities never materialized, and now we're stuck begging for a thoroughly adequate safety to come back.

He's got pretty good ball skills. Morre and for me especially Delmas are intriguing as well. If he could stay healthy he can play. Maybe he's figured out what he needs to do to stay out there. If so, he'd be a great target.
